After playing eve for some time and being involved in a lot of pvp i am intersted to know:
Who is the best PvPer in Eve? - who strikes fear into the heart of other pvpers?

We could make an event of it. Build a list of everyone who wants to partisipate. Have one non partisipant ref.
Basicly, when one person on the list PK's another, they take the corpse to the Ref. Whoever has eliminated the most people from the list after 30 days is crowned most ha... feared Pk'r in the game.
Kinda like an old west shoot out. No rules, other then get the corpse to the Ref.
(note: The same guy 2 or 3 times shouldn't count... unless you've cleared the list already...)
Oh, and killing the Ref should not be aloud.

Who is gonna know who the best player is really tbh... But of course im gonna name the players who i play with..
people like Zap, Bob, TWD, Omni,Homo Erectus and the other evol guys, People like jexter, fist, Even Lallante as much I hate to say it.
Others are great fleet leaders such as Shrike.
There are so many good pvp'ers out there that we aint even heard of. So its impossible to tell really

pvping is kinda like sports. any given sunday anyone can beat anyone. there's too much that goes into pvp'ing to determine who the very best is. but i'm sure we all know a few corps we just don't wanna pvp against.

ive fought some and i still consider myself a n00b but me and 2 corpmates engaged hyperbaton the other night and he kicked our arses. 
we didnt lose a ship but 1 mate (in a dom) warped away with 2.7% structure. i got out with 50% armor on my tempest and the scorp we had was untouched.
hyperbaton is an awesome pvper ... much respect to him

As Awil said, it's hard to know who's the best. I have fought alongside and against some very good pilots. The one that I think has always stood out the most is Skull HsC. Pre-Castor he was an awesome bb pilot. I can't count how many times an enemy thought he was in a scorpion. He couldn't even fly a battleship back then

Pretty much, though I must admit a CCP sponsored event would be pretty cool. Not just for amarr or whatever but for all the empires. To make it a little more interesting have it be done in cruisers or battleships. CCP can simply refund the player their losses

It all comes down to setup and setups can always be countered.
Even I can score some kills if my opponent has a crappy setup
Thats what is so great about it all.

This is a stupid comment....PvP is all about your ship against someone elses for pride, now what is so fun about getting ur ship back when you lose it? Losing your ship is part of what makes PvP exciting. I know for me I love the feeling of being in a battle knowing that I could lose it at any time...your idea on the other hand would suck the life out of PvP...

way to not understand my post, pending the reward or what not and how many people would risk a bs, that was an idea on how to get people to come out. No sense holding another frigate event they dont proove to much. Hold a bs or cruiser event and really find out what people can do. Also yes a 1 time event, get the pvpers to come out with either a huge carrot or some sort of insurance their attempt wont be 100% in vaine.

Ive met and fought lots of players in this game who are very very good at PvP! As for the best? Well I guess the only way to sort that would be to have a competition! Even then loads wouldnt enter who might be better!

@ Fairlane: I think Darth meant that due to all the rumours going on you can never be sure whether those are the original players. I however believe that they are or at least hope they are because I think anyone should earn by themself what they have in this game.

No because best lists are opinions, even if you had a list the best can still be beaten which is what the saying always someone better then you means.
Mohammed ali is thought by many to be the best boxer ever, yet he was beaten by other boxers, does that make them the best?
(in that case the best boxer in the world was Rocky Marciano, undefeated in his whole carreer and heavywieght champ) Though i am biased :P
Someone like zap only got fame because he was in a cruiser pretty much first and then a bship pretty much first. Tank is famous for similar things and blames freinds glitches when he loses, i wouldnt class this as great. When you fly by a gate in your battleships just see how many pirate frigates you can take you on your way to the gate.. then you will realise how mighty these type of players are'nt.

BTW I think TWD deserves a mention I have seen him get some amazing kills, but like everyone says there is no best as sometimes it is the luck of having the right setup and the only skill is running when you dont.

Well Monica I did say that if you could rank them according to their greatness. To put it on more familiar terms for me then we can¦t compare Pele and Zidane (soccer players) because they didn¦t play at the same time. Soccer has changed a lot since Pele played. Anyway I was just being annoying .
What makes a pvp player good is also to know when to retreat and Tank seems to have that pretty much covered. At least it is considered newsworthy when he is finally killed.

