As I said, were going to be headed out there late summer (after I do all sorts of summer school stuff so I can graduate). So ill put Warrick Castle on things too look into, seeing as I do enjoy medieval era in general.

There's only one place to eat in London: Brick Lane. Be sure to hit the west end too though, as there's plenty to do there - least of all the theatres.
You can get to most major cities by train without much difficulty, though transport links outwith the rail network are in my opinion pretty poor. What is worth noting of course is that from London, one can take a train to Brussels or Paris in around two hours - if it's your first trip to Europe, this is definitely worth a thought. The former is just a few hours from Amsterdam too, which for more than the obvious reasons is well worth the visit.
You'll notice I've pretty much avoided talking about the UK, and that's simply because I don't know where to start: are you simply looking for a whistlestop tour of modern Britain? A history lesson? More details please! Hardpoint Rigs |

The Lake and Peak Districts are in Northern England - very nice picturesque scenery, but in the middle of summer VERY crowded, especially the Lakes.
One area not mentioned so far is the Southwest - Cornwall, Devon and Somerset. Somerset in particular is probably the most rural county of England, the weather is nicer down there, and there is some impressive scenery like Cheddar Gorge - yes, the place where the cheese comes from!
In that area, though, be very careful with the local cider.

Im 16, but going to be just shy of 17 when we go on the trip(So no pub crawling). Dad is turning 60 tomorrow. We went to china last year and we (well I mostly) walked/ran/climed a part of the great wall (well not that much, I think I counted like 2000+ steps before I gave up, bought a water and started going back down). Hes not in the best of shape, but I can drag him along kicking and screaming if need be.

Drinking age in Britain is 18 fyi.... there is rarely one on the Continent afaik. Come to Edinburgh -most cultured place in Britain and top tourist destination after London - our population literaly doubles every summer when the world famous festivals are on.
Also, there's the slight language difference and taking the ****, friends that have gone to the states tell me this concept dosen't exist

So many places to visit in London that it will keep you occupied for a while at least: London Eye, Houses of Parliament, Buckinham Palace, Horseguards Parade, Natural History Museum, Tower of London etc etc. Try to get to see at least one of the West End shows, its an experience to say the least. Not just musicals but there are lots of comedys too. Check out the Comedy Store by Liverpool Street Station, a good laugh. I would highly recommend that you take a train journey to Paris or Brussels. Cheap, quick and both are equally beautiful cities. Bruge in Belgium is my favourite, a very short distance from Brussels and well worth the visit. Only 16 nearly 17? As long as you dont look like an absolute baby that wont be a hindernace to drinking in the UK. Your American accent will automatically open the doors to many places and get you plenty of girl action. Just say you are 18, ooops forgoten me passport honest I 'ave guvnor, and you should be fine. There are not many places to go if you want the sea. Some of the lesser occupied beaches are the best looking though some of the South Coast resorts can be fine. Try to spend a day in Brighton to get the 'oldy worldy my god do the brits actually still have crap holidays like these' experience (Brighton is only 35 miles from london). Brighton though has a great nightlife. If you are determined to visit as much as the UK as possible, avoid most cities in England, head to Edinburgh in Scotland - very pretty city, the people are nice (if always drunk and hard to understand). In fact, most of Scotland is just pure class to look at. I would say Wales (as a proud Welshman), especially mid-wales for the spectacular scenary. The people are very welcoming once they realise that you are not english and not Liverpulian York is a beautiful city, very old, steeped in history. Norwich is quite nice except its a boring journey to get there. The Norfolk Broads is a great day out: hire a boat and look at scenary that will make you cry for its pure beauty. South West England is very nice, great beaches, adequate surfing. Bournmouth has a reputation for hot nights out, plenty of drunk teenage girls. Yank chat will certainly see you well there. Visit 'Lands End'. If you have a spare day, take a cheap flight to Ireland (fly from The City of London airport). My wife says Dublin is very nice, so do my kids. As I cant stand the Irish and i'll never step foot there, i'll take their word for it and recommend it to you.
The food is OK but unless you are willing to really fork out the cash its fairly bland and sameish. Avoid UK versions of American food like McD's, BK or KFC. We take the very best parts of these fast food chains, throw them away and add a British flavour to them. You will be made to feel very welcome by the vast majority of British people. As much as we sometimes get upset with you damn yankies, we love you to bits and will always take your side. EVERYONE loves an american accent here. You might get the odd nub in a pub try to lecture you on foreign policy (after they've had a few too many) but say you dont care and they'll drop the subject and ask you if you know anyone famous.
Have fun.

