If they want to give an award to a game where midgets and trolls run around in pink sunhats and horribly mismatched clothing all the time, more power to them.
It's an MMORPG for the masses. Kinda like romance novels and reality television. ________________

EVE deserves no such award so long as Fleet fights can't occur without crippling lag, be it by making EVE capable of handling 500 vs. 500 battles, or by somehow limiting / spreading battles out.
WoW has like umpteen million people playing. Quite frankly, they can have their awards if it keeps that much riff-raff out of EVE :D ----- You're not what you are, you're just what you do! So it ends with their butts and it starts with your shoe! - Awesome Car Fun Maker |

Yea guys, i mean.... COME ON FFS...
Eve vs WOW should have been like... Goons vs. BoB or...or... A Maseratti vs a Dacia 1310, or... a ...a Game made for ******** people that like to **** off to dancing elves vs a game in wich every time you undock you worry about your assets and hope to survive, in wich you actually have to use your neurons you know...
Before i watched that video i was SURE Eve would win MMO of the year, it looks, plays, sounds, feels EVERYTHINGS better than WoW bull**** :(
I feel real sorry for CCP, it is not fair to them :(

I guess most will say meh we don't really care anyway, very few seriously gamers give actual weight to these kinda awards to guide their preferences in the game world, alot of word of mouth advertising still influences the world of gaming. So frankly who cares, but if you want my opinion eve didn't really deserve it this year its had a bit of a bad year in my opinion. every patch, no matter how small creates more problems than it solves
did they make the game prettier - slightly - but not worth the problems it created

You know what I think it would add to the game?
I think it would have made me (and a ****load of other players) just a liiitle bit more proud to have chosen Eve as their favourite MMO and not that ******** WoW crap...
And what's wrong with the devs having an even bigger epeen? Frankly i think they diserve to have it because they made the Best MMO of all time...
And it's not their fault if they can't jump 200 years into the future and find a way to eliminate lag for good...
And about 500 vs 500 fleet fights... please...
World of ****craft has tons of servers on which everyone plays, eve only has ONE...
I think we will have to invent V.I.K.I and ma3a and GlaDOS and tell them all to process Eve at once to eliminate the dreaded server lag for good...
And again, it's not the dev's fault they don't own a science fiction server...

boot.ini could just be classed as a mistake (pretty damn good one thou :)) so i dont think that would affect things too much
trinity has been a disappointment for anyone on medium systems (i know it let me down :()
all in all eve is at the point where it cannot develop any further as a game and just doesnt have the instant appeal of other mmos like WOW where time playing is rewarded rather than the ammount of subscriptiions you pay to CCP

If you advertise "large" "epic" fleet battles and your game obviously cant handle it why get an award?

I think that the analogy is still valid.
Wow is a game based not on depth, but on creating several factors that compel you to play whether you're actually having fun or not. You just HAVE to get to the next level. Anyone who has played WoW for a significant amount of time has felt this, a NEED to obtain a level long after they've stopped having fun.
McDonalds food isn't that great, but it's filled with chemical compounds that you can become psychologically dependent upon. Same deal. ---------------- Tarminic - 31 Million SP in Forum Warfare Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.78.2 |

OK, OK, I Admit...
I play WoW and EvE.
Yeah there is a need to grind levels on wow, but it`s the same principle as eve's Skill tree.
With wow, the more effort you put into it, the more you get out of it.. EvE your skills are just as good as someone who plays 30 mins a day to someone that plays 6 hours a day.
Both games are exellent in there own ways..

Awards are popularity contests.
WoW is extremely popular. It has friendly, forgiving game mechanics that allow for a single player of any game-playing experience to pick it up or put it down, and achieve the "Endgame" within a month or two, at the outside. By the time the review period was over, the reviewer was likely raiding Fred the Fantastic for his own copy of the Super Swordly Powderpuff recommended to him in a guide as how to be "end game"
Eve more than likely podded the reviewer, then scammed him out of his assets when he tried to replace his ship, then mocked him heavily when someone posted his killmail to the forums.
I know which game gets my award. ----------------

Doesnt really surprise me. EVE by far has accomplished more and overcome more than WoW ever has. WoW is built off a name, with nothing but cash to throw at tons of coders, publicity, etc.
How many other european MMO's have made it as far as CCP has? afaik not a damn one.

BUT... i ask you this...
Would you prefer to have CCP MAKE YOU PAY FOR PATCHES AND EXPANSIONS? like Blizzard?
Of course, that would guarrantee a clean game with no bugs at all BUT would you PAY for expansions?
CCP is nice and gives us all good stuff for basically FREE, instead of milking us like cows, like Blizzard does to it's WOW subscribers...

