Ok i see all these posts about nanoships...what the heck are nanoships? I can't seem to find any info about what they are, yet everyone talks about them. I am a bit behind the times on this stuff obviously.

They really should all be called Speed tanked ships
HAC's Recon's, and other ships that are fitted for speed and manueverability. They generally have overdrives, nanofibers (this is where the moniker came from), and i-stabs, Polycarbon rigs etc. Anything that can be used to reduce mass, inertia while increasing speed.
They are an effective ship at speed but tankless and very squishy when stopped.

They are ships that take advantage of a broken mechanic. Speed. But hopefully CCP will nerf Polycarbons and hacs soon.

And in doing so make alot of hacs (like the ishtar) crap to PvP in.

OP, don't listen to this moron he has no idea what he is talking about, can't be bothered to LEARN how to PVP. Speed is a good aspect of this game that doesn't need any more tinkering or nerfing.

Speed is not a broken mechanic. Taking it away limits available ship defenses to two: shield or armor tanking, and further limits the diversity of viable ship fittings.

In pvp all ships fit a micro-warpdrive. The funny thing about that is that it doesn't really function as a micro-warpdrive. It functions more like a super-afterburner. As soon as you click on that module it should align your ship and warp you from A to B in a straight line, and your targets should come off. Personally, I think the only ship that should be allowed to go that fast is a frigate class ship.

Where's the rest of the Amarr whine brigade? Isn't it time to make another ****post about how terrible Amarr are and how all the other races need to be nerfed to compensate?

Well then I guess it's a good thing you aren't in charge, else we'd only be able to fit ships for approach, F1-F8, tank and gank-type PvP.

Would utterly kill PvP, because what is stopping you from, well, warping off when someone is MWD-ing towards you and loses target lock?

A few people have given you an idea of what nanoships are.
Speed tanking recons or hacs
Speed tanking WAS a problem when nanophoons were a viable option, a battleship in that role is too powerful, but hacs are fine.
Usually these ships can be nanoed: Ishtar Sacrilege Vagabond
They work well because their weapons can deal with firing at high speed and still hitting.
All of them have weaknesses though.
Oh, nano ships also usually fit shield extenders for an extra HP buffer tank.
Most whines about nano ships are from **** pilots or missle spewing noobs ( the ONLY thing missles cant hit is very fast ships, unlike guns that have falloff/tracking, so Q_Q more for easy mode )
The speed of nano ships means nano pilots can take on large groups of hostiles and still escape sometimes, depending on the composition of the enemy, they have very weak tanks if webbed and rely on their cap and speed entirely.

Thats right a ship that can negate a whole race's damage output is working as intended. _________________________________________________

Well, actually:
(a) Yes, they're working as intended. (b) Anything that outranges you invalidates your damage output anyway; if you can keep a blasterboat at 20km range, you invalidated his damage output, how is that fair, boo hoo? (c) Since the most common nano-ship (Vagabond) both cannot perma-MWD and cannot hit reliably while MWD-ing, it doesn't in fact negate missiles at all. (d) It doesn't negate your damage if you're flying a BS or something. Use a Heavy Neutraliser. (e) There are caldari gunboats which share the problems gallente gunboats have when fighting nano-ships; only they've got a better chance to hit them due to optimal bonus. The fact that most caldari gunboats suck (Moa, Ferox) is a different thing altogether.

Which race would that be?
In case you havent noticed yet, the caldari dont just have missles, they also have hybrids with range bonus's, these ships need work from CCP as they fail currently but the range bonus's make them good against nano ships becaaaaause they cant just run out of range and come back in when in a gang vs gang fight.
Amarr *****nano ships with pulse lasers and tanking, minmitar are speedy and have webby recons/frigs/fasssst ceptors
Gallente have neuts/web drones
So basically... its just ravens/drakes that suck against nano ships?

