Have people found a way of training skills quickly ?
I read in these forums of people in cruisers using piranha 5 missiles and MWD, Surely if they started May 6 2003, they haven't had enough days to not only make the isk to buy the skills but to train them? I calculate at least 2 x Lvl 5 and 2 x Lvl 4 skills just to use the missiles, without all the other weapons and skills that are boasted about.
Is this fair ?

You sure those bugged Piranha V missles required Lv5 skill?
I'm not sure about that. I believe they had the same skill reqs as Piranha I. (It's a different thing than how Iteron Mk I/II/III/IV/V change in skill reqs.) ---------------- Blue Screen of Death CEO Exodus Enterprises |

I got an MWD + skill
And no, I've used no exploits
I did increse my attribs to 14-12-10-12-10 or something similar, which helps a lot.
MWD only needs Afterburner 4 (rank1) and High speed maneuv. (rank4-5).
total cost 350k + 4 days (roughly (I'm at work, and tired))

What does worry me though, is people who claim to have 18 intel. Even with level 5 stats, this has to be impossible. I haven't been able to create a character that starts with 13 intel.
Maybe I'm wrong. who knows. .

Minmatar (Sebiestor): Tinkers: 11-6-5-6-6
see one thread down
with the 5 skill points to add in char creation,
Int can be 14 at creation time

I personally know ppl that have been getting level 4 and level 5 of several skills for free. This seems to happen when some skill (not nessecerily the one they get) goes to the completion imminent stage.

alien8 a while back i was able to jump a skill rank thanks to the skill iminate bug. but even though i tryed my hardest i could never reproduce it. (back in beta btw) you guys also seem to forget the high holy grail of learning skills. Learning. ------------------------------------------------ nomad, vagabond, call me what you will. |

From the couple of times I have checked, each tick of primary skill shaves about 20 min off training time. That's not enough to be sure though, just a cursory check.
As for stats, my primary is currently:
Int, Per, Cha, Wil, Mem 18, 9, 7, 9, 10
and will be
Int, Per, Cha, Wil, Mem 20, 11, 11, 11, 12
before any implants/augments after LV5 in each learning skill is reached.
Minmatar Tinkerer is the way to go if you want a pure intelligence char. Hybrids always seem to be substandard in MMORPGs. If you're going to be good at something, be the best.

If a tinkerer at creation has 14 Int. at creation and you say you can obtain 20 then you have a common bug that has allowed you to skip up one level.
Not sure where and when or how it happens but it has happened and has been posted about. Some skip from 9 to 11 some skip higher up but it is happening.
Not sure if its just another visual thing or it actually works as a learned attribute.
Maybe you can start higher then 14 and this doesn't apply to your case but it is still happening.

I think it's just a display bug, just check if the time of training a new skill correspond with the shown stat or what the stat should actually be... i think it's the latter!
Just like in beta, stats showed as all 0 but were still working fine...

Skill training time is directly related to primary and secondary attribute stats. 2 points in secondary has the same effect as 1 point primary, and it's a % effect, non-linear. Therefor, the effect of going from 6->7 is far more than 10->11. I have the formula for our corp guildies based on 100 points sample data and regression analysis. The formula used in the skill calculation on eve-i.com is slightly inaccurate (about 1-2%)

there was a skill exploit at the start of the release of eve. there were people that were bragging on exploiting the skills!
ccp was supposed to have handled it! (it is gone, if u have ever seen the message where u have to wait for a minute, your brain is tired)
ccp was supposed to have known who was abusing this the worst and were going to deal with them, but i never heard anything about it again, even after asking customer service & in several posts!
so hush-hush - if u don't ever mention it again the problem will go away and no-one will ever know! ;)

Nice one Lee, so if the guys driving the battleships on day two play nicely we'll have no more said of it...lol
Oh well, I suppose if you used the exploit just a 'little' bit thats ok ;)

well scrimnet, i think some used it accidently and some might have used it out of concern or pressure to keep up with other eve players.
when i sent in questions to support, etc. - i mentioned this and was getting concerned that i might have to learn & use this exploit also!
i don't like exploits or exploiters, they cheat the game, cheat other players, and cheat themselves of game play. i never use cheats or codes in a game, unless it's just absolutely necessary in order to keep pace. ;)

I have about 730k skill points now, corp friend has 530k. He started at release, I started a week later.
He hasn't done learning skills, I'm just about at 4 on all of them and I didn't realise until I was 3 weeks into game.
The poeple who did nothing but bring learning skills to 4+ in the first week will be miles in front now I would think

I'm not suprised about some people having the BB skill. If all they do is concentrate on the skills needed for BB that just means they don't have good combat skills. A pilot with excelent combat skills in a crusier could more then likly take out that BB.
Mad Dog says: Bet I'm the only true Reverend in the game. It says so on the printout I got from an Internet site. |

Dream - it has been said a few times on the old forum but I'll give you a breakdown:
If you start your character to be a pilot, you can start with frigate at level 4. This enables you to immediately start cruiser training. Effectively, you could pilot a lvl 1 Cruiser about 3 hours after handing over your $50, and a lvl 3 cruiser in 2 days (or so).
Battleship would take lvl 4 cruiser (i think) which will take about a week. Then you can do battleship lvl 1, which would take around 3 hours.
There you go, battleship in two weeks.
Of course, your skills in other stuff will be total toss, but that can be dealt with.
The only real obstacle to learning to fly a BS is the money to buy the skills. .

Just call me Mad Dog"
If you simply focus your character on good attributes needed for combat/spaceship training then it is easy to accomplish Battleship skill AND have good combat skills.
I have 18 willpower and 14 perception.
- ALL learning skills at 3, Iron Will and Instant Recall at 4 - MWD trained - Cruise Missiles trained - Caldari Battleship trained - Gunnery 5 completes in 3 days - ALL gunnery skills that you can buy trained to at least level 3 - ALL shield/energy skills useful for combat trained to at least level 2
This would require some smart training from start (training the long skills at night so your character is CONSTANTLY training). I got the retail version 1 week after launch.

I can't name them all, here is the formula:
Rightslick/info on a skill. It will show the primary skill, and secondary.
the primary needs to be high.
Without going into technical details, that's about all I can give you.
As for remaking yuor character, I don't know, it depends how you creted him, and what you want to do with him now.
If you are going to take this rather extreme route, then just create a new character slot, and leave your current one as it is, it might come in useful some time. .

The Attribute to skill formula is:
(Primary + (Secondary/2))=Skill Points Per Minute
This is of course adjusted by the Learning Skill Percentage bonus, if any.

If you have any more questions after reading that, feel free to ask them. Good luck.
