With all the new players joining eve in the last few weeks, and the prospective flood of Enb players heading this way, isn't it time CCP looked at the respawn rates of belts and even the ore distribution. What thoughts on the subject are out there No trolling or flaming please |

I'm not sure ores need to be redistrubuted. You can find any ore you need, you just have to look further than the center part of the map. When I started people were complaining about not finding Kernite and Omber. Within 5 or 10 jumps outside of central space (in .5 and up sec status) I found both ores in abundance. |

They should atleast respawn some of the roids in the starting systems a bit. _______________

All i know is a few of our new players have asked how they are supposed to mine since their seems to be no ore.
When they are 3 days old, going to 0.4 space isnt the best idea.
Of course, increasing the respawn probably wont help, just see more apocs in 1.0 space...

It is kind of insane now ...
I played eve at release, accumulated roughly 3.5 mil skill points, and a megathron then gave my account away.
3 days ago i created a new account (Minmatar char with astrogeology) specifically to mine with. I joined the same corp, which the members are of course helping me out, but...
Dam, all the ore is gone ! How the hell (without corp help) would i be able to haul any amount of ore with my probe - 5 jumps for scordite ? omfg yikes ! It used to be jump to a belt - fill cargo - dock, repeat, and that took along time to afford cruiser !
I can't even begin to imagine how long it would take a complete n00b to do this now ! For the love of god please feel free to turn off the ore spawns AFTER player structures are released, not before !
I'm beginning to realize that perhaps agent missions are the only viable starting route for a n00b - and having done over 300 missions (before i quit) *shudder* i'm not sure i could take that again !
Am i missing something ?

I myself am a new player and have noticed an abundance of haulers in 1.0 space and .9 space, and though i don't mine in 1.0 space, i have trouble finding buyers for minerals out in some of the less populated systems. Though i have found the game not too hard to play, and within the first day i've purchased a new frigate with a larger cargo hold (would have gotten it much earlier, but didn't check my skills before blowing 20k on mining drones)
Pretty much, you can find ore in them soon after the scheduled downtime, but later in the day, everyone needs to move further out, though i realize a majority of you have people to guard the haulers or you can handle the .5 and up rats.

Do what we do in pator tech shool, and organise group mining trips to lower security space. It only takes 1 or perhaps 2 people with rifter's to guard a newbie mining gang in 0.5 space, and with the recent change in security ratings, some 0.5's have appeared that are full of ore. Finding a system that has stations buying omber at a good price is not as easy, but one of the older players who wants some ore could place a sell order in the system you choose. Its not an ideal solution, but it helps build a stronger community, and gives the newbies a hand.

6 months ago you were lucky to get 4,000 players online.. we are now hitting 8,000 online...
So with this in mind maybe the roid spawn rate should be doubled... especialy in high sec systems...

You may see the cup as half full, others may see it as half empty... Me... I know the cup is twice as big as it needs to be!!! |

AFIK the reswapn rate wont be inreased untill the high sec. stripmining problem has been sorted out, and then the rates shouldn't need to be put up.

The roid respawn rate definately needs increasing. Empire space and mining are dull enough without having to spend half your gaming time looking for a decent system with any good sized rocks left in it. This will become gradually worse as all the n00bs progress out of 0.8 + and move into the 0.5 and below systems. |

Many, many moons ago... there was dev. information somewhere that described how the total minerals in EVE was proportional to the number of players. Remove minerals from the system (by blowing up a battleship, for example), and they return as minerals. Each new subscription adds to the total pot of minerals.
So it happens automatically. Maybe slower than you would like... but it's happening. I would expect them to tweak Empire respawn when the cans start to drift.
Of course... this may all have changed. --------------=o0O+O0o=-------------- CEO, Grand Pasha and Mighty One Hazara Khan's Haphazard Bazaar The Finest Camels in all EVE! O0o=------------------+------------------=o0O |

New players already face an insurmountable skillpoint deficit. I encourage the developers to give them an encouraging hand by, at the very least, repopulating the starting systems with fresh asteroids while at the same time preventing any ship with more than four turrets from activating mining lasers in 0.8 to 1.0 systems. This will prevent the superior mining ships (Thorax and above) from causing the same problem that we see in those systems now. ---

I hate to say this but anyone who has played for more than 4 months will remember that before ccp altered the roid regrowth there was never ever this problem with ore. But since the new system has been in place I did a test in a 0.5 system. me and 2 mates completely stripped one belt of ore (took 3 days mind). Two weeks later, was the belt full again? NO. it had hardly respawned at all. THIS IS THE PROBLEM NOT BS MINING. CCP should seriously address the respawn regrowth problem that exists or in a few weeks time there will be no belts left down to 0.4.
I do however agree that some system should be created in 1.0 and 0.9 systems to ensure that new players have some ore to mine. Stopping BS mining in any form however would ruin what little economy exists in eve. ----/ / /-----<[]>-----\ \ \---- Head of House Rahl Warleader of the Rahl Clans

It would be nice if there was a way to give new accounts access to a special belt in 1.0 systems that doesn't run out. But they only have access for a week or so, where they couldn't mine much in a n00b ship anyway, and it guarantees they have access to some mineral.
Also I think experienced players ie > 1 month or so should be prevented from mining in 1.0 some how. If it was possible to tag ore with where ore it is mined, then it could be taxed at a high rate. So if your account is > 1 month and your in 1.0 mining, you get taxed. If your account > 3 months you get taxed even more.
This would encourage players to leave 1.0 space for the n00bs and mine in 0.9 and lower. But it doesn't prevent them from mining in 1.0, just makes it less economically viable. This could even be applied all the way down to 0.1, where in 0.1 systems there is a very tiny tax on experienced players and no tax on anyone else. 0.5 would be a middle ground, with no tax on new players but increasing a an average tax on experienced players.

