Nice guide but i got a question, i live in Stain region but our lowest sec status in whole stain is -0.36 and the constalation where i live has a max sec of -0.1903 does that mean we get bad rats in stain? and if we moved we would get better rats?
And does it matter if there is a station in your ratting system?

Yes you can find better rats, but you have more chance of finding Officers in NPC space.
Stations make no difference.

Well from the mouth of one of the GMs that replied to a thread with that question (I think the question was "where can I find estamel")...
"You'll Find Estamel Ta..(cant spell it) around the station systems in Venal."
I've had more officer encounters in the vercinity of station systems (0-2 jumps) than I have when I've been 10 jumps from them, but they're such a rare occurance that it's difficult to judge.
Another 10-20 officer spawns and I'll be able to look at the data properly. So if CCP could arrange that for me, that'd be swell :-))))) -- Ralara / Ralarina

I'm not sure if I am revealing an unspoken and tightly held secret, or just publishing well-known fact, but the "cycling" mechanic of belt rats also applies to missions, at least in my observations.
I have spawned faction battleships in missions from cycling. When I run World's Collide IV several times for the sweet sweet bounties and loot from the hordes of Battleships in that mission, by the fifth or sixth time I clear it, all the 850k isk bounties will have upgraded to 1.2 - 1.5m isk bounties and occasional Shadow Serpentis battleships and battlecruisers spawn.
Just pointing this out on a side note, don't want to derail your thread.

After ratting in fountain i have noticed that the true sec status really doesnt have an effect on the number of faction/officer spawns you get I ratted in a JGOW which has a true sec status of -0.0482. In a full days ratting(10 hours or so) i got 2 officer spawns and 4 shadow spawns.
I also found that in a given system you have maybe 4-5 spawns at one given time regardless of the number of belts. its best smaller number of belts ie less then 10. In terms of loot you can increase the isk you make by about 30% by just picking the good loot ie large guns/lanchers, mwd's, named items, hardners. Leave the rest these items have the best isk/m3 ratio. For example 20k m3 of this prime loot can be sold for about 300-400 mil.
Another thing is that hauler spawns can drop named mining upgrades these are rare and some are very valuable so it's a good idea to check.

Originally by: sexygheyman After ratting in fountain i have noticed that the true sec status really doesnt have an effect on the number of faction/officer spawns you get.
I have also found this to be the case. I have been in Fountain, Venal and Tribute in my time and here is what I have found:
The number of Officer/Factions spawns is proportional to the distance from the factions home constelation. For example ratting in m-o in fountain only a couple of Shadow Serpentis appeared each day. However ratting in a system of the same true-sec in the Minotaur constelation in fountain (very close to the Factions NPC stations) was a lot more fruitful and we saw roughly 1 officer spawn a week and 3-5 Shadow Serpentis spawns a day.
Simular could be said for ratting in Tribute and Venal but to a much more extreme difference between the two. Very rare is it to find a Dread Guristas spawn in Tribute some days none would be found when solo ratting a system. In venal on the other hand Dread Guristas spawns are much more common often finding a couple a day.
The quality of said Dread Spawns is better in Venal with them much more frequently being battleships than battlecruisers and cruisers. In short if you want to have a good chance of officer spawns I find that NOT CHAINING and being in an area close to the Factions home system is much more fruitful. Remember the best space is deep 0.0 so don't expect wonders ratting in Tribute or Cloudring!
With regards to the true sec status of a system I have heard several times that it doesn't reflect the quality of rats and I agree. So what does it mean? Well what it gives is a value of the space so a -1.0 system will have plenty of Crokite and Bistot around to keep the mining monkeys happy.
Pro Tip: If you ever get a hauler spawn stay in that system as I have found on roughly 1/2 of the occasions where I got a hauler spawn a faction rat would spawn there relatively soon. (ie The next couple of spawns) This would often be in the same belt when I pointed this out to corp members they began to notice the same.

Not sure it was mentioned, but: Commander (so True Sansha, Dark Blood etc.) spawns can happen anywhere. It might be much more common in low-sec, but I've found a True Sansha rat in a 0.8 system's belt just a couple of weeks ago.
Dropped even some faction stuff - nothing amazing tho, True Sansha tag and Microwave S IIRC. -- Holi Simplexion Ltd. [ md5 and sha1 checksum calculator ] |

I noticed this yesterday. I killed of a hauler spawn, and when i was looking inside the wrecks deciding if it was worth the trouble getting an industrial to haul the stuff a faction spawn appeared. With some nice loot i contracted after killing that spawn. :) ___________________________________

When you are ratting in NPC O.0 territory,is there one system that counted as a "home" system for that particular faction,or is the entire egion counted as "home "space? I rat in stain and have never been lucky enough to see a officer spawn, although some other members of my corp have.
And it is indded possible to "chain" spawn like of old, I've personally seen a triple 1.85 spawn re-appear,while i was busy dealing with the frigs from the last spawn that had me warp-scrambled...

Commander Katman here....
Ralara... mate i must say this info/intel on ratting is 10/10 (DED) style hehe
well i have been in 0.0 for a long time in a few very good areas ( now in stain ) what i will say is i would have to agree with what you said in respect to well all of it... i
have spent way more time than one person should in the belts and in the last year have had over 150 dread spawns and well over 50 hauler spawns ( stoped counting after this lol) and have had allmost every drop u can think of from faction towers to rattle snakes bpc's to omga implants and a s**t load more, and thats before i moved to stain, in the last week alone i have had 11 true sansha spawns and 4 haulers... still working on the officers ;) but this info matchs up with my findings aswell and its nice to know my tactics are all ok .
i have a mate in my alliance that has found a very interesting tactic to hunt officers and officers only and in the last 6 weeks he has had over 16 officer spawns in a 8-13 system area... lucky git... rather than post it here (till its checked and tested) i'l mail you in game with our findings for now !
by the way i have done 100's if not over a 1000 plex's and had untold x-type/a-type and sexy faction drops. and have done (allmost) every plex eve has to offer some of witch were insane and uber hard allso very rare finds and have a mass of info if you want to start up a post on it in the future.
thanks for taking the time to right this and to read my post allso.
good hunting

all i can say about the 16 officers above is wow if its true, but anyways i've found that in npc systems the true sec doesn't seem to dictate the chance of an officer a great deal as my corp currently rat in a lower sec 0.0 then before, yet the spawns are of a lower quality for a longer period of time before higher spawns appear as well as less officer and faction spawns and the ones that do spawn have poorer loot.
oh and to the above poster any chance of the info about the officer tactic?

Haven't tried it like this yet, but a friend of mine (new player) got a Commander spawn in a level 3 mission not long ago. In the 3 years that I've played I've never seen a Commander spawn in a mission before, and I've done a lot of them, but it seems like it is possible, must be very very rare though. EDIT: unless it was a storyline mission that always has a Commander in that particular mission... I have no clue. |

Same. Have been doing mission since I started playing (little over 2 1/2) years. Never gotten a commander spawn in a mission.
I did get one in a 0.5. That was the only time and it was a loooong time ago. Awesome guide though. I have pointed many people to it

Can someone clarify a chaining question for me?
Say there's 3 frigates/destroyers and 2 battleships. Should I kill the battleships only, or should I kill the battleships and 2 of the smaller ships? Is there then a chance of the smaller ships spawning as bigger ones?

I've picked up both faction commander and hauler spawns in low sec. Not as nice as the 0.0's usually but they do exist and not all that rare.
