While you cannot petition against the method of kill, it's perfectly legit to smart bomb ships as they come out of warp.
You may try to petition the loss of your pod. If you do in fact have logs saying "Jumping", then so will the GM's
My guess is your ship was destroyed as it came out of warp BEFORE you clicked jump (While you exiting warp, a smartbomb can hit you), and the pod was destroyed while you were "Jumping"
Bottom line, you wont get your ship back...but maybe the pod

Unless you saw yourself in the next system and local had changed over before you woke up in the clone bay, you obviously didn't make it in time. "Jumping..." does not equal "Jumped" sadly. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

So does it take over 22 seconds to jump into a system at 54m from a gate??? No it doesnt. I had jumped according to me and my log. It does not take 22 seconds to get through a gate, at 54m off it . I dont care about the ship. What i do care about is the game working correctly, and when i jump i would like to think that means i have. If this is not the case then how long does it take to jump?? 22 seconds seems along time my friend.

You will probably not get your ship back, here is why:
- Smartbomds were probably active continously - Therefore your ship was most likely destroyed while it was coming out of warp, before it would be possible to activate the jump gate - With the destruction of your ship, there is a 30 second session change counter before your pod could jump - Your pod would certainly be destroyed in less than those 30 seconds
As for your logs, server side logs would override anything claimed by your client. You client might have recorded your attempt to jump before the server acknowledged that the jump had taken place and before it had received notification that your ship had been destroyed.
The fact that your client was displaying information that was slightly behind what was happening on the server would not have changed the out come of the encounter. Even if your client was perfectly responsive, you would have still lost both your ship and your pod.
You can try petitioning if you think that something else might have caused your ships destruction, but I would expect any petition in a case like this to be a waste of time for both you and the GM.

Jenny III, the rigs alone on a ceptor can be more than some tier 1 Battle ships. And depending where you get them as much as a tier 2. Then you have some that pimp them out with faction fittings. why do you have to wait 30 seconds to jump after the destrution of your ship??? If this is the case then that is why i couldnt jump. i was not aware of this? I have previously jumped straight away after a ship has been popped?? as for the ship it was a bog standard Taranis nothing on it, but the issue is the game working correctly not the cost.

No it's nothing new. When you change ships for ANY reason there is a session change timer of 30 seconds. It has always been that way. If you eject and try to jump, guess what, session change.
It clearly denies you permission to jump. It says 'session change in progress' so now I'm wondering why you insisted that your logs said you jumped.
Edit: it is a matter of experience. Eve has terrible documentation. I don't think anyone is going to argue with that. If you want to petition them, tell them their documentation sucks, but this is not a bug and the game is working "as intended"

Examples of session change timer messages:
- "Just a moment while I finish gathering my senses.I'm pretty sure I can do it within 16 seconds." - "You're halfway onboard already. Please wait.Estimated time left for getting the other half aboard is 28 seconds." - "Can't do that while undocking.You should be squeezed out in 20 seconds." - "Please wait while ship is entering hangar.Scotty, the docking manager estimates 23 seconds left."
I had none of these or any other messages to this affect warning me of my session change???

Widgetman,
Simple answer is to feel free to Petition it, both ship and pod... just don't get your hopes up.
We trust the GM's to look at what they look at and make the decision... we may not agree with what they see, but we trust them to look. --------*****-------- It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but it doesn't take any to just sit there with a dumb look on your face.

Okay, so it doesn't show, in your logs, the appropriate "session change in progress" message. Either way, no bug caused you to lose your pod, just a normal game mechanic you happen to not be aware of...despite playing this game for over three years. Quote: A character location may be anything linked to his/her physical state and not simply a geographical change. For instance, docking, ejecting, changing ships, being pod-killed, losing your vessel, jump cloning, jumping through a gate, joining/leaving a gang and/or changing roles within a gang, are all actions that trigger the timer. Warping, destroying objects, throttling in space, activating a module or being shot at are however not session changes as your character attributes stay the same.

