Ladies and Gentlemen,
This June I would have been a player of five years, But thats not going to happen. I ( My Main) started as a miner, but soon realised the thrill of being a pirate. So I spent 4 years being one mainly based in Ami. For the loss of about 20 Battle Ships I killed around 2000 - 3000 players ships and pods.
When I started it would take 12 of us about 2 weeks to raise enough money to purchase a Battle ship. So when you killed one the threats you received were real( and bless eve they were good). Not the case now I arrive at a system now and am constantly greated with a request to buy isk! So many people now are able to buy capital ships because of this, dont fly it if you cant afford to lose it means nothing!.
This game is the titanic of multi player games but I suggest it has struck the iceberg and give it 3 years before it sinks.
The stench thats was BOB is slowly fading but the cheating memory they leave stays with this game, and the CCP that supported them I can only wonder who they have joined now.
Low sec is dead, 0.0 is the place to make isk in an alliance, high sec is or the real isk making for carebears.
CCP originally made the game how they saw it but now they mearly buckle to the masses, because they spend the money, makes for great profit but a lousy game.
I salute you, have enjoyed my time greatly and now soon look to the next game.

the days were better.
sadly as I don't play ever often and I don't buy isk I'm sitting on 8 mil a battleship 3 logtisics ships and a ton of toehr blah ships. So I'm sorry to see you go but I fully understand why your leaving mate. I actully rerolled because this new bloodline got me into the game again, being albe to start all over! but yeah everyone I kill I'm 100% sure it's not a loss to them anymore.
however I personaly think CCP will try to do something to fix this problem.
I don't know how but for now I stay. me and my 8 mil :P

I think it's a good thing that it doesn't take two weeks to replace your ship now.
That's what kept a lot of people from playing the game. 95% chores to 5% fun isn't a ratio most people are willing to tolerate.

that's true but eve needs something else to make losing a ship mean something. like oh **** I died! that means something REALLY BAD.
maybe factional warface will fix this.
not I'm not talking about isk but something, anything else.
like a battlefield that you can't get back to because of some reason.
Or if a simple number of kills and losses even on your charactersheet? so people see how much you suck.
Or anything really. I don't know I don't want to push out new players but I don't want to invite free ship lose yay nothing is wrong with dying.
but personaly this is one area where I guess I don't have any great ideas... :(

I would hold onto your character, you'll be back eventually. Eve won't be dead for a long time, despite what you may think about the game. Instead. you could always just raffle off your assets, donate them to your corp, or give them to a new player or something (or me, I could use some ISK atm ).
I do, however, have to agree that the old days, back in '04, or hell, even early '06 seemed a lot funner. Would be nice to see the death of the blob, even if it never happens
Anyway, good luck in whatever you may do next, and sorry to see you go.

As a beta player myself.. I have to sympathize with a lot of this sentiment myself.
Sorry to see you leave. Too many punks who feed off of what you talk about will never get what you are saying.
EVE is still the best and most beautiful MMO out there, but no where near the excitement of its former self.

If doing repetitive **** for two weeks every time you lose a fight is your idea of a good time, you can still do it today. Buy yourself a CNR or Navy Mega, fit it with faction and officer modules, throw some expensive rigs on there, and you're guaranteed to lose it sooner or later.

it happens jenny.
see you just joined so to you this game is how it is now. but to older players the game can be too different to bear. I mean think about it it's like how when we colonized western america. you could just out up a fence and done you own land. then everyone that owns land builds a little town which is really hard work. and cowboys show up and pirates!
now those same people go back to those same towns and there are HUGE buildings in place and they weren't hard to build and there are normal jobs everywhere.
it's great for us new young people! but the oldtimers just keep remembering building that 1st fence.

I disagree... The harsh penalties for loosing your ship is one of the features that has drawn me to this game. ashland, I just started in December 07
I just got lucky and some leaver gave me this character. Maybe you could also try to make a newb happy by going to some high secs and find someone in a rookie ship mining concentrated veldspar. Talk and get to know the player and transfer your character to the player. Make a newb happy
Oh I see, MotherMoon. Thank God CCP has new players joining from time to time to buff up players leaving because of boredom. It is all good for us because Eve never dies. --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

I think risk vs reward needs a bit more balancing (IMO insurance almost pays back a BS in full, only costs 20 mil to lose a well fit BS without rigs these days). I do feel CCP will fix this though, maybe with tech 3, I have no idea.
Isk sellers are a bit different though. Isk has lost its value, when I joined, 1 Bil was over 100$, now it's 25$. The isk farmers have gotten really efficient and are really tanking the economy. Of course CCP now has an economist who might help fix this. Isk sellers are a touchy subject, and CCP doesn't like to bring it out in the open. I still have faith they'll fix it though. The solution isn't to ban the sellers really (they will always be there, demand is too high). The solution is to hurt the players doing the buying and creating the demand, that's where the real problem lies.

