I think it's a project jointly funded by governments across the world to safely channel the destructive behaviors of people suffering from various anti-social personality disorders.
So yes, I'd rather not tell people I play this "game" for fun. :-)
Seriously though, I never mention this or any of the games I play to my non-gamer friends. They don't ask. I don't tell.
Eve seems pretty tame next to GTA, Saints Row, and even HALO/CS/Modern Warfare/BF etc.

Yeah, but....I think you miss Serene's point, and you further do what she's pointed-out. Who cares if people give you weird looks? They're weird people. What other looks do you expect? OR, do you seek their approval? "...people put you in the nerd catagory...." WHO CARES about people who catagorize people? They're fools! Or, do you seek THEIR approval TOO? I'm six-foot five, I weigh an athletic 225 pounds. Anyone gives ME a weird look...well, let's just say they don't dare. But, again, you seem to think this society and their reaction to you should govern your decisions about life, and that's just a **** poor shame. "...not accepted as a serious hobby for adults..." I just goes ON and ON...so she's right - cultural enslavement. I don't have to cast a stone at you. You're doing alright on your own. signedAn unapologitic does-what-he-wants and screw you type person
oh don't get me wrong, I also don't longer care, but at some point I did. I was just curious how my fellow EVE players handle it, without any deeper meaning or jugdement. I used to hide it. Then, I realized there were other gamers out there (more than you think) that are hiding their own gaming behaviors . At this point, I don't hide it, don't care, and routinely talk to others about their own gaming behaviors and we have a jolly ole time. If people don't like it they can *bleep* off those self-righteous *bleeps*.
Now the only trick is to find a woman who likes gaming like I do. They aren't very forthcoming about it. |

Theres no reason to hide it but people that dont play or have NO clue about it do glaze over if you start talking about it.
So no I dont hide it but I dont go out of my way to scream I PLAY EVE!! everywhere I go in life. I have been seriously considering buying some clothing but Id love to see more variety in some of the color patterns. Strength isnt measured in numbers but in force of will. I don't have an EVE addiction but I have an unhealthy obsession with pissing off gamers in their forums.
Seriously, it's just too easy, the moment you mention a game being broken SOMEONE is going to throw a hissy fit because they're in denial they're wasting their time on the game staring at fittings and spreadsheets all day or getting more exp for that ability they want so badly.
If you want to work, go and get a job, stop trying to ruin games for everyone else.

It is your incompetence about the game you play that pisses people off. Not the fact that the game is broken. Most games are somewhat broken and EVE is not an exception. However, it is not broken the way you see it.

Games in general are quite widely accepted as modern adult hobby up here in Finland.
Funnily the most common comment I get from both gamers and non-gamers regarding EVE is that it's "
Quote:Oh EVE :o Way too addictive, I wouldn't dare to try, it would suck me in completely".
Can't argue that, tbh.

Should i just print the manual and a guide and give it to them when they come up with that bullshit? "Its to difficult Steve, im not wanting to learn it first" --> ****, here is a manual and a guide.. now stop bitching and go gaming!

I have successfully hidden my various MMO / gaming addictions for years.
I hate it when people talk about games in public, because I straight up do not want to hear about your "totally awesome rogue where you just stealthed and TOTALLLLLY BACKSTABBED SOMEONE" or the "epic headshot from the guy who just ran down the tunnel lol"
I find it extremely difficult to have a decent conversation about games when not playing them, and think it tends to alienate the people in the room who *don't* game. |

This thread delivers ...
I am not ashamed of it. And I certainly do not try and hide it. It is a hobby, one that I take very seriously. I spend on average between 50-60 hours a week playing it. The important thing for me is to balance it out with staying in shape. So, 3 times I week I go to the gym for an hour at a time working out my frustrations.
Surround yourself with friends who enjoy the game as much as you and you will never have to hide your love for EVE again.
Its an escape, its a release, its a choice that we all make. Just like smoking ... and we are expected to be ok with it just because someone says its their choice. Well ... EVE is my choice. So stfu and go play wow :P
The hate is strong in this one xD

Most of my friends know I play EVE. It's no secret.
If I played WoW, I might be more likely to hide it.
But a lot of my friends (all the guys anyway) play video games. Several of them have ps3's and have actually been coming to me about Dust 514 and if I know any EVE corps that will be getting involved in PI warfare.
If you are ashamed to tell your friends you play EVE, maybe you should get new friends. I'm a video game nerd, have been my whole life. I attribute it to my dad bouncing me on his knee as a baby while he was playing games on his computer |
