I initially heard about it back in 01 when they first released it on the EnB forums. At the time I could only afford one game so I stuck with EnB until sunset and forgot about EvE. Than about 2 years ago my buddy showed me some in game stuff and blowing up rats, and some pvp, showed me the articles about the heists and scams and pretty much everything you could think of was allowed. I signed up two weeks later after my paycheck cleared.

Back when I was a DJ for a 'net radio station my fellow DJ's were going on about this game called "Eve Online" so I asked about it and they sent me the link for the 14 day trial.
Just over a year later and I'm still here & not likely to be going anywhere for a very long time

I played the free trail because I was allways a big fan on Space SF games. I droped it for some time after Trail(about 3 Month) and watched a few EvE Vids.
Then Reckless by Farjung hit my HD, about 2 Hours later I was back in Eve it was yust that amazing kind of Vid that I wanted to something like this on my own. I also crosstrained Galente and started to focus fully on maxing out the Megathron(still one of the coolest Ships in the Game by my opinion). ---- Nerf Tank - Boost Gank!

I read about EVE in PC Gamer before it was released and remember thinking OMG that looks cool, too bad I don't have time for things like that.
Two months later I lost my job, guess what game I bought to keep me busy

Edited by: Zothike on 01/02/2008 09:39:57 saw an article about the game that globally said 'incredibly deep but can be incredibly boring too, like when you do mining' And as i was a big fan of 'Space Empire IV' i saw that this game was the only one which will eventually develop like it, and i was correct as planetary interaction is coming (prolly not in 2008, but certainly in 2009) Then i started more than 4 year ago, and i remenber still my first money making : 512 isk by selling a full load of velspard i mined in my Ibis ^^

I bought EVE when it came out on retail (I still have the box ). At the time I just didn't get it, and it disappeared into the attic.
A while later I was splatting some orc or something in WOW pretty bored with the relentless grind. I wandered off and rummaged through the attic for something else to play - and found the Eve box. Of course it wouldnt load up from the CD but I found the forums and d'loaded.
I figure there's a bunch of orcs still stood around waiting for the guy to come back..

I googled "spaceship online game", sure there must be an online version of EV Nova out there...
The wiki I found led me to many games, but Eve was the one I had been looking for since the original release of Escape Velocity. Pity I hadn't looked harder...

Same old story. Played Earth and Beyond until the asshatsa at EA shut it down.

So I loaded up the kids and jumped through gate to EVE just before the gate collapsed.

While browsing for other MMOs when I was closely following Neocron when Eve it was first announced, even beta tested Eve. I remember when people used to threaten to get THE tristan if you didnt leave their system in beta.
I didnt play for launch though because neocron really left a bad taste in my mouth with mmos.

When I was at college 4 years ago someone I had just met showed me a fan vid and a few weeks later with nothing to do I downloaded it and started the free trial with a buddy key he sent me.
Subscribed the 2nd day into my 2 week trial and spent a year and have been playing on various characters since Jan 2005 now.
I've tried to stop playing many many times and have been unable to. Always end up coming back. I've come to the conclusion that it is impossible to stop playing EVE.

It was 5 years ago while playing EnB.
An EnB corp member persuaded a few of us to sign-up to Eve as soon as it was released, back in May 2003. So my Jenquai Explorer headed off for the Eve universe and I haven't got out of my starship since.

I'd heard little things about it in random places on the interwebs, especially when I was considering picking up Anarchy Online (ended up not getting it and going with City of Heroes as my first mmo instead). Then the Guiding Hand Social Club heist article in PC Gamer refreshed my interest, but at the time I was still heavily into City of Heroes. About a year later, a few of the CoH people I played with went to Eve, persuaded me to get a trial and the rest is history. Finally cancelled my CoH accounts last month after 3+ years, the last year+ having been largely inactive due to Eve addiction.

I don't recall. Maybe a friend mentioned it, maybe I stumbled across a link somewhere. I'm pretty sure it was in December 2002 though. Checked the site, figured out what the game was about, got intrigued. Checked some screens/artwork, listened to the music. "Yep, this is it. My first MMO". Pre-ordered it as soon as I could.

One of the forums I frequent has a fair few members that play Eve, and after listening to them talk about it for ages, I finally decided to give it a try. A year later, here I am, finally starting to figure it out -- Aeran Hermas

I got it in January 2004 when PCGamer (UK) put it on the coverdisk. Must of only had about 6000 players per night average - fairly sure that that coverdisk dramatically increased the number of subs cus we broke 10k very soon after. (if my hazy memory serves me well - cba to check facts)
Long time ago now.

Edited by: Serin Shadowstalker on 01/02/2008 16:41:51 I found this article on digg about 7 months ago now. I had quit WoW about two weeks before and was still raiding with my EverQuest guild. I was also playing Planetside and beta testing Tabula Rasa but was very bored with all of it.
Epic fleet battles sounded sweet and I was looking for something PvP based that wasn't another fps. I paid for the first month on day 10 of the two week trial and found a nice empire griefer corp in my time zone to learn to pvp with.
While I haven't seen any fleet battles yet I'm totaly addicted.

Edited by: Buxaroo on 01/02/2008 17:26:24 After SOE sodomized me when the NGE hit Star Wars Galaxies, I quit the game like a bad habit. And I am a die-hard SW fan so it goes to show you how ****ed off a lot of people were whne it happened. So I went looking for another MMO. Tried Everquest 2...so god damn boring it hurt. Elves. Trolls. Dragons. Meh.
I wanted something sci-fi so I went a lookin' and happened upon EVE after finding they had a trial. I had tried it around the beginning of the game but at the time I was new to MMO's and SWG swayed me. Been playing it ever sense I got my first taste of PVP and how awesome it is to anything in the MMO market to date.

Played EVE a few times in the past, but on dialup and a slow computer it wasn't so fun, so I dropped it each time after a month or so.
Last year read the article about the GHSC heist and came back for a look around, was still on dialup so it took a day to patch, then I accidentally restored my HD to a save point. Faced with having to spend a whole day downloading again I quit again.
Got EVDO broadband and a new computer. For some reason WoW will not run properly on it, so I quit MMORPGs for a while, then signed back up for EVE after seeing the Trinity ads and found that it worked great on my new PC and EVDO.
I intend to stay this time.
After reading this thread it looks like the Guiding Hand Social Club Heist was a great marketing tool.
