I have no doubt at all that Tiscali are having to raise Eve issues to a higher standing, and I do know some UK national papers, computer magazines and TV programmes are receiving heavy hits on the subject.
If/When this get cleared up , it hopefully will send out the message to other ISPs not to implement similar stratagies which would impact a lot more of the Eve community.

It seems there are 3 types of connection "platforms", and they are singling one out to try fix , and then implemant it to all.
Same old story though we can't give them feedback if the customers are no longer there, or not reading this post.

My experience was:
Friday managed to log in, but got disconnected every few minutes. Was completely unplayable.
Saturday - didn't play
Sunday - Got disconnected every so often, then port blocked Sunday night

Sounds like they are idiots.
ISPs here in the US are starting to experiment with it.
They also will sell you service at various grades, including nearly unlimited use (for a premium price).
Right now, I pay about 70 dollars US per month for 15MB/sec cable internet with no monthly cap for upload or download and no throttling. ------------------
Let me show you around. That's my lab table, and this is my workstool. And over there is my intergalactic spaceship. And here's where I keep assorted lengths of wire. |

I think you can get Tiscali for the equivalent of $12 on some deals.
You get what you pay for I guess, but they certainly don't make it clear you get a sub-standard package.

Caps, etc., used to be secret here (Verizon had a secret 8GB/month cap). Now, they're all planning to roll out tiered service.
If you want to go cheap, better count on never playing online games, and certainly not downloading anything.
90% of Internet traffic in the US is downloading **** and music - the ISPs want their percentage of that... ------------------

Would the changes be to completely block Eve for pretty much the entire weekend? Because I couldn't get on from shortly after lunch until after midnight, both Saturday and Sunday.
And to make things worse, it's just kicked in again, I've not had it on weekdays before.
It looks like I'll be taking a little "skills-only" break from Eve until Tiscali get their act together, or until I move out and get my own net connection... - Sig follows:

Why buy your own car , and then have to borrow your neighbours to drive to work?
What Tiscali are implementing here is the future of tiered ISP supplies, they're just laying the groundwork, you can smell it in the air, and then all the other ISP's will follow suit , so won't matter who you swap to.

It is pretty expensive unfortunately but I think I'll at least get some decent service.

Yes and that is the point , a game that uses less than 2 gig a month will be charged for at a premium rate.
The structure will once again penalise gamers for what should be an amount of use given away free. But we are an easy target.
Anyone now that swaps and gets regular connection to games will think their new isp are gods, and will pay for the worship.

True, true. It is bull**** yeah.
At least I can tell my self that we've been meaning to change for a while. It'll be faster too but meh, give me 8mb and I'll eat through that bandwidth pretty quickly.
Considering they've been blocking me from getting decent torrent connections for a quite a while I've got no idea why I'm still with them.
Anyway, I salute you if you're still with them, fighting the good fight. :p

And that is where the deeper look at what's going on unfolds the coming storm.
I can use my connection, just not when I want.
It's 6.2 meg ( off a so called max 4 meg line , another lie) and throws stuff at me faster than I can assimilate, but not when I'm awake.
I can play Eve and download BBC iPlayer progs, and do what very much the hell I want, BUT just not when I want.
Unless I pay more.
This is about forcing the market, a clever shift in ISP terms and conditions and a swap in service supplies, was it stealthy? I think they are getting away with it. Free upgrades and a tweak of the contract.
I'm a long time Eve player and a long time Tiscali user, the issue hit me at the end of last year, I didn't change, they did.
I wasn't an ass, h o le, didn't sign up for a cheapy, I got a fair priced service at the time, that served me well.
It is not the same service I was getting anymore.

I know people think that maybe pushing this cause is a waste of time, but I can tell you there has been over 1500 hits on the Tiscali forum Eve thread in the last day and a half.
Links, comments and explainations of Tiscali issues are spreading, and the increase in that number shows the we are raising awareness and continuing the pressure to get Eve set free, and also maybe sending a message to others not to cage us.

I believe you are right about this , people are not aware that one day , they might wake up and realize that they have joined the large group of people that have been cut off EVE , its not only up to your ISP , as more and more ISP's doing this nasty stuff , it will be enough if only one server on your route to TQ doing this , and thats it, no EVE for you . i am not a tiscali customer , and yet experiencing the same thing , i have spoken with my ISP and they do not block or throttle , but some server along the route to TQ apparently does , and im f***** .
anyway , good luck with this , i wish more people in the country i live would have play eve , so we can make more noise , but i only meet 2 peeps from my country that ever played eve ,one of them quited , the other on different ISP .
and maybe CCP should start thinking how to bypass this thing ,as it seems more customers being affected by it every day .

Your ISP is probably lying to you. All ISPs in the UK use a "Fair Use Policy" these days (as it's the law now) and most interpret this to include throttling common Torrent ports (which unfortunately a lot of online games use).
I switched to Pipex nearly 3 years ago after moving from AOL. I have to say that AOL's speed was far better than Pipex's during peak time. The reason I left AOL was because their software was like a virus and I couldn't stand it anymore. When I spoke to Pipex about the slow speed they told me it was a technical fault on my end, possibly line noise. After reading a thread here I realised that Pipex throttle.
Last August I stupidly upgraded to a limitless cap limit from 15 Gigs a month. Yesterday I decided to call it quits with Pipex so I can move to IDNet (after some advice from another Goon). So I phoned up for my MAC code and the guy asked me why I was leaving. I told him that his company throttle ports during peak time and he agreed. So they lied to me when I called up a few years back. As an additional stab in the back for leaving, they're going to charge me ú130 because I'll be breaking a 12 contract I apparently agreed to when I upgraded my service back in August. All I did was click a few buttons to upgrade from the 15 Gig cap limit. As far as I can recall I was never notified that I'd be entering into a 12 month contract.
So just in case you Tiscali guys are thinking of switching to Pipex; don't. They're bastards and I hope they all die in house fires. Go with IDNet. More expensive (for their premium home service) but they don't throttle.

And tell them that if they still charge you anyway, you'll be speaking to OFCOM and the BBC's Watchdog programme.

Brilliant, thanks for the ISP link, added to favourites. Will switch to this ISP the moment Nildram (owned by Pipex, which is itself now sadly owned by Tiscali) the moment Tiscali try anything on my connection.
Good to see it doesn't require contract either, which to me means the ISP has faith in the quality of its product.
What else can a year contract mean other than no faith in their product, and therefore the absolute need to remove your freedom to choose a superior product should theirs not be competitive?
Watch out Tiscali, dont f*ck with my connection or i'll be gone in a flash :)

Technically I did agree to it by clicking the "I agree" button. (Or so they say because I don't actually remember clicking on a new Terms and Conditions agreement). I've already told them that at no point was I notified I would be signing a new contract. They didn't listen and just gave me some legal mumbo jumbo. If I'd known I was going to be shafted into another contract I would never have agreed to it.
