Perhaps I will just have to relog when this happens to me. :(

I've had this problem too, using the Classic content. Yes, my drivers are up to date. Yes, my machine is patched and updated. Yes, I do understand a bit about computers. No, this problem didn't exist for me prior to Trinity.
Mine normally behaves if I switch from windowed mode to full screen then back, but not always.

No, I noticed it before, but just haven't posted as I've always suspected that I just had too little memory on my comp. I've been having this problem for over a month, too, but then, I don't always notice it because I tend not to travel.
That pretty much sums it up for me too! _____________________________

Edited by: Ademaro Imre on 31/01/2008 21:04:31 Edited by: Ademaro Imre on 31/01/2008 21:01:14 What is Private Bytes and Virtual Size and how do they relate to Mem usage in the task manager?
Using Microsoft's Process Explorer, and after several times minimizing Eve, I get this, and this is a shot with Eve minimized (guessing to close mb useage)
Mem usage when minimized : 58mb (goes to 38mb, but rises fast even when minimized) Private Bytes 385 mb Virtual Memory 646mb
LINK TO SCREEN SHOT OF PROCESS EXPLORER AND TASK MANAGER
Also - pagefile is not changed my minimizing. The private byes number just keeps increasing, especially after every jump gate use. |

My real problem isn't so much to do about ram (I have 1gig), but rather that EVE's virtual size gets so big, that I run into tons of paging. Eventually the clients get so big, the hard drive chugs like crazy, and I have to restart them.
Unfortunatly, "eventually" isn't all that long if you travel around. Just doing an autopilot route for 15 systems or so (especially across several regions), adds a couple hundred mbs to the evefile.exe size.
This might be how its supposed to work, but it never happened before the Trinity client. Not this bad.
Besides, this storage buffer thing that stores objects you run into for XX amount of time.. I thought that's what the new Cache settings were for? I've had it off, and it still happens.

I guess that I've must have been lucky for once... I can run two premium clients with full effects in window mode and still be able to do other things. But at some slow speeds. The only problem I have had after Trinity is that I can't use "Show info" on any system or use the map-thingy that pops up on the right side of the screen showing system, constellation and region... the client just shuts down.
The only thing that ccp tells me is to clear my cache and reinstall... I've reinstalled my computer 3 times and bought a new graphics card and it still happens. Also on my new laptop :S - - - |

I fail to see what the issue is.
1.4 gigs is all the client uses on my machine.
What's the issue?

I crash fairly quickly when it does that... Its only allocated like 7gigs out of 8gigs available. That was after around 20 minutes of doing a mission.... and then I rinse and repeat.

I have had this issue since the dec graphics patch. I run two clients windowed 1024 (xp) with classic graphics on a premium client install, every time i jump a system with each client the memory jumps a by a few more meg.
I have 2 gig of system ram, if we are on an op and are burning 20 jumps i have to relog every 20mins or so as once i hit around 1.7gig of total mem usage each client crashes.
I was hoping this would have been patched by now but it has been almost 2 months, my corpmate also has exactly the same issue as me, it's incredibly annoying.

when I run premuim graphic it fills up my 4 gigs of ram in about 30 min and this is with cache off no shadow no hd. it seems to be a ATI/EVE problem. just installed a ATI card on my older system running XP Pro and it does the same thing. do have a bug report on it but had not heard nothing for a couple of days. after a few days of test thing out for them.

December 1st, Eve only needed 250mb, for the same classic client I am using now. |

Same numbers here - except I have 1 gig ram, always worked before - when my pagefile size gets to 1.6-1.7 functions in eve and windows stop until I exit a client. I am glad you posted this - because I was not sure if my 1.6-1.7 pagefile size was some particular to my system. |

I'd say something obvious but instead I'll just chuckle in silence. Using 4 classic accounts on 2 gigs always seems to run fine for me with no memory issues. I can even swap out 1 classic for a premium and still get great performance. Granted my gaming rig is a clean build with absolutely no secondary programs loaded like torrents, chats or other useless tray tools to muck up the OS. System = XP, C2D, X1950.

