I'm looking at interceptors and I'm coming up blank as to what I am going to get. I'm thinking Crow. I'm going to use it for PvP, so can I get some opinoins on what interceptor is best and why? |

That's hard to say, because all interceptors have really close specs.
I'd say Malediction for the best looking interceptor, and Taranis for space superiority (because it's more or less the most resistant interceptor, while having a very decent speed and the best firepower. if you're Gallente, your blasters, who just are the best DoT frig weapon, just do 50% more DoT).

Crow, or Crusader.

I would have to say for amarr - the Crusader is much better.
I flown both the Malediction and Crusader, and the Crusader out-damages / out speeds pretty much every time. it can even "armour tank" a little and be effective in combat.
the malediction is good for web/scramble - but to stay in that range is suicide vs drones - i would prefer to use a cheaper figate - like a kestrel for that.

The Claw is pretty much the fastest, and with autocannons and missiles can do decent damage if you get close, but I'd have to say the Crow for fighting big ships (hit and run with missiles). For other frigates, the Claw might not be a bad choice... you can outrun them and do some serious damage with 3 200mm autocannons. Of course the Taranis' blasters hit even harder, but your Taranis will never get close enough to my Claw to USE them.

Ok as Claw pilot i dissagree, ill tell you why: The claw is indeed fast, i go with certain skills 3.5km/s. At these speeds i use medium skills trained, thats level 3-4 in gunnery. I hit at those speeds for about 10%, and this 10% is doing 20-40 damage each shot in 1.70s excactly.
It doesnt mather what gun you use, because at those speeds your tracking goes to fubar anyway resulting in the same dmg and hit results as 200mm has compared to 280mm. The 200mm has better rof so thats the gun to go for then.
So thats 1 point: Tracking of projectiles cannot keep up with the speed, only 10% hit.
The m-12's 2x can be handy for the claw to use on larger objects such as cruisers and indies, you do nice damage but 1 problem: That range!
With my skills i get 19km range and thats about the max range a claw can get, combined with the speed of the claw this results in:
MWD towards your victim, get in range and aquire a lock. in this time your at 5km range when you aquired a lock. Drop your missles, get 2-4 shots at the target and by the time that is done you need to turn back and aquire a lock and so on. This means time lost: Time thats fatal for you to be able to finish off your job.
Third point: Your 2 mid slots, this limits you to a setup like: 1x mwd, 1x webi. or 1x mwd and 1x warpscrambler. In other words its highly likely your target gets away in combi with point 2: the targetting.
If a tarantis is setup properly and it webs and scrambles the claw then its possible that the claw will not surfive the fight.
PS: mentioning orbit or slowing down to keep in range is not an option since cruise missles WILL take you out and orbit at these ranges causes your speed to decrease to 800m/s and make you dance up and down. - - -

stat wise i would go for the crow, i just trained the claw before knowing its stats and i was under the impression that i could only get the bonus of 25% rof/dmg when i was flying my own race.. But i gues i was wrong. - - -

Edited by: Shevar on 24/03/2004 20:45:38 Personally i would prefer a raptor to a crow, but hej...
Also as what interceptor is best, well depends on what you want... 1:1 interceptor vs interceptor and no missle/gun will hit you (basicly you are moving at 4.5 km/s as your enemy so you dont got the time to web someone efficiently) so they all "suck" equally bad, though factoring in ew the stiletto would win (if no ew then they are all crap). Indy hunting all interceptors are pretty much equal though i would rate the crow as the best one, and for scouting and fleet support the stiletto is by far the best interceptor (4 med slots). -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

You only need to be within web range for a millisecond and your target will be webbed for a full cycle.
I fly a Crow but the Raptor is not a worse ship in anyway, except it's not as cool-looking. The Crow relies on shields, which will be reduced by your MWD. The Raptor has more armor and structure and thus can probably survive longer.
Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes some nublar, wrecking for 1155.0 damage. |

