Americans believe they invented the lightbulb, television, motorcar, jet engine (we realy hold a grudge over this one, the USAF wanted to pool resources, they had nothing we had a proto, took the proto and said it was too secret to share with the Brits ).

Jet engine = German. Sir Frank Whittle was good, but not that good.
Oops, called Frank John by accident. Damn Whittles.

And they will probably NEVER manufacture the final, finished product once its developed.
What would be the point of that when you can turn the final product over to someone like Lockheed Martin or United Defense and deploy it on multiple platforms throughout all branches of the military?

Yes this is true, the goverment funding for Whittle stopped after they failed to keep interest, however years later his engine design was used. The first jet plane was though indeed german, even if Whittle did start work on his before.

Well, given it's a British company assume that even if the US is the client that Britain will have the technological knowhow to build it's own rails aswell. The US get's the guns, we get the patents.

Its just that the people who run britain will refuse to pay for it, nothing to do with which country the company who owns the pattents/blueprints is in I'm afraid. The Brits could of gotten this done instead of building a new generation of nukes but no, they chose the less useful route of a weapon that will only ever be used once, thats more expensive to maintain etc. etc. etc. ---

I can see it now.
dude, the return of the battleship and dreadnaught perhaps?
if in the railgun world bigger = better, you would want to slap a few big ones on the biggest platform possible.
and considering the stress that each railgun barrel is fated to have, a ship needs to have a large storage area, or at least a competent repair/recycling facility to grab on the used barrels and make them functional again.
also considering the mainframes for the targetting computers and such.
and the size of the reactors needed to power the railgun alone, nevermind backups and auxiliary ones.
it will be like it was back in the WWII, but instead sea battles being made by cruisers and heavy cruisers at 10/20km range, we will have battles made at 100/200km range.
Only diference is, you can't blow up a behemoth by slapping a bomb in their ammo storage area now ---

depends of the slug actually.
if you fire one that is sharp and small enough, it would be so fast and entering so hot that you would gain a new hole from one side to another and totally cauterized
now, if you're shot by something, let's say, a 88mm sized one, you would be pretty much transformed into a pulp. literally. ---

Think micrometeorites in space They don't kill you, you might not even notice they hit you, but the loss of air sure does suck.