Here the nano-brigade comes again and says that nano-ships are fine. The problem is not nano-ships but pirate implants that increase speed to absurd levels. If CCP nerfs nano-ships many pilots will suffer because their tactics will be taken away, but if CCP will nerf pirate implants (not just snakes) it will not have any influence on the majority of the pilots. Of course we'll hear whines from those that are used to buy uberness with ISK.
My opinion is that ISK should not allow you to make an unstoppable pwnmobile out of HAC or BS or interceptor. There should be a reasonable limit to how much you can squeeze out of the ship no matter how much ISK you throw at it. HACs going at 15 km/s are just as wrong as would be wrong a frigate that would cost 3 bill, but would be able to fly at 40 km/s, deal 400 dps and have 95/95/95/95 resistances.

I tend to agree that boosters/pirate imps are the problem. Also itd be nice to get some kind of module that has nanofiber's old stats but you can only fit one of them, for all of us who'd like a little extra speed and agility but dont want to go all out. Call it Agility Diagnostic Unit maybe, since it would basically be PDU for speed rather than cap. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

yeah I don't see why everyone's ZOMG NANO NERF.
Yesterday a gang I was in went out with a vaga (fast one, too) and a couple of others.
A Mymadon (well 2) took it out along with a stealth bomber and another ship. Only 1 member of our gang survived . I was in a crow (they're designed to go fast) and was the only survivor (due to not being primary).
Nano ships are EASILY killed. They don't need a nerf.

Thats not how the CCP nerf wagon works...
1 day they will wake up, have a completely random idea about how to nerf speed tanks and then implement it without thinking about the consequences
The nerf wont affect implants, too much hard work, more likely it will just be a smiting to hacs base speed or something ingenious like that.

Actually, at the fanfest, speed WAS a broken mechanic. They never intended for 10k/ms Domis etc that we say prior to first speed nerf.
Now nanoships gain 99.99% resist to all missiles when hitting MWD. THis is a broken mechanic in the same way the 10k/ms domi was a broken mechanic

Speed still has the same effect as it had then.
Im happy my huginn can fit 4x heavy nos.
Im happy that polycarbons still give boost to mwd.
Im happy that nanofibers still give boost to multiple effects instead of 1.
Oh wait?

Well sort of but the only reason to use the expression is to indicate that a particular ship is nano or speed tanked instead of fitted with a standard non-speed tank.
eg. nano-ishtar nano-sac nano-drake
If a ship is fast with a standard fitting then it will be referred to by ship name alone.
eg. vagabond. interceptors.

Funny, I did not cross a single nano-bs since the nanofiber/od/istab stacking nerf, except the odd Machariel (1200 Machs ingame vs 5 million ships, wow, what an issue...).
So what about you spending 1% of the time you're congenitally whining on forums against nanoships by playing the game instead to learn how to pwn these nanosetups ?
Yeah... I was forgetting: you would first have to get a brain and second have the will to use it...

OP dont listen to the pansy's who cry nurf all the time
NANO = speed tank I.E. vaga/ nano ishtur / sabre / B4 it was over power as BS clas were doing 6k+ ( nano phoon/domi )but got nurfed to hell and bck coz carbare pansy's couldnt learn to fly webbing ship's I.E huggin's/ Rapier's
speed tank is essential to EvE pvp add's variaty and much needed tactics to a game that is slowly but surely going stale
its like any other tank
EW tank I.E Rook/ Bomber / Falcon / Kitsune ( gallante EW damp's have been nurfed to much )
armor /shield tank = normaly slower ship that u use as bait I.E Nighthawk/ Drake / Astarte/ and so on
then speed tank I.E vaga/ nano ishtur/ even a hurricane can move when fitted right but in my eye's a real spped tank has to b over 5-6k ms as to make missile's/drone's unable to catch u
put all these into a roaming pvp gang and ull have
EW/TANK/Speed
these 3 eliment's make a roaming gang
there are other tank's like gang suport remote reping were bs keep each other alive reping each other drone for dps and some light ew speed gank suport
but all r essential to keeping EvE from going stale fleet sniper/dictor/supercap pvp
