I am forced to believe that there is no god(s). I don't see how anyone can believe that there is but whatever, each to their own. I just wish people wouldn't try to force their religions down my throat.

What can be asserted without proof can be dismissed without proof.
Mind you, as long as they don't try to sell me their religion/cult/etc, don't mind them at all.

Being an atheist it not much different from being <insert-religion-type>. You just choose to believe there is no god, they choose to believe there is a god.
Now, agnostic, that's completely different. You simply don't care wether any gods exist at all or not, and are quite convinced that proving it either way without a shadow of a doubt is (for the time being) impossible.

My understanding of someone trying to sell / force me their religion is not just being personally preached to, it also encompasses trying to influence any sort of policy that affects the general public based on their church's mandates or dogmas. Religion has no place whatsoever in education, science or politics, it should stay confined to believer's personal lives and churches, despite the many attempts on the contrary that is on the rise.

I once watched an interview with Richard Dawkins where he was asked why atheist and not just agnostic (as there is no absolute proof of the non-existence of god, either).
He answered (I'm paraphrasing as it was some time ago) that for things for which you cannot have an absolute proof, you have to deal with probabilities. He proposed that we have no absolute proof that right now it is not the case that there's a giant pink tea-pot floating around the other side of Jupiter, but we do have an extremely high probability that it is not the case, particularly since there is nothing that would support otherwise. Therefore we can safely assume there's no such pink tea-pot... at least for the sake of sanity.

I was a christian until my early teens. Then as I started to embrace science I gradually became an agnostic and after a couple of years full-fledged atheist.
I occasionally enjoy discussions about religion with christians, but sadly they tend to get extremely defensive and annoyed within a few minutes. (Fun game: advocate a religion different from theirs). There are exceptions though, most notably priests . Their secure in their belief but won't try to "save" you or condemn you for your wickedness, so you can actually have an intelligent and rational conversation with them (the ones I've talked to anyway).
Another good line is "your godless existence must be empty and hopeless". On the contrary, I take comfort in the fact that we ourselves are ultimately responsible for all we do, rather than being at the whim of some entity we can't fully understand or communicate with.
But everyone's free to believe whatever they want as long as they don't make me or someone else suffer for it I guess.

Agnostic FTW!
All the crap I've seen has led me to believe that either (1) There is no god, (2) he just doesn't give a rat's ass, or (3) If there is a god, it's definately a man... no woman could ever fuxor things up this bad. Any ways, being agnostic leaves me with the ability to repent on my deathbed just in case

No person who says they are a man of science can claim themselves to be atheist; they are agnostic. Unless they can disprove the existence of a god, and prove how we all came to be, which no one at this time can do.

Agnostic. While I think it would be nice if there were a god, it's not something I pin my hopes and dreams on.

This is true actually - a friend of mine is very religious and soon to become a priest, but he's just about the only one that I can have a sane discussion about religion with (among the conservative Christian crowd). It's extremely refreshing. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

there is no god. prove me wrong by presenting such god to me, personally, in front of me, face to face.
I will then proceed to punch such god in the face to see if it's not just a figment of my imagination, or some sort of hallucination induced by some fanatic fundamentalist cult.
I do however, believe that Karma is a *****. ---

One of the problems with being (myself) an atheist, is that is sounds so negative, such as "I don't" and "No".

that, or agnostic. I could go to the (slight) effort of believing a little in the FSM, while the other creepy man-in-the-sky figures don't even deserve going to the trouble of disbelieving in them.

Each to their own, again, I guess. Personally I don't mind the arguable negativity of the word one bit, but maybe that's because I want to be an individual and not like "everybody else".
Still... Take pride in what you believe (or don't, as it were). Most people believe in something, I choose not to. I'm an atheist!

I reject anything which is a popular belief, including the spaghetti monster.
As Athiest believe there is no god, i disregard that too. When you have faith, you do by no means have an open mind to the world.