It must depend whereabouts you are..and perhaps by implication what race you are?
I started playing a month ago and found plenty of ore in my starter system. I joined Soldiers of Anarchy and there's plenty of ore in our .7 home system. Better yet there's plenty of ore in the neighbouring .8 system. Last night I (well..my computer ) spent three hours mining Pyro and Scordite.
I did notice though when I went to pick something up that one of the starter systems was almost completely devoid of roids. -- (Battle hardened miner)

I guess another option is that when a belt in a 1.0 system is emptied (well the majority of belts) they auto respawn, but each and every roid should be pretty small and spread out to make it pointless for experienced players to strip mine, but still useful enough for new players to make some money.

No, leave it the way it is, this should spark some much wanted conflicts over real issues.
What Klydor said, also a corporation could always go to a 1.0 system, tell them who has mined all the ore and offer them a chance to get back at this corporation by joining them, intel doesn't have to be true to have a shot at working.

Recently ive made an alt and have traveld around caldari start points finding them strip'd
but when i ask ppl in the start'er corp ppl say there all mining and are happy. ( B'coz they moved on )
there was no ore in the start system so they moved a few jumps used survey scanners on riods that they did find and mined them.
So with this that i had learned from ppl just joining the game i went to my hq and riod scanned every riod in the system, ( and book marked anything over 10k inside ) the next day after DT i went to those riods. half were mined and were not there.. the other half had grow not in Size but in Volume ( what was inside. ) it still looked the same size from the outside but it had now over 25k inside.
The respawn rate is slow in some systems and fast in other system's, all you have to do is Explore and Travel
( oh wait noone likes to do that in there big slow Ebil Apoc/Megathon ) To strip A 0.4 belt you need 5 ppl useing 5 thorax's anything more is over kill.
To those that have moaned about the riod spawn rate you need to step away from the battle ship mining.

Problem is caused by pro miners strip-mining entire systems. Here is a solution that would encourage / force these miners to move into lower sec systems, leaving more ore in high sec ones.
My most recent suggestion:
Ore Quality system Each ore type would be rated from +3 to -3. With -3 being the cheapest and +3 being the best ore. It could be displayed as a small number in the top-right corner of the ore stack.
Only ore of the same quality would stack, for many reasons.
Names could be: -3: useless: -75% refining yield -2: poor: -50% refining yield -1: below average: -25% refining yield 0: normal: just what you get now +1: above average: +15% +2: good: +30% +3: exceptional: +45%
Various types could provide additional mineral types in traces, like exeptional scordite providing some mexallon, or exceptional gneiss providing some mega.
Quality could be set for each roid individually on spawn, so you could have a field with 10 usless roids and one average one.
Now the catch: - Starter systems average quality ore, mining exclusive right of noobs under the penalty of death if you decide to ignore that rule. - high sec systems (1.0-0.5), useless to above average quality. 1.0-0.8 should be rather useless to mine in (at least in bulk quantities). The average value should be poor in these systems. 0.7-0.5 should give a wider variety of qualities, with an average of 'average quality' - low sec systems (0.4-0.1), should be a nice idea to mine out. They should provide a good ammount of average and above average roids. 'above average quality' on average - zero sec should definitely be the best ot mine in. With a possibility to get all kind or roids, still having an average of 'good quality'.
The above mentioned averages should be field average values. So having 10 exceptional veldspar roids and 10 usless scordite roids would still meet my definition of average belt. Just make them more varied.
Take a note, that balancing may require to limit the maximum available qualities and the distribution of high quality high end ores. This change should mainly affect low to mid range ores.
Any ideas?
The above system would indeed make miners move out into low sec, plus it would be a nerf not sounding as a nerf, but actually a balancing feature adding a nice variety to mining.
Edit 1: I dont even have time to list all the possibilities of a change like this. What about some useless quality arkanor in 0.1? just a few chunks... a more wider spread of ark troughout the galaxy, with some +1 roids in the systems where we have ark now, and a lot of -2 -3 roids in more common belts?
Edit 2: To prevent the forced growing of better quality ore, you could make it so, that if you leave a roid to grow, in time its quality will also increase, not just its quantity, so you cant keep all poor roids in a field to get a guaranteed exceptional one spawn next time.
------------- This post is nothing more than my personal opinion. It does not represent the official standpoint of Fountain Alliance, or the HUN Corporation in any way. ------------- |