If you are a history buff then York is a must, you have everything there, Roman History, Viking History, you name it, it's there. Taking the OP's age, I'll guess he'll be of the Harry Potter generation, so if that 'rocks' your boat then visit The Shambles to do your holiday shopping, that's what Dygon Ally (SP?) is based on. Then get out further into Yorkshire to see some of the most beautifly scenery in the UK. If you are into things like trains, there is the North Yorkshire Historical Railway, another HP link.
Also, assuming you are landing at London and assuming that the OP is American. Stop off in Essex and visit one of the many US war cemetaries there. They are mainly filled with the remains of the young men of the USAF that never made it home. There is also a huge tribute to US Airmen at the Imperial War Musium anex at Duxford, well worth taking in, if only to realize what a big 'Mother' the B-52 is and how tiny a B-17 is in comparison

Originally by: Ararius So here I am, sitting on my computer not doing what im supposed to do. Planing a trip to the Britian for my and my dad. Okay well it's a little more complicated then that, but heres the lowdown.
My dad (for christmas) surprised me by telling me that he'd take me to London (and the rest of the Great Britain) during the end of summer. Now I've always wanted to go to Europe, and London specifically. But here I am, and I have no idea what to do, and where to go!
I mean I wanted to go to London, but I never had an idea where to go
So I leave you with this:
What places are must see, should see, and just stay away from in London, and the rest of it!
(Help me please )
London's a big place; you can find pretty much anything you like here.
One of the things I like finding here are large gatherings of friendly people in underused buildings, all set to music.

Originally by: Menkaure Meh, London's nice but the country does have a few other places that're worth the visit. Like York for example.... bloody gorgeous city. I wouldn't confine yourself just to the capital.
Gordon Ramsay leads me to understand you can't get good Yorkie Pud in Yorkshire. Is this true? My sister makes spank-ass Yorkie. 'Taint that hard.
Ramsay's a bloody liar, then.
You can in fact get extremely good food in Britain. But you can't rely on it... best thing is to ask locals (just like anywhere in the world, I suppose).
For instance, just after xmas I spent a few days in a tiny little fishing village a few miles south of Midd*****rough. That sounds like the last place in the galaxy you might expect really good food, but there's a little resteraunt there that is fantastic. (When I say "little" I mean there's about 6-7 tables). ú150 for 4, including 3 bottles of wine.... not "cheap" but not outrageous, considering we all had 3 courses and went away *very* full.
http://www.endeavour-restaurant.co.uk/
There are thousands of places like this in the UK, but they don't tend to have big flashy signs or advertise much.
Conversely, there are many more places where you can get absolutely dire food. Avoid anything that looks like it's a chain. Places that look deliberately twee and olde worlde are almost invariably awful. Avoid anything that looks like it's a chain. Avoid anything that looks like it's a chain. Avoid anything that looks like it's a chain.
Oh, one final piece of advice: Avoid anything that looks like it's a chain.

science museum is brill (and free) natrual history museum is slightly boring but still brill (and free). but i'd imagine you'll get hustled into there by the tourist information types.
go to camden market if its a nice day, and make sure you explore all the random weird little shops. thats always good for killing a few hours, or buying a funny-looking hat by mistake.
West Country is worth a look. Bath is a nice little place. Bristol is less pretty, but has a helluva lot more going on.
Then there are quaint little random tourist venues like wookey hole caves and cheddar gorge which have a kind of naive charm about them. In the states i think they'd barely merit a highway-side "Worlds largest ball of string 2 miles ahead" type mention, but they're all we've got.
swindon is a ******* dump though.

Never do a Bill Bryson - taking your entire family in the wet and terrible weather to Newquay for photos and postcards because you think it is pronounced "nooky". However - read his "A Notes from a Small Island" before you come, brilliant it is and gets the culture framed perfectly.

For the love of god get out of ******* england
The UK has wales scotland and northern ireland as well.
In all seriousness see london for 3/4 days then **** off to edinburgh,
an hours flight and you can be in belfast, go in the morning spend the day (dont need anymore) next morning get a bus/train to dublin (2 hours) and see some of ireland you have a chance to experience some of the richest culture and history in the world do not confine yourself to london (and england)
after that go to cardiff.
but also you wont see everything, use this as a chance to get a taste of what the UK can offer
there is no reason you cant see all those cities, or if you want a more sedate journey stick to england and scotland but make sure you see the country and not just cities.
nothing like going to loch ness or john o groats etc