Actually, it was mostly that it seemed like you were petitioning something without a valid reason just because you lost a lot of isk. Said petition ends up screwing over those who have more legitimate reasons for losses, which tends to irk me.
However, I probably was a bit overzealous, and for that I apologize. Nothing personal, I swear. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

you may have a session timer to jump out, but you could have warped to a planet or something instead.
i heard a rumor that the autopilot can defeat the lag involved with manually jumping on contact with a gate. but probably a smart bomb, if timed correctly, would still be able to hit you.
if the smart bomb blows up your ship, wouldn't it require a second weapon cycle to also blow up your pod?
~~~~ ~~~~ ~~~~ Take away the risk and it would make flying around in space utterly pointless.
Take away the flying around part and you make EVE into a space themed spreadsheet application. |
I guess after four years you have not seen everything. But I got popped that way.
You were most likely taking damage before even coming out of warp. And pretty much insta popped.
I killed and have been killed right at that "tweener" moment when you are not really on the other side yet but the craft is slowly disappearing form the side you are leaving. And that craft can be hit during that time.
This not true. I have many times been denied for jumping due to aggression, but as soon as my ship popped, my pod jumped out. It even reset the aggression timer.
The case about the "Jumping" is although you havent actually jumped yet, your ship should be "invulnerable" You will see this message as you try to lock it.
Obviously a ship is not invulnerable to a smart bomb during this process. Whether this is intended or not is a different matter.
Once again, you do NOT get a session change when your ship is popped. Only once I lost a ceptor to Smart bombs on gate, and I was able to immediately jump through gate.
Session change happens when you change ships in station, eject or jump through gates. Not on destruction
So one disconnected bobble head on the forums says one thing, another says another thing, etc. Despite what Tar says, I would recommend you petition it. Even if you weren't to get your implants back, the most valuable thing from the petition is your ability to learn from it. The GM will be able to tell you whether you deserve your implants back depending on what the logs say. You should be able to go away from the matter at least knowing what CCP says about pods being able to jump after losing a ship, as opposed to Mighty Forum Warrior telling you.
I think so.
Question is, is the session change timer taking affect after a ship destroyed a bug or a properly-functioning mechanic? Anecdotal evidence from players says one thing, the knowledgebase says another. Unfortunately the GMs are more likely to go by the knowledgebase though...  ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |
There's the "session change in progress" notification - I think the autopilot is continually trying to jump to the next system and it getting rejected due to the session timer. I don't think that you will receive the notification every time you attempt to jump, but I'm not sure. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |
Yep...make sure your petition is detailed, and if the response you get seems a bit shady escalate it - a senior GM would probably know what the right answer to this is. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |
Escalate it..period. Time after time, the regular GM's have shown they lack any knowledge of the game. Meaning...they know how it 'should' work...but never how it 'actually' works. So they base all of their reactions on faulty information. So yeh, just escalate it and if they close it before you are happy with the answer...open a new one. After doing this about four or five times, they get really cranky and will usually care enough (so youll stop petitioning) to actually explain the situation to you better.
As for your issue. Petition for pod loss and ship loss. Why? Theres a fault game mechanic involved, well three. 1: That period where you come out of warp where you a) cant see whats infront of you. b) you cant do anything at all. 2: The notifications suck. Yes yes CCP was trying to be cute and funny with them, whatever, if i want cute and funny ill go punch babies. The notifications need to give players more information. "Sorry cant do that" is rather lacking information. "Sorry, you cant jump right now" gives you the information needed to make the decision to go to a planet. Its kind of like how saying 'no' without an effective reason is a faulty parenting technique. 3:The period where you jump and have no control. If its true that your ship is sorta on both sides while jumping, then wow..********. I hit jump (and as long as there is no notifications) i expect to jump immediately, not some half arsed slide thru the gate and be in two places at once. (Sounds about as hazardous as crossing the beams )
So yeh theres my 2cents. If you cant tell, after almost 2 years i am rather lacking of restraint when CCP screws the pooch. Dont like it? Great, enjoy your point of view, i wont tell you you're wrong. But this is mine so bugger off.
Delivering the kick to the jaw of society to stop it from drooling on itself like the ignorant slop it is since 1984.
It's a safe bet that your petition will be answered by august.
You can check up on petitions through the EVE website, after you file it check back every week or so - they may want more information. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |
You got smartbombed in Rancer , you deserved to lose your pod. All fair and square in my book , game mechanics are the same for everyone.
Unless you will be able to answer questions the GM's have regarding this issue, then no it will not be worth it.
It will probably take them a couple of weeks to get to your petition, at which point you will likely need to explain a bit more about what happened before they will do anything.
If you wait until August they will not do anything for sure.
You can access the petition system via the website, if that helps.