Can't really argue with his reasons for quitting.
Don't give away your character, keep it going on long skills. There are many who will be jumping ship for the next halfway-decent game... too bad there are none on the horizon. Getting stuck with nothing to play sucks worse than being stuck playing eve.

actully I have a game you might enjoy :)
1st of all for one player space sim stuff have you played nexus or galactic civilizations 2 dark avatar?
the civ one is free to play by the way, 20 bucks to actually buy the game and thus get updates and bug fixes. basically your SUPPOSE to buy the game. but they don't ask for a CD key or everyone steals it. I know I did :) but I think I might give them 20 bucks it's really fun and I would like the updates.
HOWEVER, if your looking for something more like infinity which will never come out.
jumpgate evolution should be opening it's doors soon and sounds like a great twitch based space game. or at least I believe it's that kind of mmorpg. lots of news on it here. http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/overview/gameID/297/
do you use the same game name for everything? if so I'll see you out there! yarr! (I'm normally trentonx)

I am thinking if progression means old players are unhappy but the game could be better like in-station or ship boarding 3d combat, it would be worth it that old players would one day become a minority and CCP could improve the game so much because majority who are newb would have very rich gaming experience.
I mean to do it when majority are old players would cause loss of income but when they are the minority, it would not hurt the game anymore and CCP can do what they like to make Eve the best game in the market.
I'll say it is all win for all of us in the future. If one day, I could get in-station combat like boarding parties, I would be so happy with the game. It is going to be ecstatically fun. --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

yeah but it doesn't mean eve will die
but yeah just play another game :)
also to jenny not to **** off older players but yes I agree in a way. the vets are the minority, and most of them will take the game they used to play with them to the cancel ccount button.
paving the way for more new players to fill thier shoes.

Insurance pays out way too much. Recently lost a full t2/best named fitted (speshal for me because it's the first full t2/best named ship I've ever lost ^^) Typhoon.
Total loss after insurance paid out: Roughly 20mil. That's absolutely nothing.
Suggestion: Remove insurance or at least nerf it abit. I buy a Phoon for 60mil, 22.5 for insurance, and it pays out 75mil. That means that losing a ship which is supposed to be at least a littlebit expensive I get a total loss of no more than 10mil.
Make a loss sting abit. From being a Director of my corporation (and hence talking to people alot about stupid losses), people don't give a flying **** if they lose 10 Battleships / Day (*waves at Rev*), they still make more ISK than they lose if they just use 1 of those BSs to rat for less than an hour.

I was 5 months in beta and the last night of beta when everybody got 500 million and all skills when everybody when out to kill each other in a BS. I have ninja mined in outer rim and had so many freak bookmarks i could not keep track of them. But the one thing I never did was waste my time making other people miserable because I needed to feel special like you and then crying because I cannot cause more grief to people,so leave already. If the game dies there will be another and another, I have beta tested a few most suck, some are good a few are great and EVE is not one of them in my opinion. Sad to see a vet leave. I'm not even going to ask for your stuff.
I think it kind of makes sense that things that used to be uber expensive are now more affordable. That's the way prices work in the real world, and while this is a game it still makes sense that the older something is the easier it is to afford. I do agree on the isk selling websites, I want them all to die a slow death. I really wish CCP was more adamant about shutting those sites down.

Originally by: Jenny Spitfire I am thinking if progression means old players are unhappy but the game could be better like in-station or ship boarding 3d combat, it would be worth it that old players would one day become a minority and CCP could improve the game so much because majority who are newb would have very rich gaming experience.
etc
I'll say it is all win for all of us in the future. If one day, I could get in-station combat like boarding parties, I would be so happy with the game. It is going to be ecstatically fun.
Eve has a silly large scope. Something along the lines of "Lets make a game about everything, set it in the future so it is insanely more complicated and do it across several thousand solar systems rather than just one planet"
As for the isk seller sentiments, I take pride in never having bought any isk and doing everything the "Spoon Thumb" (hard) way!
But it does kinda suck when you have to work so much harder to find ways to thwart enemies that can just out-blob / out-isk you in "fair" combat

I play about 2 years and for me and my platime a lost battleship means about 0.5-1 week of grinding and resorting to fly a tech1 cruiser or make no pvp at all. That does hurt.
Lowsec isn't dead either. As far as i remember a recent devblog shed some light on the population. And lowsec isn't deserted at least not if you compare it to 0.0. And comparing it to hisec would be stupid.
But well its still good to see you go. hf

The trick is to always have a BS. That way when you lose your pvp ship, it will take you about 1 day or 4 level 4's to make 100mil. If you have access to 0.0 ratting, its even faster. Just always have a npc fitted BS safe somewhere, and name it "isk maker"
Making 100mil in cruiser would be tough work.
@the OP low sec is thriving btw, I love to hunt for piwat camps to bust with my main and friends. Recently, I have found lots of camps, and today for a change there were too many of them. Only killed a BS before having to de-aggress and bail. If you can't find something to shoot in low sec, you not trying hard enough.

