If that's true it would explain my problem, although I was able to get in until about half an hour ago.

I have found an internet provider in the uk thats allows eve see below extract from email from plus.net (can anyone confirm if they are any good?)
All the accounts should be capable of connecting to Eve online, as well as other online games. Broadband your way pro is the best way to game online as all the gaming traffic is highly prioritised.

Pipex works fine for me and although they are no longer independent they have (so far) remained out of the realms of stupidity that some ISPs have adopted.

Pipex have just started their limiting of this, as always this is not every customer though, which is really annoying as they have been great to this point, as I upgraded my package I was stuck until July but as a compromise we have said March unless they can fix it but that will be too long without games.
Should it happen to you this is the email you want to send in, I am looking at www.Madasafish.com if anyone has feedback on them it would be awesome.
Pipex Customer,
We have sent you this email because you have reported a problem with an online application. In order for us to fully investigate this, we need the following information. (If you do not know the answers to these questions, please contact the website/games vendor concerned to get the relevant security information.)
Regards, Technical Support
------------------------------ -----------------------------------------------
Q1. Application/game you are having problems with?
A1.
Q2. What server IP Address does the game or service run on?
A2.
Q3. What ports does the game/application run on and are they TCP or UDP?
A3.
Q4. What are the problems you are experiencing with the game/application?
A4.
Q5. Does the application run differently outside peak hours (i.e outside 6 û 11pm)
A5.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
For diagnostic purposes, it will be very helpful for you to run a traceroute to the server you are experiencing difficulty with (see "Traceroute Instructions" below if you don't know how to do this).
Paste traceroute results here (see "Paste results" below, if you don't know how to do this);
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
TRACEROUTE INSTRUCTIONS
WINDOWS -
Traceroute can be accessed at a DOS or command prompt. An Internet connection must already be established.
1. In a Windows 2000 or XP environment, click on Start > Run. Type "cmd" into the dialog box, then click OK. For older versions of Windows, click on "Start" > "Programs "> "DOS Prompt" (Win 98) or "Command Prompt" (Win NT).
2. In the resulting command line window, type "tracert" followed by the IP Address from Question Two
3. Press Enter.
MAC OS X -
1. Double-click the Hard Drive icon > Applications folder > Utilities folder > Network Utility program.
2. Select the Traceroute tab and enter the IP Address from Question Two
3. Press Enter.
PASTE INSTRUCTIONS (Windows only)
To copy text from a command prompt window
1. Open Command Prompt
2. Right-click the title bar of the command prompt window, point to Edit, and then click Mark.
3. Click the beginning of the text you want to copy.
4. Press and hold down the SHIFT key, and then click the end of the text you want to copy (or you can click and drag the cursor to select the text).
5. Right-click the title bar, point to Edit, and then click Copy.
6. Position the cursor where you want the text to be inserted, click the Edit menu, and then click Paste.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for taking the time to complete these questions.

Pipex are owned by Tiscali, and are just as bad for Eve connections if you're unlucky enough to be routing through Tiscali servers. Avoid!

They probably haven't got round to "upgrading" your exchange yet. They did mine over the Christmas period and I haven't been able to log onto Eve after 5pm since.

IANAL and I am in the US. If they promise you an internet connection and have a contract with you, but are not providing that service they are in breech of the contract and I would think you should be able to get out of the contract. Your paying for a service they are not providing and they are in breech of their own contract.
It also sounds like grounds for a class action lawsuit similar to the class action that was filed against America Online when dial-up was popular here in the US. Customers of America Online during peak hours had to have their modems dial for about an hour in the part of the country I live before you could even get connected and once connected you couldn't even get email because the servers were overloaded. A class action lawsuit was filed and at the end of it all, AOL was forced to actually provide the service their customers were paying for.
Good luck.

Edited by: The MapMaker on 15/01/2008 19:47:43 Regulators have decided fair use policies and packet shaping and all that other awful stuff ISPs pull is within their rights. Screaming lawsuit won't get you anywhere, it's all in the small print and perfectly legit for them to di~ck you over.
Unfortunately my home has a Pipex subscription and a recent upgrade to their 8meg pipe means I'm well within their 12-month contract. Any way out of it?

