I would say that anyone who has a small amount of ISK should say so, this way I can indicate as such on the list. That way they don't have people contacting them about loans for far more than they can handle.
I really don't think loaners under 1B should be listed personally. But we'll discuss it if someone with a small amount of isk really wants to be listed.

Nice idea, i probably won't use it myself though. If someone is getting a smalltime loan, chances are they are trying to grow bigger, which means a larger investment need down the track for most.
In order to get this larger investment you usually require people vouching for you and proof of previous dealings. While a private loan does achieve this to some extent i think it is a more effective option to use multiple smaller isk amount investors, publicly, to achieve this goal.
Of course for people without the isk retar-dation alot of us small-frys have, private loans are a better and much simpler way to go.

Quick correction to the OP.
Fury Banker is the character to contact/mail about loans from Fury Bank not this character. This character is only logged into in-game a few times per week - he typically runs long-duration research/manufacturing jobs.

I have only recently used contracts to give a loan to a corp member. What are peoples thoughts on using this CCP provided mechanic to give loans out? And what are the consequences of giving out a loan this way and a person not paying it back?

Using the in-game system is basically reserved for scammers. It's a near worthless system unless you 100% trust each other.

There is nothing wrong with the in-game loan system, as long as you understand what the loans actually mean.
There is a guy (can't remember his name) on the sell order forum who loans out his obelisk for 4mill a day using a loan contract to take the colateral and payment etc. You get the picture.
There is nothing wrong with them if used between HONEST people who understand them.

It works as intended and is secure, only the interface is not very well described so it is relatively easy to confuse victim into accepting non-sense Loan contract. I think CCP mostly designed it for item loaning and for this it works well (for freighter renting for example).

As the last few replies have made very clear, the interface for loan contracts sucks. It is quite confusing and is really not used. Sure, you can find an example or two of someone actually using it in a legit fashion. For each valid example you'll find 10+ scams. The same goes for WTB contracts.

It would be really cool if someone made a sticky linking all of the threads listing useful services, not just this one. Loans, banks, high sec hauling, low sec hauling and stock exchanges all come to mind.

For the time being I currently have a thread stickied over on the sell forums. If you would like to have the banks advertised there as well please let me know as I now have a Lending section setup with EBank already listed. Now I have kept my eye on MD for a while and have not really said too much though. I will gladly add any Banks and Lenders which those of a better forum status would trust.
IE EBank, BMBE, etc.

I think basically everyone here would trust BMBE/EBank/FuryBank for getting a loan. ISKNU/Leowen are not as well known here but I have a feeling both are trustworthy... but I personally feel the first three are considered more trustworthy by the general public here.

Having been a BIG'un for several years, BIG is still widely known as one of the most trustworthy Corporations in the cluster.
I have been a trusted acquaintance of folks like Ray McCormack, Sara Dawn, and Eefrit.
My alts are currently part of a group called New Genesis Project. It consists of some core members from BIG that decided to focus their efforts to benefit a smaller group of tight-knit friends well over a year ago.