No, I understand it, I just think it's idiotic.
If doing repetitive **** for two weeks every time you lose a fight is your idea of a good time, you can still do it today. Buy yourself a CNR or Navy Mega, fit it with faction and officer modules, throw some expensive rigs on there, and you're guaranteed to lose it sooner or later.
...and then you just have to convince every single other person in the game to do the same and you've got it right.
1. Insurance is only profitable when a seller dumps ships at a loss. 2. Even then, its only a handful of ships that return a profit, usually only for a brief period until the market shoots back up. 3. Tech 2 ships pay out so little as to be pointless to insure.
If there are issues with the insurance payouts, its the payouts that still come from CONCORD losses in high sec. However, there are enough threads on that subject already.

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 20/01/2008 02:06:12 I don't think they need to reduce the total potential insurance payout, not even in cases of ships that insure extremely well (Thorax, Typhoon, and a few others.) What they do need to do is change the methodology behind how that insurance is paid out.
Like, change it thus: * Lose a ship to an NPC? You get 50% of whatever insurance class you have. * Lose a ship in Low Sec PvP? You get 50% if you started the fight, 75% if you didn't (why should the insurance company pay off the full amount to someone who took the risk of going into low sec, hmm?) * Lose a ship to a suicide ganker in high sec? You get 100% * Lose a ship because you ARE a suicide ganker in high sec? You get nothing. * Lose a ship in a declared war? You get 50% or something.
Just a thought on the insurance issues raised in this thread. To summarize the system I laid out above, it penalizes the players who routinely engage in risky behavior, such as mission running or PvP.
edit: hell I could even support a system that pays off even less, especially for victims of war-related gankage. Another thing to consider is the complete removal of all insurance payouts for losses suffered in 0.0. If CCP wanted to go a step beyond THAT, they could create a system where alliances could have the option of footing the bill for insurance payouts in 0.0. Forcing alliances to manage their own insurance program would only add to the things to do in the sandbox after all.

Or just create a non claims bonus like real insurance, if you lose lots of ships insurance costs more and if you dont claim much it gets cheaper. ----------------------------------------------- My new years resolution is to give up nonconstructive posting |

Even though I have not been around anywhere near how long the OP has been in this game, I can see where he is coming from. Especially with the ISK sellers in local. I don't CCP care too much (if any) if your char is 40days old or 4years. Those days seem to be long gone. As long as your paying thats all that matters b/c it keeps Eve in business.
But like any progression in a PC game, things change. And Eve is no different. At least you got some good years out of it, that's something..
Btw if you have any nice rare faction ships I am interested

Ah it's always the case, older players are like grandpa in his rocking chair complaining how this and that isn't what it used to be.
I've been playing another MMORPG for the last 8 years and I'm still going strong in it despite the many changes. Adapt or quit is the motto I believe.

Good riddance to a miserable old git...eve changes, so does everything...adapt or die.
The major flaw in your argument is that back in the good ole days, a BS was the biggest ship in the game. Now it isn't, it's little more than a starter ship tbh.
Your blaming of ISK sellers is more stupidity; I've been playing for a year, when I lost battleships to pirates when I first started it hurt like hell. I've never bought ISK and now I could buy 30 battleships without blinking. There are many new ways to make money in this game, astute traders can make billions in a matter of weeks or even days on occasion.
Honestly, the myopia in the OP's post is pathetic, and is little more than my granddad complaining about kids these days and their fancy cars...where do they get the money for all that...they must be drug dealers...
Same thing. And your bitterness at Bob simply adds weight to the crushing lump of fail in your post.

So after 5 years of playing you finally got enough, tell me which other games have you played that long?
And yes at times it suck, but CCP have to make money so they have to keep the carebears as happy as possible.

I've played on and off for about the same amount of time with different chars and sort of see where the OP is coming from. Too many recent (well, not so recent) changes have really changed some major aspects of PvP which have really had an impact on a lot of people; particually those who chose to play Solo or to Pirate.
I think attitude has really changed also. 4 years ago nobody cared about K/D ratios, logging in at 4am to take a POS down, alliance-wide logistics keeping a POS network operational (mainly since they didnt exist), etc
EVE was a lot more to the point back then.
