Black ops battle ships are practically worthless cloaked, even with lvl 4 you wont make over 275ish m/s cloaked and personally whats the point? I can stick a cloak on a dominix now and do everything the same besides jump.... Not to mention covert cyno is nice and all to jump into, but if I have to warp into the fight and be seen well I guess cloaking is out of the question then isent it? Please CCP even if we cant warp cloaked remove the improved cloaks speed nerf for Black Ops BSs. Barqs-

I support cover cloaks on black ops, as they are far to vulnerable in their current state, not like they will instantly become solo-wtf mobiles

I already see the Widow as a Raven+Falcon all in one, yet it really would be with that cloak fitted. Widow is the only ship that really has potential out of all the black ops ships anyway. _______________________________ [ 2007.06.07 21:07:22 ] FrankyWave > ransom me guys I am joining XElas !!! |

In order to be worth the extra pricetag they could really do with the covops cloak indeed. Perhaps add a decloak-lock penalty though.

Although I'd love to see covert ops cloaks on black ops it would make them overpowered unless they ended up with paper tanks like the covert ops frig and recons, and that would be bad.
Black ops are in the same vien as stealth bombers & combat recons. The one problem they really have is lock time with a cloak fitted.
There should be a removal or reduction of the sensor resolution penalty when fitting a cloak.
The loss of a rig slot compared to tech I bs pretty much cancels out the advantage of slightly better resists they dont need to pay lock time penalty as well for fitting a cloak as they are supposed to make advantage of the module.

a) Fly a covert ops cloaked ship and you have near 100% control over who you engage in combat. b) Fly a small group of BS with substantial tank and firepower and you can wtfpwn 99% of the ships out there if they are solo or in a smaller group.
So with a coverted Black ops gang you would have the ability to wtfpwn solo or smaller groups you come across and 100% avoid conflict with larger formations.
Thats why it would be overpowered. Everyone would train to them and then there'd be no more conflict as we'd all be cloaked all the time and would never see each other

Hi2U Nano-gangs? Hi2U prototype cloaks?

like the fotm nano-setups?
Lets see:
Normal Battleship, lets take a Scorpion versus the Widow:
Stat_____Scorpion____________Widow
Mass: 115,000,000kg versus 161,000,000kg Inertia: 0.135 versus 0.08
Structure: 5469 versus 4375 Armor: 5469 versus 4375 Shield: 6641 versus 5312 Armor Thermal Resists: 45% versus 55% Shield Thermal Resists: 20% versus 30% Max Targeting Range: 90km versus 72km Max Velocity: 115 versus 126
COST: 57 mill versus 650 mill
So, lets see, in a nutshell, for 600 million more ISK than the T1 battleship, you will
1) Move slower 2) Align + warp slower 3) Have less targeting range 4) Have less structure 5) Have less armor 6) Have less shield 7) Have 10% more thermal resists \o/ ? 8) Not have the speed reduction when using a cloak 9) Still have the scan resolution penalty 10) Can use it to jumpbridge other recons, because they would have a problem with going through gatecamps, for obvious reasons.

sure the price tag crys for covop cloak... but if not this (for the reasons stated above) give us at least lower fuel usage and make jump more then 4 ly possible, thats the real problem not the cloak.

I see, this would make this 700mill ship quite good, instead of useless, and a same-size conventinal bs gang would still have more firepower and tank, but be unable to engage the covert bs gang... ( I see the everyone cloaked issue... :p)
So not broken, just useful, maybe too useful?

Edited by: Loedem on 11/01/2008 21:00:53 To me the ability to fit covert ops is trivial to how limited this ship is in jump range. There are simply a lot of systems that you'll never be able to drop into because of the 4ly limitation.
Although that being said, I also really believe Black Ops are pre-nerfed with the potential to be boosted (as opposed to overpowered with the potential to be nerfed). I am willing to bet that this ship will eventually get some nice compensations (just like covops, stealthbombers, and um rooks received earlier last year)
Well here's hoping atleast...holding on to my pricey station ship for the timebeing

Cov-ops cloak would greatly overpower these ships. The Widow is great for fleet support, due its to DPS and EW. The rest are only useful for using the jump bridge to keep EW on standby for instant jump in. The only way to solo with these ships now is to sit in a belt or on a gate and wait for a target to come to you. Covert-ops cloaks would make these ships the preferred combat ships, which these were not meant to be. I agree w/ removing the pently in sig rez due to cloaks and reducing the cost of the jump drive requirments.

Well, both in a 0.0 and low-sec environments, it is still a slow and sluggish battleship, and at the cost of this thing it should have certain boons.

We need new viable tactics rather more classic afk cloakers.
Jumping a gang of 3-4 people 3jumps away (in effect avoiding the rows of altscouts) is a new tactic. Sitting in a covops bs ganking people when your scout says it's ok is not.
If I were a dev, nothing would have a damn covops cloak apart from covops. They have made the game even more booooring.

We will see after the promised price reduction if they are worth the isk or not, currently i really want to train for one, but i feel the cost is not justified at all.

For a half billion ISK ship Id agree - it should be able to warp cloaked using a cov ops cloaking device.
CCP have said they dont want Carriers to be the 'end game' ship - strikes me that Black Ops ships that can use a cov cloak II are the perfect example of an alternative.

If you don't see why a cov ops cloak on this thing would be grossly overpowered, you need to stop bothering us on the forums who have whole brains and go back to drueling in the corner with the other lobotomy patients.
They should however, drop the scan res and sensor recal penalties on the cloak if they don't already... the way bombers do. And 4 ly can be stretched to 8 with skills, which is a pretty good distance, but I don't see any reason for it to not have at least the range of a mothership.
Oh, and when was the last time you put a cloak on a domi? Try doing ANYTHING but wait when your top speed is only 25 m/s.

Drueling is actually spelt "drooling".....
Its max range is 4 au with skills.....
I see T1 BS pilots with cloaks fitted all the time, they're called isk farmers......
A black ops BS doesn't have an enormous cargo bay to hold all the fuel for an 8ly jump like a mothership........ its also not a mothership........
/me goes back to drooling into his keyboard
EDIT - they should drop the recalibration delay. Every cloud...

I fly Black ops in fleets and small gangs. The redeemer I fly has lower DPS than any of the T1 ships in the fleet. Its sole Saviour being the speed it travels cloaked and the speed of activation of modules. There are so many flaws in its make up I'm really thinking of just fitting apocs up for pvping. Jump rang to small. cargo hold to small. Low dps count. Non covert ops cloak fitted.
Hmm wonder if I have my receipt for it I could maybe exchange it for a Pilgrim.

The way I see it as I stated origionally, id even be willing to let it only use cruise if we could use cov ops cloak.... But in reality its tank isent that great the EW is good... But so is a scorp for 1/8th the price and the DMG is nice but when your that close to use torps that crap tank folds fast. And yes they would be awsome in a fleet!!!! I mean I can have 1 widow jamming insted of 8 scorps! And loose all my EW in 1 shot! Barqs-
