Edited by: Preya Halxyon on 04/02/2008 14:23:22 I was doing Level 2 Quality -17 missions in Umokka when I checked the map to see if I could do higher quality missions and find if I fly to Tasabeshi I can do Level 2 Quality -12 missions.
I fly over and get a mission and warp to the acceleration gate and activate it and the minute I arrive I'm swarmed by ships I'm doing little damage to while they do loads to me as well as use ECM's to break my lock on them.
Is there some sort of diffculty spice over Level 2 Quality -17 I should be aware of? Have I selected a mission that requires a gang without realising?

Edited by: Durzel on 04/02/2008 14:24:07 Difficulty is linear by level regardless of agent quality or what you're flying.
That said there are definitely some missions that are harder than others and this is usually (but not always) reflected in the payout (e.g. Worlds Collide, Extravaganza, Blockade, etc)
What are you flying? From your description it sounds like you might be trying to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut (i.e. flying something that's much too big for the mission)

I popped on to check the mission name to see if it was a hard one and then I noticed the objective :O
Quote: Recon (1 of 3)
Mission briefing I'd like you to do some reconnaissance for CBD Corporation, my friend. Our operatives in an outpost within Tasabeshi have requested a convoy of goods, through some pretty hostile territory. There are a few routes we could take to reach the destination, and you're going to help us find the safest route.
All I need you to do is scout ahead and see if there are any pirates, rogue drones or dangerous terrain. Report your findings to me. I'll upload a bookmark to the first area into your NeoCom.
Overview and Objectives The following objectives must be completed to finish the mission:
Objective Scout the deadspace areas, then report back to your agent. Destroying any pirates found in the area is not a requirement!:
So I guess that's why it was so difficult.
I guess I need to buy a cloak and a microwarp drive :)

For level 2, you can complete recon 1 of 3 and recon 2 of 3 in a shuttle.

Also, I recommend trying 3 of 3 in a shuttle just to get used to it. Don't take something slow and expensive in there without knowing what it does.

I remember when I did my very first lvl 2 mission (-18 or so) and I had done lvl 1's before. All excited in my Caracal I flew to the mission area to be greeted by well over a dozen Moa's, Feroxes and whatnot. I was like...wtf??? A single Ferox bounty was worth more then the mission reward! Naturally I barely escaped with my life since it was a deadspace area and was forced each time to warp in the center of it so I cancelled it.
I did a different lvl 2 mission later on and it wasnt that much different from lvl 1 so Im geussing certain lvl 2 missions just spike in their difficulty.

Oh yeah...i remember that mission. Lost a good 3 ships on it (hurricane, rifter and shuttle). I guess my main mistake was to actually draw aggro from the other ships. I wonder if I had just flown in in my shuttle on the first try and not aggroed anything if they outcome would have been different.

Recon 1/3 - just get to and jump through the accel gate (then run like crazy for the station) Recon 2/3 - Just get close to the locked accel gate off to the side (then run like crazy) Recon 3/3 - Move fast, tank hard. This one can also pop pods. No enemies to kill, just ever-increasing damage waves that must be withstood, with a final blast of 1200 raw damage. (Damage is split over all 4 types) If you get to the accel gate before the last blast, so much the better. Zip through gate, Mission Accomplished. _______________________________

Ya Recon is nasty... Just run through gates... do not engage rats. Engaging the rats is a bad idea in recon. There's also a mission in which you can get warped into some kind of wreckage in a L2 (The name escapes me)
If you get caught in the wreckage in that L2 your done for... no chance to get out no matter where you click + your webbed by a tower. At least in recon if you just run for the gates you'll be fine.

Yeah that lvl 2/3 mission where you investigate the wreckage should always be done in a shuttle.
And recon 3/3 will not pop your pod, at least in level 2.
