First off, this is my very 1st post on these forums so please be cool.
I guess you all know about the sci-fi term "Wormholes". Was thinking about this one day and I think I've got an idea that can be qute easily implemented into the game if the Devs think it be a good idea.
"Random" wormholes!
Works like this: During downtime, Devs add wormhole(s) to the "world" that work exactly like stargates but with different graphics. There should be no way you can know where the particular wormhole(s) lead to (thus not scannable by any means). Only way to find out would be to go through the wormhole(s). When the first person to go through the wormhole(s) finds the "other end" he can spread that "bookmark" to the rest of the universe. The wormhole(s) exist for as long as the Devs like and could be anywhere between 24 hours to perhaps a couple of weeks. Thus enabling travel from one end of the universe to the other with one jump. The risk involved in "moving" a lot of stuff would be that you could all of a sudden end up with the wormhole closing and you can't get back again unless you go the "old-fashioned" way.
Simple yet quite cool "feature" IMHO. It would involve a lot of different elements like the risk of going through (without knowing where you end up) and after that how to best utilise the wormhole until it closes (which you don't know for sure when it'll be either).
Anyone else think this would be a cool idea?

As a concept, I have to say, I do like it.
There are obvious risks in being "worm-holed" anywhere in New Eden....sitting there with a head full of expensive augmentations in a shuttle....and suddenly you're in 0.0....eeep!
I think however, they'd make a pretty cool feature if they were incorporated as a "potential random risk" into the likes of lvl 4 agent missions. You'd really only be doing these types of mission in HAC or BC or above, and usually in a gang (I'm not speaking for everyone here, I know the more exp. players can do them solo), so hence the odds for survival are increased in the event of a worm-hole.
If the potential to end up in 0.0 exists, perhaps the max that you'd go into bandit country would be 3 jumps...giving you at least a fighting chance to get the f outa dodge.
I think a bonus from the agent, in the event of a worm-hole to 0.0, would be in order too....one that would be worthy of taking the potential risk in the first place.
This way, at least, the only way you could end up going through one of these worm-holes is through a certain degree of calculated risk. You also would have the option to decline the mission if you felt you're not in the mood for a random warp, as the mission brief would have to state that the potential for a worm-hole exists at the co-ordinates you're given for your encounter.

I like the idea, and would like to see them as exploration content. Like an interstellar acceleration gate, if I'm reading you right.
But the first time one spawns that beams you to a 0.0 alliance's outpost system, bypassing their camps, CCP will have an inbox so full of rage that the fire will be visible from outer space.

This is a scenario that I didn't think of but at the same time I don't think anyone should be able to control a system to the extent that anomalies cannot appear.
Personally I would love something like that because it opens up a completely different game for the parties involved. Being in 0.0 space is risky as it is but I still don't think that any developer would deliberately place the "end" of such a wormhole in a region already "controlled" by some kind of syndicate.
I haven't played this game for too long but I doubt that all the 0.0 systems are controlled by an alliance or corporation. There's simply too many systems and too few players for that to happen IMHO.
Anyways - I need more attention to this idea and I hope to get more "feedback" on this idea so keep the discussion alive.

Could make for some amusing moments if one was made publicly known for a couple day period (if they lasted a few days at a time) and you get "wormhole camps" on the low/null sec side of the wormhole.
If you were 1st to discover it.. it could make for amazing shortcuts from hi sec to null sec would be interesting way to get freighters in and out of null to hi sec.
I think exploration should be only means to locate one.. and I also agree the wormholes should dance around all over the galaxy.
I think it would be a cool little addition to the game. As long as wormholes randomized somewhat frequently and were only detectable for explorers it would minimize exploitation of them. After all.. EVE did get "cloaking ships" lol so why not wormholes too. :)

I thought about this the other day, and I would like to add, that if wormholes were to spawn, they could be given different coloring indicating how fresh or decayed the state of the wormhole is.

Wouldn't that "spoil the fun" of not knowing when the wormhole is about to close?
Anyhow part of your idea could work if it is like between 1 minute and 1 hour until the wormhole is actually going to collapse, then the graphics could change somehow. This difference would however involve a LOT more programming and shouldn't be included in a 1st release if any.

I think that if Wormholes lead to hidden and huge exploration sites, maybe something on par with like an entirely remote system with no star gates linking to it that you could explore and exploit what you find there would be awsome. It would definitely thrust Exploration into a new level.

Doesn't look like there's enough interest in this idea or it might just be the fact that there's so many different ideas suggested on these forums that this Wormhole-idea might be forgotten.
Comon folks, more discussion is needed if this is going to become a feature or not.

Some variability and enchantment could provide with some alternate "physics", experimental rats and modules that could cause some danger factor (and bounty) when travelling through wormhole(s). They could also be serialized with some probability that wormhole-tripping just wouldn't be an easy and sure shortcut between places without any drawbacks.
But that would need another Sisi with all those extra programming and work. Easier would just put a new plex or mission.

Would you like to elaborate on that, Tekola?
We also need a lot more attention so keep the discussion going.
