Hi all, Came back to game after being gone several years. Would like to train for a HAC, but bored with caldari ships. How good is the Ishtar? I realize it depends on skills and am willing to train up my drone skills etc, if it is a decent ship for missions, pvp, etc. Currently have bout 5.5mil sp but mostly in fittings, missiles, sheilds. So before I make a plunge to learn everything needed to fly the Ishtar, would like to know if it's worth it? Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

You should consider the Sacrilege or Cerberus if your skills are in missiles and shields. The Ishtar is ok, but faces all the standard penalties that come with drone boats (such as destroyable DPS).
Otherwise, its fine.

i fly the ishtar almost 80% of the time, for everything. for pve i've solo'd every level 4 i've come across thus far, but you need hull upgrades 5. you can go nuts and try to shield tank it too i suppose, i personally wouldn't though. for pvp it can be nano'd fairly well as transversal doesn't affect your dps, although you do have to watch your little babies. you can also try to tank it normally, it still works decently. it can be a tight fit, but you say you have good fitting skills so it shouldn't be too bad.
to get you started my mission fit is
High 125 mm railgun I with antimatter to get some aggro Med t2 AB, 3 cap recharger t2's, and a t2 medium cap battery (this DOES give you peak cap regen) Lows two t2 medium armor reps, t2 cap relay, two t2 rat specific hardeners
rigs CCC and aux nano pump
trallalal you're on your way to rolling over missions and it all runs 24/7. if you get bored, you can throw on two tractor beams and two salvagers
you can swap out modules to go pvp with it as the rigs are still useful IMO

It's a pretty solid ship. It's tank will be a little bit iffy on L4 missions, but small sig radius should help. In PvP, the nano-Ishtar's considered a good ship, though a bit vulnerable to people shooting the drones. ------------------- I nerfed my own sig To amuse you, here is my Retriever ever since its first Trinity deployment. Actually, ishtar is the goddess of War and sex.

qft, sacrilege would be less of an SP investment compared to moving from caldari shield missile spec to gallente armour drone spec

Dont get the Ishtar....it looks too much like a Vexor and...its paint job is all silvery blue which amplifies any EM damage done to it. SO! Don't get it, it's the worst ship in the universe.

True, the sacrilege is really nice. When I was flying it on the test server on armageddon day it was able to solo any single nano ship except an ishtar fitted with a web and even then it was close. On the real server I fly primarily a nano-ishtar and it is very effective, if not expensive to fly as you lose ogre II after ogre II.

Its a great ship, the ship i use most of the time in 0.0. You can fit a huge tank since you dont need any grid for guns... If the drones die, you deploy new.

I fly both Ishtar and Sac, and I probably lose more isk from spamming navy HAMs than I do losing Ogre IIs. I like the nanoSac for small engagements/1v1, tankSac for gate camping, and Ishtar for large engagements.