I contacted Eclipse yesterday about their traffic shaping policies. They have said that they never block any ports however if during peak hours you go over their FUP for your level of service they will switch you to a 256k line for peak hours for the rest of that month.
Their top pack comes unlimited but they reserve the right to traffic shape if you use over 50gb peak.

Check out previous threads regarding Eclipse and who owns them and the fact is was not long ago since Eclipse users were on the warpath about not being able to connect to Eve for the exact same reasons.
As said in other thread this is not a port blocking nor FUP issue.
Tiscali have openly said they are doing this and there are links in the Tiscali stickies to all relevent information. The link to all this is Tiscali as you will see.

I can confirm that you can connect to Eve just fine through a PlusNet account. I've been with them for about 5 years now and have never had any real issues with the service. Add to that, the times I have had a technical query for them, it's been answered quickly and properly (in other words a technical explanation to a technical question, rather than being fed the usual drivel). IMHO I'd highly rate them and have recommended them to friends who have also had similar service.

I'm looking at IDNet - https://www.idnet.net/solutions/homeofficebroadband.jsp their site claims "no network contention, no port blocking, no traffic shaping, no bandwidth throttling", they are also highly rated on ISPreview.co.uk. One of their operatives confirmed that I should have no issues with running Eve via their service.
I just got screwed over myself by Pipex, since Monday this week, impossible to get onto Eve from around 16.00hrs until well into the small hours of the morning.

Avoid at all costs any ISP even remotely affiliated with Tiscali.
If they arent currently causing issues they sure as hell have been at some point or are more than likely to start causing problems at any time, without warning.
Tiscali have to be one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.
Thankfully I am no longer with them, I also more than happy with my current provider.
I get low pings, stable connections, reliable service and customer service of the highest quality.
What is this magic ISP?
ADSL24
They resell Entanet broadband. Do a google search, there are several companies who resell Entanet, they are pretty much all the same. I can say without hesitation and beyond any doubt you will not be dissapointed.
Clear open truthful selling of what you get, no hidden shockers, no BS just good stable connections.
Going with a good ISP will confirm to you that all those lies Tiscali tell you like "Its BT's fault" "Its a contested service thats why you should expect slow (read: dialup speeds) in the evenings" "We do not throttle" "ok we do throttle" "or maybe we dont" or simply not telling you anything, which is one of Tiscali's favourites, just outright omitting the truth, is all a huge sack of steaming manure!
Sure the service will always be contested, you should always expect slow evening speeds, but with ADSL24 I've never seen a drop below 2Mbit. AND: They do not throttle EVER!
So I think I've made my point! Entanet = WIN.... Tiscali = EPIC FAIL! --- I'm in yr posts dleetin all yr sigs - Cortes Fight the power! - Cortes |

I also use ADSL24 after switching from freedom2Surf who I had been using for 3 years and noticed a continuing downward spiral of quality after each buyout.... Anything to do with Tiscali is just plain old bad news for anybody other than 'silver surfers'.

This is very distressing news. I'm with Pipex and have only noticed this problem this week - the only time I've been able to reach the server was about 4am this morning, and that was only because I fell asleep on the sofa and decided to give it a try before going to bed.
I can't get a cable connection where I am, though I've always wished I could. What are my options here? I can understand them blocking illegal P2P stuff, but this? Surely they can't?

Cable providers suck in the UK. If you're close to an exchange of BT's get ADSL, preferably with ukonline.net.

hi i live in Milton Keynes in the Uk and am currently using Pipex. On saturady i cam home from work around 4pm to find no connection to the eve server, then in the evening it seemed to reconnect for about 30 mins then go out again until aroun 11pm. every thing seemed fine sunday morning and i was happily playing away till aroun 4pm ish or beforee when i got d/c and the same status unknown message appeared. checking all my system and finding it fault free i resorted to the forums and found this thread. althoiugh i do not understand what differnce bwtween eve and other game servers are that is preventing me from connecting. i noticew someone mention VPNS, do we connect to eve in a different way to other game servers?
i am now sitting here waiting to see what time my connection come back if at all, i would assume that if it returns later this evening that i am have same problem as a lot of you.