You can compare Zidane and Pele, zidane is far better all round then pele was, the standard of football was far lower then, hence most world class players now are better then pele ever was. Pele has just played in more world cups then most players now will ever manage because the level of competition is so high. He is only the greatest to those who look on the era with rose tinted glasses
The best pvp would be the one none of you mention, they dont shout out thier own names, they dont gank easy targets caus they have low bordom thresholds or just because they can, they dont have an army of 12 year old fanbois loving them just because they do "naughty stuff" So the best pvp will never be in this list...

this game is full of chance though, diff loadouts, guys fitted for range, its mostly just luck, if u meet some1 that cancels out ur setup, u will either flee or die, does that make the other guy a better PVPer?, prob not.

If you got a really <censur> day it will probably make some serious impact on the outcome. Had days when turrets seems to do almost no damage at all and at other times they wreck for over 1k damage. (Without changing set-up or range.)
But one pilot I had "respect" for was Karnah from BOS, don't think he is still in the game though...

this game has about 25 thousand subscribers.
i could list about 100 ppl who are awesome pvp'rs who could all beat each other, on any given sunday. i will of course be giving propz to the guys in m0o and evol because i have flown with/vs them more than anyone else in this game.
any given sunday.
I would also like to note, that kills != skills.
If ccp ever makes a kill list, that ranks players by the number of kills they have participated in, it will be thought that those people are the best.
Jumpgate had a system like that, and while players who are pirates and sit around kiling everything in site are generally good at pvp(but by no means are they always good), they may not be anywhere near the top of the heep.

as long as i can remember. i have been alone. fought a war one vs 5 member corp we was in cruisers back then. i won 5mill off it. fought scarzz idiotsminions. in cruisers that was a war too i was alone. then fought gift corp i was alone too. then every started sayin i pirate so i pirate them might as well.. i was alone too... then i started ganking people out of madness... they judge me so i judge them... and yea i was alone too... and still now sorta'
only way to kill me is to ban. me cuz i wont let you have me. died twice. only 3rd time is a charm which i am not letting no one******me.
i have meet GM white. he came n visited me. n changed the sentrys numbers in .1~!!!! to 4 sentrys. but i aint complaining. he did mention Lord Zap to me though. even though i have no clue who it was or if he still play... but yea there is alot of pvper out there. im just one of them so few... i guess

You can only nominate people who you have flown with or against, I suppose.. the others are only by reputation.
In terms of PvP smarts, the guy I would feel most comfortable flying next to would be Homo Erectus. I mean, the guy must have at least a 200-1 kill/death ratio by now (yes, hes only ever been killed once and even that was due to a loading bug). By reputation, I guess people like Ecliptical, Zap etc would have to be up there.

Trev: Cre doesnt suck man ;/ he was just normally very careless about his ships. More careless then me even and thats alot lol. I flew alot with him and he had something very few had back then and that was guts but he also had great tatics. I have fought many good pvpers..i could say EVOL and RUS always gave good fights but many others as well.

There are only 2 guys i fear in whole eve: Jexter and Fist. Who ever fought against them, know what i mean. You can make a 1 on 1 or even if you are 5 on 1 of them, you have to pay attention if you dont want to lose your ship.

I think everyone who has faced Jexter or Fist will know who the n00b is after that statement.
I can't separate Jexter or Fist for being the top PVP'er in the actual game.
However, in a pure PVP competition, it would just come down to who could soak up the most damage in my opinion, so guys like tank CEO with their 11 million skill points would kick ass in it.

I can't separate Jexter or Fist for being the top PVP'er in the actual game.
However, in a pure PVP competition, it would just come down to who could soak up the most damage in my opinion, so guys like tank CEO with their 11 million skill points would kick ass in it.

I hear good things about Jexter and Fist but I have never faced them so I cannot pass judgement. WHat I will say however, is that if you have 5 well setup ships pounding on you close to their optimal you will die quickly, no matter how many hardeners you have fitted. Jexter and Fist would surely attest to this also. Thats just the way it is.