Had nasty experiences with them ?
Pro's for interceptors are:
1) Insta-lock (no locking time)! 2) All-in-one wonders (web, scramble, mwd, and mount guns or launchers) 3) Speed 4) Harder to lock then any other ship 5) Stronger then normal frigates 6) If you play it smart you can win over any frigate (expect the kestrel) ?
Do I need to go on ?
I use a Malediction, and I prefer it above the Crusader. That extra medium slot (to web & scramble, while also be able to use a mwd) is far more usefull then that extra gun (which takes the most cap anyway), or that little bit of extra speed. But that's just my opinion (tried both). |

There is NO other frigate that I'd RATHER face in my Malediction than a Kestrel. They don't MAKE a missile I can't outrun. I think a properly outfitted griffin, along with a rifter/punisher would be my hardest opponents.

I'll be doing more fleet support than solo PvP. I try and avoid MWDs when I can because I hate the hit to shields, but it sounds like it's basically a requirement for an effective interceptor setup. |

In any serious pvp engagements mwds are by far the most usefull med slot item you can carry. The 25% shield/cap hit is alot less important then the ~600% speed increase.
But if you would be in a frigate tournament, unless you got very specific load outs you will loose because of that 25% (usually you arent allowed to use cruisemissles in tournies). -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

So the strategy would be something like I warp jam the target battleship/cruiser and use that speed to make myself hard to hit while my corpmates in battleships tear it to shreds. that sound about right? |

Exactly. MWD should be THE first mod you put in a midslot for a frigate intended for pvp. Then, I advocate some form of EW mod, scrambler, disruptor, web, etc. Shield booster should be the LAST thing you should add, because the bigger ships are going to do FAR more dmg than a small shield booster can recover, even named or shield booster 2's.
Speed is your BEST defense in pvp'ing in a frigate against bigger ships. Pretty much in any pvp involving frigates. Your range is the only thing YOU can control. Every other advantage goes to the BS or cruiser.

I'm flying the Crusader since a few days and i must say i love everything about it. It looks like a race car and it equips rather nice.
Anyways.. the loss of a medslot is no big deal, because i was not planning on PVP'ing solo with it. Btw, does anyone have a screenshot of a Malediction? -------

Ok... Next question is: I have a MWD and a warp jammer equipped. What goes in the third slot, webber or target jammer? Personally I say target jamming, cause not getting shot at is always good and it (theoretically) lets me take out unprepared ships all by myself. |

Webber
You can only fit 1 racial ecm thingie, basicly meaning you can scramble all (or half of em if you intend on scrambling caldari) interceptors and some frigates of that race. Not great, a webber on the other hand allows you a chance to slow mwd frigates/interceptors down to speeds cruisemissles can hit. -------- -The only real drug problem is scoring real good drugs

Intercepters only decent thing is that they have more slots.
Too expensive to use in any fleet engagement, they aren't worth the money imo.

Hmm
I dont use an MWD... I use a 10Mn Ab II, Micro Power's in the low slots for the extra power, then the rest "normal" in my Crows.
i can still outrun missiles but dont suffer any loss to shields or cap.
Might be worth considering for others.

It depends what you are trying to do. Killing other frigates? Go as fast as possible, pack cruises and a webbie.
Kill indies? Scramblers and cruises.
Scramble battleships? Buy a cheaper frigate.

Silv, I can definately contribute in a fleet engagement. A crow can mount 3 launchers, and fling 3 cruise missles at a time. combine that with a fast lock time and a webber and a warp jammer, and I'm a threat. Let's say the battleships do vape me. I'm out a few million rather than 100 million. The posts here make me believe this will be effective. If nothing else it'll be a hell of a lot of fun. :) |

A kestrel can fling 4 cruise missiles with a fast lock time and a long range lock. A caracal can fling 5 torps from extreme range.
So I assume you mean you are going to close the distance. Guess what, you start closing and you are suddenly target #1. No one likes a gang warper or scrambler in their midst. With numerous battleships/frigates locking and firing you're going to die, get scrambled/dampered to all ... its just that simple. Whether or not you can get a scramble off before you go pop is up to chance. Regardless, its not money well spent.
