A super indy class with giant cargo hold, but unable to pick up cans, you can load and unload them in stations.

sounds like an afk miners wet dream. If you cant pick up a cans, afk mining is about all that would be good for.

It would be useful for moving very large quantities of ore/minerals from station to station, to sell them/build things with themm

Just how exactly are you planning to justify the fact that a "super industrial" with (for arguments sake) 100k cargo space not being able to load up cans but old industrials with only 5k cargo space can?

Well the idea is wonderfull and maybe more important that most people think...
And i think that the titan class ship that are coming will give an answer to that :)

maybe the ship could be so incredably unagile that it would take like 1 minute to come to a stop and turn around, this way no one would use it for picking up cans. Then with the exception of entering warp it would still be ok for hauling the minerals to and from stations. I'm looking forward to tech 2 industrials, I want an Iteron Mark V II so I don't know if that would be a mark 7 or 10 ?

Your idea is full of beans and corn. However, a ship along these lines that can transport packaged ships would be useful.

If you dont mind, what are you flying? As far as I can tell, the largest Indy is the Iteron Mk V, which has a base og 6000 m3 and 5 lows, so taking this to 32000 would take an increase of over 400%
It might be me not knowing, but are there really cargo expanders that large?

Edited by: Deva Dimentia on 31/03/2004 11:01:50 Iteneron Mark V has 6000 m3 base before skill, 7500 m3 after skill adjust it, for a Iteneron Mark V to get the 32,000 m3 space, a person uses 5 27.44% cargo exspanders and 8 huge secure cans.(Each huge secure can adds 900 m3 in extra space.) For a super Indy to be probly considered (that isnt a titan if the base know stats are correct)it probly would have no high slots 3 mid slots and 8 low slots the base cargo could probly be 40,000 m3 but have a base speed of 120 m/s to make the option of haveing high cargo and low speed or normal cargo but decent speed if nanofibers 1 are used. Skill to use would probly have to be high (Mabey requireing all 4 indy skills to lvl 4 to use) and the manuvering would probly be in the battleship class (Namely a dead duck in water in turning.)

I edited your suggestion stats to something more usefull =)
Super Industrial #med slots:4 Capasitor:800 Powergride:150
Then it should be able have fitted 3 10MN ABs, a shield booster and not run out off cap fast.

1 highslot - non turret or launcher 3+ mids 3+ lows
300 cpu 300 power grid 750 shield hp 1,200 armor hp 1,000 hull hp 20,000 base cargo 50ms base speed would be largest model in the game. -------------------- The Nest

this wwould help ships manufacturing/selling, since you could build few at a station with available manufacturer slots then move the ships to a highway system for sale. we need that since HG systems are overloaded now.

I like the idea of new industral ships but I think they should be made for traveling. Something like 5 m3 cargo, 3 low, 3 med, 3 high. (one missle launcher, 2 turrets) with armor/shields comparable to a cruser.
be good for moving items around and at least have a chance to run a blockade.

i believe a indy able to defend itself is not in ccp plan, that doesn t enforce the cooperation spirit of the eve game. But a big super indy able to move things between different station would improve dramatically the access to the market for a lot of corporations

Umm theres no real specs on titans right now so theres no way you could know how much they hold....The ones you see at different websites or whatever are just placeholders. And who says the devs could change the specs of them even if you knew what they were?

Many larger irl vechs can only be loaded with help. like an industrial dumptruck needs a crane to help it. but a garbage truck has it's own forks for picking up the dupsters.

Yipeee and with expanded cargoholds it could really go fast.. weeee.. 10m/s.. only 25 minutes to reach the star gate.. only a day to freight something to some neighbour region...weee...fast... Faster than NASA but way slower than ever

Edited by: CrashOverride on 08/06/2004 06:01:19 I didnt read all of this string, but he has a great idea... but needs a bit of modification. This "Super Indy" Could be a special class of indy, but only allowed to hold ships. This way, a user could transfer his/her ships much faster and not have to worry about leaving one behind and having it clutter up his/her assets tab. Obviously, people will exploit the thought of using a couple of indys and just opening the cargohold and stuffing crap in there, so while a ship is within this "Super Indy" its cargohold will be locked, as will the "Super Indy's" cargo hold too (That Way AFK Mining Doesnt Occur). This way, they cant go out into space, and just start popping 100km¦ worth of ore into it. IT will however allow them to load ships who's cargo hold has stuff in them, allowing the pilot carry a butt load worth of items from one base to another, this way corps may move main bases easily. The arrangement of high/med/low slot will be as follows.
Level 1= 2 High Slots, 3 Med Slots, 3 Low Slots Level 2= 3 High Slots, 3 Med Slots, 3 Low Slots Level 3= 4 High Slots, 3 Med Slots, 3 Low Slots Level 4= 4 High Slots, 4 Med Slots, 3 Low Slots Level 5= 4 High Slots, 4 Med Slots, 4 Low Slots
Also, for each lvl obtained, a 10% increase in agility and speed will be received. But this increase will only apply while flying a "Super Indy"

Yeah, they really need a way to transport ships. They also need to make some of the ships smaller, especially shuttles and frigates. I mean, lets face it an indy is a hell of a lot bigger tahn a shuttle/frigate, yet you can fit only 2 shuttles or (maybe) one frigate in it? Come on... _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |

Actually you can carry 5 shuttles but still few frigs in a mkV with 5 27.44%'rs on it. that's 25211 m3 in one lump.

All this discussion and no mention of a carier specific ship? ...if would not mind haveing a ship with 1000 m3 and have it be fast also. Think of it as a Wells-Fargo armored car. I want something that I can harden and it still be semi-fast and agile.

What about needing lvl5 hull expansion, armor expansion and indy construction for an extra lowslot lvl 2 indies and higher? Might give dedicated haulers an edge. And penalty would be giving up one high slot. Or a reduction to power output since then you can fit a 10MWD on a ItV together with WCS. (and 5 low slot powerboosters)
A transport frigate might be a nice idea as well. Having too little high slots for mining (since it would become an uber mining frig) and nerfed CPU. But base 600 space and 3 low, 2 mid and 2 high. Reduced speed but better armor. No drone bay. And the ability to fit a large container with cargo expanders. ___________________________ Favorite bumpersticker of the month: My head hurts! |

What is needed is the inbetween, and the ship type thats only for shipping.
No Highslots, at least no turrets. Hence no AFK mining. 5-10 times the current cargo hold standart.
And could only carry packages, and CANS need to ba fixed so they could be added to packages.
This would create a logostic fix that is so badly needed.
The other types of ship talked about in here is nothing new, its just better versions, and tech levels of the current functions. The TITAN is not even close to fixing anything, its cost will be way to high, because it will be able to carry function modules of special sorts, as it has been planned all along.
There is a serious need to quit picking our noses, and talking personal wishes. This ship type is needed for the single reason of adding what has been missing since day 1. Good logistic options to the game, and ships doing preplanned routes and having good escorts to ship peoples stuff from locations while they are not actually online themselves. This would highly improve the general economy and item availability. The market would really start some serious movements, and bulk orders and supply would be a natural addition to the game.
Here is for hope, that ccp will see the light and need for this.
