I currently fly a tempest, but I am frustrated and cant seem to get comfortable. So, should I switch the race-type of the ships I fly.
I love armor tanking, and dont exactly like using my mwd/afterburner. I find that if I use artillery I cant hit anything and if I use autos my ship is too cumbersome to turn. I dislike missles and want just a medium range fat ship. Ideally I would like to sit next to my raven friend and do decent damage.
Should I switch to like amarr battleships? Eventually I would like to fly an armor tanking carrier or support ship. Thanks, Oranga

Minmatar battleships are the least cumbersome. Sounds like battleships aren't for you, tbh.

I just dont like moving period. My caldari friend sits in same spot with all passive shield stuff and ruins everything. I want to sit next to him and do the same, except with armor, active tanking, and turrets.
My ship moves slowly I think because I have 2x 1600mm plates strapped to it.

yeah that would slow it down a bit
Sounds like a nice rail-athron would be just about what you want.

If you don't want to go fast, then pick something slower.
Mega Pulse Abaddon/Geddon - good damage but you need all your cap skills maxed.
Rail-Thron - gives up the tank a bit but range can be very nice sometimes.
Rokh - Same as a rail-thron but better.
I would say go for the Geddon. . .

i think youre talking about PVE here, right?
imho this sit/tank/shoot doesnt work too well with turret BS in pve. unless you concentrate on the battleships. but still, proper maneuvering greatly increases turret damage
vargur with acs and a falloff rig would work, i guess :P but its not an armor tank
typhoon is nice. but its not really turret based...

Get a Typhoon and some cruise skills, drones skills, and some armor skills.
Then sit around and watch the rats die. That or upgrade to a Mael.
Stick with Minmatar. Best race in the game hands down.

well i would say go for the amarr BS, they are exactly what you need lol, big slow powerhouses designed for mid range encounters and armour tanking.
earlier it was mentioned about using megapulse on the geddon/abaddon, imo, this is a dreadful idea, using dual heavy pulse means you lose some damage and a lot of range with the boost of being able to: - fit a tank - fit a cap booster - not need a cap booster to run your guns (abaddon) - run your tank without a cap booster :P
using dual heavy pulse and switching crystals you will still be able to shoot up to 50km away, your optimum being around 20km and still rivaling a blasterthron for damage (all you turds who feel like saying how much dual heavy pulse suck and megapulse own, read that, its true, you dont need the biggest guns evorzzzz to function, well maybe you do, but my general feelings towards you are that you fail at life)

min are only the best race for frigate and cruiser class imo
the rifter and rupture own, no doubt, however in the BS wars, min are average, they dont have the amazing mission ship like the raven or the awesome damage dealer like the arma or the mega, the maelstrom is a good tank but not much good for anything else, it has an awesome alpha strike and then you align for warp and leave while the mael pilot cries about the rof of his 1400mms.
then you get to capital ships and minmatar just fail. their carrier is just a failure the dread is a bigger failure, it has more weapon slots than all the other dreads and yet it does less damage than both the revelation and the moros, by something stupid like 30%, then combine that with a poor tank and you get a laughable dread that doesn't even have enough cpu. the minmatar titan... wtf are you meant to do with a sig radius reduction?! the amarr have their cap recharge!!! which is sick and wrong and then you get min who just fail lol
saying all of that, i still love min, and theres nothing wrong with their BS (except they don't seem your kind of ship) but all their capitals, which i imagine you will want to fly at some point, need serious reworking

You have a prtetty stiff position for Eve :)
You can be a semi-stationary tanked monster with Minnies - use Maelstrom. But its shieldtanker. I see no problem in that, just train up shields and fire away.
If you for any reason despise shieldtanking, and will not accept anything but armored turret monster - then go for Gallente BS.
But i must say if you havent figured out the necessity of transversal speed management for turret platform in PvE, then you will be a very sad panda no matter what.
Only caldari ubertanked missile platforms can sit still and switch targets, but thats boring as boredom. Who would want that?

if he want to armor tank i guess he can do th esame with either the pest or the phoon, the phoon do half damage of the maelstrom if you fit it with 4 atrys and no missile launchers, add sent drones and you can do alot of damage, not as much as if you use missiles to but i guess it still works...

Minnie BS's are fine but bear in mind what people say about tracking and that you really need 20+ mill sps for BS's to really start to shine...

Is it really that or is it "By the time a player gets 20 mil SP he/she really starts to shine."?

I think it's the latter honestly. Increasing my missile skills from 1.5million SP to over 4million SP didn't significantly increase my damage output, but it did give me lots of time to learn how to better use my ships.
Maybe by the time I have 20mil SP I'll be competent too.

Lose the 1600 mm plates. They don't do anything for you. If your tank isn't keeping up with damage, you should be warping out anyway. The plates would only buy you at most a minute or so and they delay your warp out too. Either more armor hardeners or something to boost tracking and/or dps. Then maybe you can get rid of that AB or MWD too, if you really want to.

I can't think of a better race to have trained than Minmatar.
So many superb PvP ships. Their battleships are no slouches in PvE either.

I think there are plenty of good pvpers with low SP, it's more a matter of approach, However try flying a BS at 3mill sp and 20mill, you'll see a huge difference all other things being equal

Stick with the Tempest, NEVER plate it, go for its active tank. Nimble being, train thermodynamics and play with it to its extremes.
Trust me the ships got some punch.
Get t2 large autos, t2 tank, torp/missle skills and ecm drones o and thermodynamics... did i mention that before?
If you want to know how to make the ship work, work it like a low sec pirate would, your covered by 90% of eventualities.
