I have what i think is a Sound Blaster« X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card, bought it 2nd hand offa corp m8. Its hard to say, havent installed it yet as im using the Reltek on aboard 8 channel sound chip which is HD audio ( what ever that is ).
My question is, which is better, im using Vista 32bit btw.

The Soundblaster card is definitely better for a number of reasons but for many purposes the on board soundcard is more than sufficient.
Still, if you already have the card then definitely use it (be sure to disable the onboard sound in your BIOS).

Edited by: Grimpak on 14/01/2008 02:36:53 never liked onboard audio solutions. apparently that's the n¦1 problem that plages EVE sound, and what provokes many of the crashes that are audio-related.
besides, usually onboard audio solutions tend to be more cpu-heavy than dedicated cards.
so yes, the X-fi defenitely.
even if they gave me choice between my current soundcard (audigy 2 ZS) and a more recent onboard audio solution, I would still go for the card I have now. ---

Your seriously comparing onboard audio, Realtek onboard audio, to a soundblaster xfi?

Realtek onboard audio is actually very good nowadays. A couple years ago the onboard audio you'd get tended to be horrible, but it's improved a lot since then. Unless you're making music there really isn't any reason to get a soundcard imo.
My realtek HD 8.1 onboard audio chip makes no noticeable difference whatsoever performance-wise. I tested the difference once in Supcomm and it was something like 3% (ohnoes)

I'd personally almost always go with a non-onboard one, since an onboard one tends to use more CPU, which generally means less performance (even though these days it's minor).
