Anybody familiar with roaming gangs will be all too familiar with aligning. Having to double click as close to a celestial object as possible so you are up to speed and in the correct direction to instantly hit warp speed. There is even a broadcast assigned to this. So CCP recognizes the function. So why canÆt we have an alignment button under the selected items window. We have one for look at, orbits and keep a distance. So why not to align my ship at speed and therefore allowing perfect alignment without having to spin the camera around to find the dam stargate and then fiddle with the cursor. CCP please save us agro by just putting in an ôalign my ship toö command. (Guys if you want this in the game please speak up here)

Agreed.
I've never been quite sure why you can't just click 'approach' for distant objects to get going in the right direction.

NO!!!
Dont you see? The additional 10KBs of coding that would require such a button would create generate an inter dimensional portal that would allow the Great Old Ones to return! Chaos would reign!
CCP knows this that is why they have Never included such a button for YEARS!!
btw.

Seriously, yes. I think I've started this thread three or four times, and I can't begin to count the number of times it's been posted. I think Oveur makes the other devs drink a shot every time this idea shows up in F&A.

Oh joy \o/ people like what I have to say and I now feel like such a big man. Now to pick a fight with someone whoÆs much larger than me and realize once again that IÆm not that big after all.
Hello Mr Zulupark I understand that your schedule is very busy juggling your time between. Nerfing minmatar speed tanking in response to your secret character in Bob getting poded by AAA for the 100th time (guys you can put your tinfoil hats on at that reference itÆs okay with me). And of course the old important task of nerfing cap ships by the backdoor as this does not require you to release a Dev blog (thank god!). But if you could consider this topic I would greatly appreciate it. You know---sort of remember to mention it at the next creative content meeting at CCP preferably before the beer takes hold that would be just great.
Thanks
Tim

Absolutely no reason why this shouldn't be added.
"Align at minimum speed" and "Align at full speed" would be even nicer, 1% and 100% respectively.

And while you're at adding this also add a 'Align Fleet to...' command. That'd be so much more convenient when no one has to search the known space for that one stargate or whatever to align to.

Yes!
Unlock the approach button : we need to align with it and also to be able to move to objects we see in the grid, flying an inty and not having approach and orbit button over 150km does not make it easier... -- Pocket drone carriers (tm) enthousiast !

yes from my experience of FCing mobile gangs that would be so useful. But think about how useful that would be for goonswarm. as opposed to teaching 1000 noobs what to do. In fact if you take the idea far enough it could be like what the calculator has done for mental arithmetic..........no one knows S**T anymore they just follow the automated functions :)

Edited by: Tripson on 25/01/2008 18:03:55 I agree. An "align" and an "align fleet to" command would be very helpful. This is something I believe should have been implemented in the game a long time ago. Thanks for reintroducing this issue to the public Tim. You're a modern day hero. |

There should be an align button AND an align command dropdown menu/option when the "align to" fleet command is given. Giving a fleet command to auto align every ship might be over doing it. The next thing that will happen is that people will ask for a fleet button to jump everyone.

you also want an "auto pilot - warp to zero" and a "warp all gang at the same time no matter the ship size" ?

I can see that everyone agrees that this is a good idea, so I tried to think about why it isn't.
Perhaps, this is in the realm of "tricks you learn along the way" like warp to 0km instead of using autopilot.
If the autopilot warped automatically to 0km, then .. hey - why the hell doesn't it!?!?! I guess to reduce congestion.
Point is, CCP could make many of these often-used tricks into standard options, but is that the best thing to do here?
Perhaps a solution would be to have a align-to option when navigation is at level V

guys I think we're going a little bit off-topic in typical eve-o forum style.
Just remember that this is about installing an "align my ship to command" nothing else.
I'm sure there are lots of other commands which could improve mobility or mess-up the game mechanics. However they are void of the point and could potentially be considered a thread hijack. Oh and for those who don't know the ISD does not like thread hijacking. So be careful guys.

Edited by: CSH WhiteKnight on 26/01/2008 19:36:41 Tbh rather than an "align to" you should just have the option of "approaching" anything, regardless of distance.
To aid gang warps, you could also have "approach fleet to <object>".
Either way tho.. /signed

I don't believe that this should be implemented.
I think that a 'dock fleet' button might be acceptable but an 'align fleet' option effectively just dumbs the game down too much, making it automative and uninvolving. While aligning might be a small part of gangs, it is still an integral part and as such it should stay in line with the rest of eve. You should have to be there, concentrating, to take part and align for yourself. If anything, the current system boosts working together and preparing for you main objectives.
Just my thoughts.
Edit: I came to this thread through the 'dock fleet' thread and even though I read the op fully I didn't notice it was a solo command option. But still, if this was implemented it would 1) make the fleet command option inevitable and 2) still make the game too automative.

I'm thinking how much miners would love this. They could always be aiming directly at their safepoint in case a hostile jumps in. Great idea!

Hello,
maybe I am too noob as a player, but what is exactly this "Align to" mean? Is it just that you have your ship pointing toward the place you would like to travel to? What is it good for? Hitting "Warp to..." and not having to wait for your ship to turn around?
Sorry if this is a very stupid question and maybe off-topic.
Regards,
|