Thats a little harsh. In ccp's defense They have listened to their playerbase much more than blizzard. the nerf this nerf that isnt just to **** u off, as a beta player to now i can tell you so much has changed its sick, once i could use torps on a thorax. what about that eh, what theyve done sometimes reduces one ship, but overall theyve done a pretty damn good job. Could you go to work every day and make a decision if 300,000 people howled for your blood. ccp devs do it every day. I dont know about you but in the years ive played, ccp has always worked pretty much like clockwork on thier patches and if you play long enough you recognize a pattern in them.

Yeah, okay. TBC wasn't WoW's first patch. And it certainly wasn't the first major content update. Before TBC, They practically doubled the size of the playable world and added hundreds of new features completely FREE. Might I add they fixed bugs and broken content all the time? Granted, they went the SOE route and started charging for expansions which sucks... but that doesn't change the fact that they didn't for years, and they still put out content updates and patches between major expansions for free.
But while we're on the subject, I'd gladly pay extra if it meant CCP would stop updating the graphics engine and start fixing things that are broken. The sound engine would be a good start. UI optimizations too. Or if they're going to mess around with the graphics, they could optimize what's already there; things like toning down the godawful volumetric fog in deadspace (that can still choke some of the newer video cards to death).Or more options for how we see / hear the game. But this, of course, is just a dream.

And yep, they DO design the game to accommodate all of those for ease of convenience... at a cost ofcourse, heck they even rack up multiple account promotions telling you how much easier life would be
The cost to the player isn't just in the wallet either, it's sad how they have degraded (sorry balanced) the game over the years to accommodate the advantages of multiple accounting (examples above)
Realy, thats something you should bear in mind when you see the industry awards being handed out not the player rigged (sorry voted) one that eve wins over at mmorpg.com every year. Game experience and polish to the individual.
In which case games like warcraft and lord of the rings online will allways win outright, because of the glitz and dazzle that goes with an enjoyable experience that people enjoy.

Everything you listed can be done on a single account with the exception of a cyno alt - which is for cap ships, which were primarily designed for usage within an alliance.
Yes, people who have multiple accounts have an advantage - they can get characters up and doing all of those things faster - but this has always been true in any MMO that balances any of it's content around the "It takes more than 1 character to do something" model. ----------------

The award takes into account the company and most emportantly the game experience on every scale. EVE is far behind in these reguards.

Shame on you all that conserns yourselves about petty awards and other games. A true eve player has no more value of awards from critics then most of us have about the crews on our ships. The rewards will come naturaly. The mmorpg landscape is a war and we have the superior technology, sure it's so new that even ccp tends to rush to operate it without getting all the advanced skills needed while the basic ones are still leveling up,but hey we're all guilty of that too. Stay the course, damn the torpeadoes turn on the nanos, armor, shield boosters and full speed ahead!

Impossible according to bob 80% of eve is attacking them in these types of fleets, so obviously your wrong there.
One time when that happened, the entire node I was on went down. Apparently the resources dedicated to the node that covered our area of space were given to the fleet battle so it wouldn't crash. There were about 25 in my system and we all dropped into frames per minute for about 15 or twenty minutes. Most got kicked. Despite that, they still lagged out based on the storyline posted on the main page.
WoW is for people who want gain without pain so they can be uberleet in their big purple shoulderpads while they dance the macarena as they wait for the next 6 hour raid instance.

One response : Eve is one, or maybe the most, expensive MMORPG actually in this world. So no, the expansion are not free. With time, CCP wins, and extensions are needed to (try to) keep all players in their game.

Bugs (local who don't remember his location, scrollbar bug, BBSODs, etc... two months since Trinity and nearly nothing) and all this nerfs (Shield nerf etc...) participate to make the game more and more frustating with time and give the impression that EVE is out of control by the devs. _______

CCP was just a small time company and made it big.
What a delusional post. When people talk about quality of service, bugs and uptime, suddenly everyone claims CCP is a tiny company doing its best ...
EVE Online: a cold, cruel world where (RL-)rich people replace their losses with GTCs sold to poor students who need to farm ISK to afford their play time ...

Whatever he just said, and this was going to be a bad year for CCP, 40k players is an achievment, but also means that gangs are bigger, lagg is mosntrous, and people just dont enjoy super fleet size that much. it seemed like awesome, but not everyone can afford good systems that can handle the newgraphic in the middle of a big fleet. (300-600)
There is the overcrowding problem, certain good agent system are jsut full of isk farmer, leaving players who want to enjoy pve out of it.
The list is endless tbh, EVE is not as great as it was anymore, it become a team palying game only, with little fun left in solo and small gang squads.
Conquest has killed it.

