due to living far out in the countryside I never played eve with dsl, only 64k isdn. and it always had been fine (ofc with ts, also when ts stumbles if you have to load a new grid with lots of other players but you should be quiet in big op¦s anyway <g>), sometimes in big battles i even loaded quicker than all the broadband users ^^ but these experiences are only pre trinity as i do not play active at the moment. a lot of loading-lag can generally be avoided with the right settings ingame and i suffered from less e-warps in big gangs than the standard player with "bad" ingame settings and who does not know where his "stop ship-button" is.
the only noticeable difference is that it takes me generally a bit longer to jump through gates. funnily enough this only gives a disadvantage in small scale pvp.

You can use a download manager and download eve, I did.
Dial up is okay that's what I use. However it is difficult in some level 4s and in medium to large groups of PVP because you sometimes get the inherent lag.
However for other things it seems to do fine for me. Small group PVP you are okay (that is less than a dozen involved).
Thoughts expressed are mine and mine alone. They do not necessarily reflect my alliances thoughts. |

Edited by: Dahin on 24/01/2008 06:08:58 Since I use a VPN to route my traffic to the eve server I can see the total amount of up/down data.
I had 2 accounts up, both moving stuff left and right non-stop. In about 1.5-2 hours I had a total up of 1.5 and down of 5mbytes.
So yeah that's well within the data of a dialup, BUT: Data shows up from eve in bursts, so you will definitely have longer loading times in systems and stations.
If I remember correctly running lvl4 missions in a quiet system approximately doubled that number for one character (so quadruple the per-char data).

You can read post number 16 and 34. I guess this is what you get when you tell people the truth or something they don't like hearing.
Fine then. Eve on dial-up is super fast. Let me see, the last time I tried Eve on dial-up, I had no problem passing Jita. Is that good enough Ardvaark? --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!

To answer the OP's question, Eve plays fine on Dial-up. As others said, Teamspeak/Ventrilo both get a little choppy when a lot is going on, but it works. You are going to have to find a way to get him the install file, but other than that, he should be able to play without much issue.

How is Jenny trolling??? He/she is talking about his own experience...To me thats giving an opinionand an answer based on his knowledge, that is not trolling.
Now put a sock in it and let people give their opinion and past or present experiences.

Well, having played it on dial up I can say it's playable, much more so then WoW for example. However don't do large missions, fleet battles or go into systems like jita. Although you can physically, if you get a spike your game will just freeze/lag and you wont be able to move for a few minutes. In a mission this means you are dead.

And I can see that you. infact, do not know how to read. Nobody here has said that Eve is super fast on Dial-up, but that it is playable. Someone disagrees with your opinion and you go flippy. You're a very hostile person, and I guess some people just don't appreciate that. I don't care either way, i got my answer.
Gonna tell him to give it a shot. ------------------------------------------------- Attention Devs, for every isk you send me one member of your family will be returned safely.

Edited by: Jenny Spitfire on 24/01/2008 19:56:53 Ikasu, if you know how to read Neon's reply then you will know who is hostile. In case you don't know how, it is post number 22 with starting words, "classic rubbish".
But at least I am happy that at the end of the day, you have decided to take my advice to tell your friend to play with a trial for a month. Seeing is believing. --------- Technica impendi Caldari generis. Pax Caldaria!