If we are still talking about a 5 v 1 situation like was posted then if those 5 ships were well setup they would be packing scramblers so there would be no chance to "wear the aggressor down" and no chance of escape. Say there were 5 m0o battleships and Jexter, now I dont care how uber you say he is we would have him scrambled and dead within the minute easy. Smilarly, any m0o vs 5 Jokers/evol the m0o ship would be scrambled and dead withink the minute. I've fought against the jokers on many an occasion, I don't need to read their website to know their potential.
I've seen them run from more than 5 ships and until you go and fight against the jokers with 5 m0o ships then it's a m00t point. You can only presume that you will catch him.

GunnyP was never in m0o so I dont know where that comes from.
Btw, Ive seen their video, as has TWD, and we agreed that their opponents all appeared quite poor, theyve never had a proper engagement with either m0o or Evolution despite the hype on their website.
The one time they mention fighting with Evolution, SHrike was 3 systems ahead of the main force and so by the time the rest arrived theyd killed Shrike. Then they ran, so hardly anything to write home about.

i have come to the conclusion that i must be the best PvPer in Eve, because ive podded 0rigin (the gracland baboon) twice now, but hopefully 1 more and hell stop his completely unreadable spam on the forums. but truthely, id say Tank Ceo (who is a CEO) is a good pvper ive fought along side hime before and was impressed, also eclpitical, and majin buu, r very good, i cant really so if zap or TWD r good, cos the only time i met zap, he was traveling with duel mwd's and just went past me before i could even take his sheilds, and TWD ive only frought on teh test server, were he tried 2 diff setups on 2 of my setups, and i won both, but i beleav he was just testing diff blaster setups.

TWD and Lord Zap, of course 2 good pvp players would win against 1 good pvp pilot. The point you don't get is that they pretty much know what they can take and what not, having several warp cores fitted makes it very difficult to catch them.
I think a good pvp player is someone who can put a good config on his ship and someone who doesn't make many mistakes, mostly because of his experience.
Btw. TWD, sorry for the last fight on Chaos, I admit, I tried to win the fight by boring you to death ;)

In their video, "all" their victims look pretty n00bish.
And the Jokers are using "standard" setups on their ships. Nothing strange, nothing ordinary.
Thereby not saying that they aren't good PvP'ers.

a good pilot only chooses to engage more than 1 of his own class at a time if he can catch them off balance, or knows something they don't.
i would never engage more than 2 of my own class without securing my own route of escape first.

Everyone with decent skills can do that, if you mean a chaos match, means no running.
On TQ it's nearly impossible to destroy a ship with many warp core stabs alone, you would need to waste med slots for scramblers, having worse defense than your target has.

Once again bringing light to the fact that there is no best pvp'er or 100 best pvp'ers or 1000 best pvp'ers without a strict list of standards to be met.
EVE needs a CS-style 'arena' and you all damn well know it. A controlled fighting atmosphere with a nice DB for stats. There would still be the non-arena mmorpg (the current meaningless, stagnant) aspect as well. Then again as much as I'd enjoy a controlled arena, I'd despise there being a few hundred thousand more players.

Is it though, Mr Dear Iceblock? Who are we to automatically assume a guy is a bad pvp'er just because he dies like 50 times. Let's say for example Abram had a P/W implant, and was training some 25 day+ skill(Large Projectile, BS lvl V, ect). he can beging the training, get podkilled, and he'll stay training at that fast training speed *until* he switches skill training(Only retards do this I hear).
That makes him a pretty damn expendeable character really. Clones are cheap compared to the wonderful prizes one *may* come across while being able to put him self constantly into much more dangerous situations than people with implants would normally bother with.

There are too many good PvP-ers, maybe its better to ask which of them got the most respect
but that again the would make a big list again cause everybody likes someone else more  Maybe someone wants to make a PvP Hall of fame and a PvP Hall of shame for all the exploiters out there

I am a noob, yet I have hung out in 0.0 alot and have seen some awe inspiring fights but I have yet to see a corp with more impressive players then FE or mOo. Lord Zap from what I have seen and heard from my corp mates wrote the book on psychotic PvP fighting but then again as far as I am concerned
you have to be pretty good and pretty ****in' nuts to warrent a 43 million dollar plus bounty. You could go back and forth all day arguing whos better, but you would really get no where so thus you just have to duke it out and see in a tournement.