Add the constant market deflation with each new patch, making stuff one owns less valuable, hence the owner poorer and again required to earn isks and start all over again,
and you got all the reasons why this account will be expiring in 2 weeks, after 8 months, and my other one expired 3 weeks ago, after 2 years.
I'd rather throw 30Ç/month in a trash bin, than spend on this promise-turned-into-crap game any longer. As a matter of principle, to say NO to a company that doesn't want to listen to its customers.

No, Freeze does all of that (except for empire missions, i hate empire...).
No alts here man, and I don't aggree to people that say that you need 2 accounts or more to have money in the game...
I mean, yes, i have ISK problems now and then, BUT i mine in 0.0 for 2 hours and chaching! 100 mil isk to replace the Bs i just lost in a previous battle... and the modules AND with a little bit of extra mining/ratting chaching, i am ritch :)
And as for the guy that said he is quitting after 8 months because he is low on isk every time, i recommend this :
Move your lazy empire loving ass from empire and go to 0.0 i went to 0.0 2 months after i started playing and i never had any REAL isk problems, just 1 or 2 day hickups in my funds after loosing valuable ships and mods in PVP
I even lost ALL my shipstwice and i was broke, well, that's where corporations come in, i loaned money for a new hulk, mined my ass off for 3 or 5 hours and chaching, paid the loan back got new battleship, modules, insurance etc etc...
I didn't check the guy's character in game but i can almost BET he is one of those downright idiots that stay in empire even after 5 or more months after starting the game (MAINS, not alts)...
The only way you can make real money in empire is by trading and VERY high level missions, mining is crap, PVP is crap etc etc...(in empire)
Bottom line: To be ritch in empire you have to be smart and manipulate the market!
So again, i recommend you get off your lazy asses and WORK for your isk... instead of *****ing about needing multiple characters to have suficcient ISK...

In my opinion EvE does not compare to WoW in many aspects, for instance genre, WoW is a Fantasy world MMO, EvE a scifi one, WoW is played on multiple servers across the globe with around 5K - 10K people in each one? ( throwing a random number ) , and how much people is playing EvE Online at the same time, in the same server?
WoW lives much from the past image of the RTS Warcraft: Orcs Vs Humans and so forth, lots of "eye-candy" similar to many other fantasy MMO's but very little substance, off course others may differ from my opinion on this one, but i think the most important point about EvE is the capacity the game has for immersing someone in its own universe.
EvE is the type of game that you either love it or hate it while WoW is the type of game wether you... sincerely like to climb levels and finish it or well whatever, WoW type games bore me to death.
What keeps me a bit from playing EvE atm besides the lag that occurs when 500 vs 500 fight, is the simple fact that something seems to be missing in the game, something like developing the game history, the drama, the backstory, new available goodies and not just nerfs and balances that don't work.
As i said many many times, EvE has everything to be possibly unchallenged for a long time either by its lore or backstory if you prefer, or its game mechanics.
WoW, well its WoW along with many of its clones.
The award imo is just another one in a "corrupted" gaming industry where the "flavour of the month" wins the prize for a time, people need to be a bit more critics and realize that some awards mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. _____________________________________

WoW has like umpteen million people playing. Quite frankly, they can have their awards if it keeps that much riff-raff out of EVE :D
1000 players in one node (that's a couple of megabites of data tranfered from the sever to you IN REAL TIME)....without server lag... do some math....do some server wiki research...and ask yourself...''would a company invest THAT much money in a game''

You know, some people LIKE not having to grind for skills...
And as for "eve is at the point where it cannot develop any further as a game" - WTF? EvE has FAR more potential for expansion than WoW, because it has far more depth, and what you do in the game actually matters.

Your opinions on the matter, gents?
Mine would be : "That's just plain BULL**** ,maaaan >.>!!!111oneone"

First of all I like my devs drunk. :)
Next, I guess I had enough elves, orcs, and D&D to last me a lifetime. That just makes WoW another game I've no interest in. I think the closest I can come to anything like that is Magic: The Gathering.
That said, WoW is exactly what a lot of people want. Blizzard also delivers it very well. If it was my thing, I'd be playing it.
I think they deserve the award they got. Someone told me some months ago that this was just a business, like any other.
They were right. CCP needs to ask themselves what its going to take... or perhaps, they care more about the game than an award?
You could make WoW in space. They've chosen a different path. And that's good... for us.
If they ever win an award like that, they've probably done something wrong.
