De-sync is not petitionable as it doesn't "exist"
I can't give you the exact definition as I lack the exact words for it
Also it could be a smart bomb
of course in this situation I'd say "wait what?"
Were you at war with any one?

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 30/01/2008 08:08:49 They won't refund ships lost due to desync. Fleet battle vets know this well enough, but unfortunately for everyone else the only time they are likely to encounter desync is in Jita, so it isn't necessarily going to be a familiar aspect of gameplay.

Sounds to me like CCP needs to fix there **** BEFORE they try to push for even more people and even more overloaded hardware vis there steam deal.
I don't mind losing stuff in a fight, but getting blowed up while in warp isn't a fight, its just (undescribable because the words get bleeped out...).

Where you missioning? Ratting? or in a belt?
De-sync is when the client and server are out of sync
Basically the client says your in warp, but the server has you at another place/not moving
So if you were doing any of the above, the rats could have killed you...

Technically you got blown up before you entered warp, it just took the client awhile to realize it (the nature of the desync phenomenon )
The bigger question is why? You aren't in a war, so you either accidentally attacked someone or you were unlucky enough to be a bystander when someone suicide smartbombed someone else (in which case you probably weren't the target unless you were carrying millions in blueprints or faction gear or something.) Or as Elrca said you could have been destroyed by rats, although there wouldn't be any of those in a 1.0 system unless you were mission running (and the Jita area isn't a good place for doing missions.)

I was carrying 2 gist A shield hardners I'd just picked up in Rens :-) those are what I want back.
When I got back to the gate in a new ship my wreck was at the gate I was headed to, so I obviously died there after coming out of the warp I was still in.
Unfortunately my wreck was empty, but I only had 1 kill target, who wasn't in system so shouldn't I have gotten a second one for someone looting my wreck?
Did I get the kill target for the person looting the wreck and nothing for who killed me cause it was a death by ccp server screwup instead of a real kill?

You got suicided cause you were carrying expensive mods in a weak ship. You won't get the mods back, and I doubt you will get the ship back either. Carry expensive mods in a ship with loads of HP next time (T1 hauler with shield extenders is NOT enough). ---------- "Whining gets you stuff, that is why humans got to the top of the food chain and all the other animals got nerfed." |

The person who killed you, and the person who looted you could be the same person. They just would have needed a spare ship close by to board. Concord only kills the offending ship.
But in regards to being around Jita I say welcome to the most dangerous area in EVE. And that's not just due to the lag and desync that frequent the system.
I stay away from Jita at all costs.
Though killing someone in warp would be difficult. Were you by chance afk?
I know a tactic I heard of that would work in 0.0 is setting up a warp bubble in the path between two gates and a disco BS. That suprise attack on smaller ships and your tank turned off you would be dead. Recruitment Thread EKT Website |

And here folks, endeth the lesson, "Don't transport expensive items in a crappy ship".
It could have been desync, but looking more like a combination of suicide killing and maybe a little lag. (In Jita? No!!!!)

Nope.
If I had been afk I wouldn't have known I was still in warp now would I and wouldn't have any reason to complain
Just don't seem right that warp to zero travel would get you kilt that easily cause of lag or desync.
I would have hoped after all the time eve's been around CCP would have fixed this issue by now, this is the same issue that cost me my first cruiser many many years ago.
Actually looking back, I can think of far more deaths via poor server performance then actual npc/pvp combat

I don;t want the shiop, I want the mods I was carrying back :-p
Or people could stop all being in the same place as soon as CCP upgrades the servers. When you go to the most crowded system in the game, you ask for trouble... Rens and Amarr got around the same prices and dont have these trouble.

You don't get killed by lag/desync. It was a player that killed you by suiciding his ship probably using smartbombs. This can cause lag/desync (especially in a crowded system) and that's why it looked like you were killed while in warp. You would most probably also have lost your ship if there was no lag at all.
Furthermore you will only get kill-rights on the one that killed your ship, the one that looted your ship will get criminally flagged to you and your corp so he can be shot for the next 15 minutes.

You know this kill could have actually been worse for the OP. Imagine if they HADN'T been desync'd and got killed in a T1 frigate in high sec. That would mean they couldn't align for warp faster than the opponent could: 1. scan them 2. activate cargo analyzer 3. move into smartbomb range
Just to put things in perspective

Here's a tip: Carrying 200-400 million ISK worth of faction modules through Jita in a defenseless ship is stupid. It's like slathering bacon grease all over yourself and camping out in the forest during grizzly bear mating season.
Get a Mastodon or a battleship or something. ________________

get a drake and ram it with shields then you can afk the trip basically in safe space, concord wil wtfbbq anything that shoots at you long before you pop.... unless your really unlucky

First off, you've got alot to learn.
If you go park some shuttles in an astroid belt Then come back with an ibis and attack someone, concord kills your ibis and they linger around..
now try aproaching one of the shuttles. They'll kill the shuttle before you even get into it..
Just try it.
Secondly.
Bad News Bears.
A bubble between two gates wont pull someone out of warp, due to the fact it'd take incremental checks not in milliseconds..
But in microseconds between checks to see if you had existed in the sphere while going multiple times the speed of light ..
150,000,000km in 1 au, you're going say 3 au/s 450,000,000km per second.(pretty slow)
Now how wide is that bubble? Lets toss a t2 large in just for good measure. 108km side too side (biggest sphere)*edit* got diameter and Radius confused, my bad*
You'd have to check every 0.00000024 of a second to know if that ship actually passed through a sphere that size...
Much more for a smaller sphere.
The Good news is..
A bubble near the players natural Exit point in alignment with their vector Will alter their exit point by up too 1000's of km last I checked.
There is 2 possibly 3 reasons for, CCP's drive away from the anestetic apeal, a real "pull a person out of mid warp" bubble would bring.
1) how the calculations are done, it'd require a TON of work to get it to work the way people think they should work.
2) if they did work the way they should work, the amount of lost ships in 0.0 would shoot straight up.
What do you do now if you encounter a bubble on a gate? turn around and head for the gate?
What would you do if you found yourself in a bubble on a strech of space so wide between stargates you would not have seen the bubble on your directional scanner at either gate. and a cov ops frigate tells 20 people to log on once you're sittin in the middle of the bubble.

You are right, bubbles don't pull you out of warp if your warp exit-point isn't on the same grid as the bubble.
BUT... it would only take ONE check to determine if your warp trajectory hits a bubble at some point to determine if you get caught and the exact position of that.

One check that would consist of either the game knowing all possible warp trajectory's in the system (millions of combo's) and seeing if a bubble was inline. Or one check that consists of performing an IF, THEN statement on all the grids between you and your destination.
Assuming a grid is 800km cubed. And 1 AU = 149,598,000 km. It would take 186,997 checks by the server PER AU that you want to warp. Talk about lag... -------------------------------------

Your warp trajectory is fixed as soon as you enter warp, as is the position of every single bubble in that particular system at that time.
No need to check every single empty grid.

The other question here for the OP is.
Were you IN warp? Or had you engaged the warp, but weren't actually in it yet.
Just because your velocity says "Warping" and the tunnel graphic is displayed, doesn't mean you are actually in warp yet. In a hauler, this can easily be a 15 second or longer time period where your ship is preparing to warp but hasn't done so yet. This is more than enough time for a well fitted T1 ship to blow you up.
Cargo expanders do a great job to increase this vulnerable timespan. Only fit them if you need them.