Edited by: CCP Sputnik on 01/02/2008 10:42:20 Thanks guys for posting all this information.
Because it seems to be a problem of special hardware - software combinations it would be nice if you could help us to pin the problem down.
Could you please: - Make sure that you have the Mem Usage Column activated (View -> Select Columns...). - Do you have enough space on your hard drive for the virtual memory left? - Check how much virtual memory is availably (Control Panel -> System -> Advanced -> Performance -> Settings -> Advanced -> Virtual memory) it should be at lest 2 times your RAM size. - Do you have audio enabled in EVE? If yes how many clients have audio enabled?
And now I would like to have some informations about your machines: - Which Windows are you using? 32bit or 64Bit version? - Which video adapter and sound adapter? - Do you have a virus scanner running and which virus scanner is it?
Thanks in advance for all the answers.
PS. I will maybe add some more questions later. __________________________ CCP Sputnik CCP Quality Assurance QA Engineering |

I have 3 chars running on one client.
I have 2 gig of ram, with EVE running I use 1.7gig of ram. My game seems to get laggy after about 4 hours running, so I reboot. I don't use the new graphics as I don't thing my card could cope (x1800xt, 4000+ amd, 2 monitors, res set high)
I'm not sure if at 1.7gig ram usage if my performance is getting compromised but it seems ok.

Try to set a fixed size on your swap(page)file, don't let windows decide what to write to disk.
I have 1 gig pagefile with 2 gig ram, and I have none of these problems. I usually run 2 clients in window mode, and my pc is both old and outdated.
Maybe I'm just lucky

Oddly enough, it's quite the opposite for me as to what U all are describing.
In fact since about 2weeks or so I can easyly run 2 clients at the same time, eaven on premium, as of before that (allthough post trinity), I could only run 1 client and trying to open up the second one, would make my whole PC freeze and need to hard-reboot.
I run an Ati 3870 and got 2 gigs of ram, run my 2 clients on windowed 800x600 side by side. I am really happy that it works now, as before I couldn't eaven run 2 classic clients side by side.
Same as most of U I haven't changed any settings or hardware since I noticed the improvement. Only thing I do regulary and since ever is get the monthly new Drivers from ATI. So it really seems as if there are very different behaviours on different hardware configs ...which is pretty wierd in itself ...somehow ...

logged on the other day and my fps had dropped by half and eve was sucking memory like a cheap hooker needing a hit. considering i'd recently spent a fortune and was getting awsome performance only a day before i was rather upset So i thought i'd re-install my client ,downloaded it, installed it and yay high fps. reloaded my settings not wanting to start fresh bm folders etc and bam low fps. Hmmmm i thought ,so removed the settings and then replaced them 1 file at a time. BINGO found one of the files called User_? or character_? (can't remember it atm being at work) was the problem. It seemed to govern graphics settings colours, overview settings etc hope this helps someone at some point

Crikey.
Thanks Sputnik for the Techie assistance.
I've not had particular issues with memory running highest graphics settings, however I just checked my virtual memory which was set to 1594 or something so decided to manually set it to the maximum (4096) rather than let my computer decide this.
Result is an excellent increase in computer performance hehe.
Not tried Eve yet, but other stuff working great! (Or is it just my perception? lol) Thanks!

This. I have a p4 laptop w/ Radeon AND an Amd desktop w/ geforce.. both systems have the same identical problem.
Once my paging file gets too large, eve will sometimes forget to load a texture(white bg or white station/stargate) and bring me to a crawling 1fps. This never happened before Trinity.
I use the Classic client on both computers, have 1gig of free memory, and usually only have a problem when running 2 accounts simutaniously.

Edited by: Jebba IV on 03/02/2008 08:19:35 I run win XP with AMD athlon 64 3500+ 2 ghz ram nvidia GeForce 6800 Series
when I first log on in classic, 2 accounts, everything fancy turned off (audio, cache, etc etc...) I start at roughly 650mb used. after 18-20 jumps on both accounts my page file gets to roughly 1.65gb used. a couple jumps after that my computer will stop, so i have to keep task manager open to see when I am nearing my threshold and need to re-log.
