Well, mass vote blobbing wins the day mate, and just like combat in Eve it always will.
Aye. I'll go buy some tinfoil, I think I have your address about from when you did the piracy guide for EON.

It'd be impossible to find a single member of this community that everyone would agree is 'trusted' in this regard.
Not neccesarily. All they need is some people who are generally trusted and can explain their reasons for their nominations in detail. Bad reasons could lead to exclusion of their vote. You, chribba and myself instantly spring to mind. DS is probably another good choice.
No offense but thats the same old crew again. It's like the movie awards celebs patting other celebs on the back.
Say you want an award for top forum *****. Fling a post up asking for names of volunteers to judge with the criteria they actually read the forum. Pick 5 at random give them some stats from the forums and give them a set time period for a bit of research. If they read the forums they won't have to do too much. Get them to nominate 3 people each, a bit more research on all candidates and get them to do a quick points rated vote with a paragraph for each candidate. Get someone to check it for validity and stupidity and then we have a winner.
Or something like it.

Not at all. Having people who are actively involved with the community discuss and choose people who deserve recognition is about as good as it gets. It's not about circlejerking or voting for your friends, it's about asking the people who are well-informed enough to pick out the exceptional players they can agree on that deserve recognition.
A straight up vote leads to people voting for their friends, a moderated council where people on the council are forced to provide good reasons for nominations, are generally trusted NOT to vote for their friends, are excluded from voting for people they and are directly connected to or for themselves is a good idea, in my opinion. That's just for nominations, the vote would almost certainly still be public.

Well, at least we can honestly say that the awards are an accurate reflection of what Eve has become.
Unfortunately.

Seriously these awards were weak spam attempts by 2-3 parties last year, and now they're just a joke.
I was beaten to the Guide Writer of the Year last year by a guy who doesn't write guides. I think that says it all, really. Goons zerged the votes.
Actually, he wrote pages on our wiki. A bunch of guys voted for the guy who authored part of the playbook they learnt to play the game from. Or would you rather they voted for someone whose guides they'd never seen or read?

It's still the best site. Also, the front page is GS.com, not GF.com. Admittedly, we're voting completely partisan, but this category was just a huge sign saying CLICK THE BUTTON OF YOUR CORP SITE. Pretty much everyone's corp site is only worthwhile to the members; it's a horrible category.

Never said it had to be official forums.
OK, sure; it's a complete farce, but damned if I'm going to let that stop me going for another cool little award.
Also, my other complaint: where is BRUCE on the newcomers?

ONLY if for instance you're sat on the panel for best forum warrior are not up for ANY awards including guide writer. To reiterate no one on the council is up for any award ever. Otherwise you're into back scratching territory again.
It happened to EVE TV if people don't learn from their lessons what can you do? Just because people sit their lurking on the forums it doesn't mean they can't be trusted or don't have a valid opinion. I would trust the quite guy in the background over an attention ***** any day of the week.

I don't really care about the awards per se (and to some extent they do seem like a circlejerk, but then again i can't see why anyone would take them seriously anyway) but... why so much STK-S hate in this thread?
I mean I'm no longer with them cause I no longer had the time available to really contribute to 0.0 operations, but as a former corp member everyone I knew in there was a good guy. I wouldn't nominate them for best corporation, but then again I wouldn't know who else to nominate if I were asked.
Curious to see why there's so much negativity, but on the other hand I think I'm veering dangerously close to COAD material so I'll just stop here. __________________________________

Personally I dont paticularly care about most/all of the categories, Ijust like pressing buttons. & EON award is a good oppertunity to do that .
That said, I was rather thrown by a few of the nominations, but that aside there was at least one in each category I could bring myself to vote for, or at least recognised the name.
