EVE TV and EON are nothing but a circle jerk for the 'in crowd'. Hence EVE TV died.
I've stopped EON due to no real content. /start sig I love old characters that post 'I've beeen playing the game four years' when I know their account has been sold on. /end sig |

Don't get me wrong I love the fiction.
I can see why things such as the trading guide would be useful to others.
So as a long term player I get very little out of it. I'm not sure how you would go about producing a good magazine based on such a limited scope.
Elaborate battle reports from FCs? A collection of random player opinions on a subject not another rant from a beta player that doesn't log in anymore.
I'm sure if i thought about for longer than 5 minutes I could come up with something useful.

I may actually sit down and churn some stuff out. You can take or develop what you want. We have a lot of old timers I'll ask them they're a bright bunch, well sometimes...
As for awards. Nominating from the fanfest is bad, not everyone goes for a start and it'll tend be the same old crowd. We need to get away from the clique nature of EVE TV.
Doing it from a forum post is a spam fest. Player nominated just leads to rigging by large alliances who will vote on mass.
A trusted independent figure who is kept anonimous is one way to go, but then how do you ensure impartiality?
A jury of 5 for each category, made up from average Joe players they monitor, interview and post over a period of time and come to a majority consensus? It's inclusive and researched. They could even pose under an ISD type character.

It'd be impossible to find a single member of this community that everyone would agree is 'trusted' in this regard.
Not neccesarily. All they need is some people who are generally trusted and can explain their reasons for their nominations in detail. Bad reasons could lead to exclusion of their vote. You, chribba and myself instantly spring to mind. DS is probably another good choice.
No offense but thats the same old crew again. It's like the movie awards celebs patting other celebs on the back.
Say you want an award for top forum *****. Fling a post up asking for names of volunteers to judge with the criteria they actually read the forum. Pick 5 at random give them some stats from the forums and give them a set time period for a bit of research. If they read the forums they won't have to do too much. Get them to nominate 3 people each, a bit more research on all candidates and get them to do a quick points rated vote with a paragraph for each candidate. Get someone to check it for validity and stupidity and then we have a winner.
Or something like it.

Not at all. Having people who are actively involved with the community discuss and choose people who deserve recognition is about as good as it gets. It's not about circlejerking or voting for your friends, it's about asking the people who are well-informed enough to pick out the exceptional players they can agree on that deserve recognition.
ONLY if for instance you're sat on the panel for best forum warrior are not up for ANY awards including guide writer. To reiterate no one on the council is up for any award ever. Otherwise you're into back scratching territory again.
It happened to EVE TV if people don't learn from their lessons what can you do? Just because people sit their lurking on the forums it doesn't mean they can't be trusted or don't have a valid opinion. I would trust the quite guy in the background over an attention ***** any day of the week.
