Yesterday 3-30-04 18:42 GMT I had just bought my brand spanking new MegaThron from Luminaire and flew down to AMI system to do a little 0.4 NPC hunting. A few minutes i'm locked down, warp scrammbled and webbed and taking massive hits from a Pirate named "OmegaTron"
All my shields and armor is now gone and he's working into my structure, then he stops firing!?! I thought maybe he ran out of ammo? Then i get a private convo from him. Now i don't know how to paste a chat log but i'll type what i can remember. sry
OmegaTron - u have 10 seconds to transferr 20mil in my account or u will lose your ship!
L3xcia - stop shooting this is my new ship ( i know...sad )
Omega - 5 secs NOW!
L3x - i don't have any isk i just bought this ship
L3x - stop shooting ( i had about 15% structure and 1 more shot from his torps or cruise whatever he was shooting was going to kill me)
Omega - 3sec find someone who has the money NOW!
L3x - plz don't kill me i have no money ( or something embarrassing like that)
Omega - get out of your ship and i'll give u 50mil that will cover your insurance ( he said something like that)
L3x - but i paid 100mil for it?
Omega - either get out of your ship and take the 50mil or lose your ship and get nothing
(at this point i knew i didn't insure my ship and what he didn't know was that i had on a full set of implant!)
L3x - ok ok stop i'll eject, but how will i know if u guve me the isk?
Omega - u don't
so i took his offer and ejected from my ship and he did give me the 50mil.
P.S. what i didn't relize until after was the 40% insurance u get anyways so i would have got atleast 40mil back if i selfdestructed. owell lesson learned

Yeh but if you had done that he would have podded you and you would have lost your implants as well.
Still it sucks badly.
Would have been cheaper to borrow 20 million though I think.

Wow.. there are truly respectable pirates in the game.. heh and I thought they were all scumbags.. that's a decent story.

That is a great story. This is the kind of thing that makes me glad to be playing Eve. That pirate was so ruthless that he deserves my respect for what he did. I'd take my hat off to him if I had a hat.
On the note of your unfortunate loss, I am sorry that you lost your new ship, but at least you didn't lose your implants and you did get 50mil so it's not the worst outcome I can imagine.
Thinking about the conflict, I can see a better way out of it but it would have required a few snappy, clever decisions that would probably be lost in the heat of the moment. Instead of begging for your life, you could have reasoned with him. If he had killed you, Concord would have come and killed him, correct? The main thing I'm thinking of is that you could have bought a heckload of time by telling him that your structure is too low and that the only thing holding the ship together is your skills so that if you leave it, it would explode. You could then have asked him to wait for a while so you can regenerate your ship enough that it won't explode when you leave and tell him that he has you webbed and you aren't exactly going anywhere. I'm sure he suspected you might have had friends in the system and may have rejected this as a stall for time, but he might have accepted it and waited for a few minutes. In that few minutes, you could have gotten 20mil from a friend or something.
I'm not sure how things liek this work in eve, but as far as I can tell, he was bluffing. If he blew you up, he'd lose his ship too since concord would come and kill him, wouldn't they? I'm probably wrong about that. Could he have blown you up and left the system unharmed?

Ami is a pk hotpot, if you check the map there's always a warm glow when u select ships destroyed in last 24hrs.
Very bad luck - u live and learn..
Look on the bright side though, you have more isk now than if you'd have let him destroy your ship and you still have your implants which you might possibly have lost.

Sorry about your ship loss, but from the story you told me I really cant feel to sorry for you. The pirate in question was honorable and not just out for a quick ego boost. Hats off to him for playing the game in a fair manner.
As for your loss, there are two ways to look at it. You could have not payed him, lost your ship anyway, and had about a 50/50 chance of loosing all of your implants and having to pay for a new clone. Which would have put you out alot more money than what you actually lost. Or you could have ended up the way you did. So look on the bright side of things.
As for wanting to kill him, he got you in a fair manner, so why not spend that 50 mil on a few cruisers and go after him yourself in a fair manner.
Not really trying to sound like a *******, but he played it good, and now its your turn to return the favor back to him in the same way.

@Nyphur: 0.4 doesnt have concord about....only thing that is there to protect u are the sentryguns...but thats it and there are none in belts etc :P
And eeh..L3xCia, check local when u go into anything below 0.5...unless u fly from gate to gate..then ur fine..(in empire space that is..)

most pirates are, few arnt... jsut that they screw all pirates int eh game by giving them a bad name and stuff, still 50 mil is a lot
and you've just made a pirate 60 mil richer, i would rather selfdistruct my ships then handing them over to any enemy...

In a situation like that i think that was a great decision what you did. Many pirates offer but many lie, OmegaTron had class for offering you 50MIL for your ship. Which is alot better then losing your ship, maybe implants and get 40% insurance. But if u had like 1-2 implants then i guess u could have selfdestructed and warp away and recieve 40%.

What was the loadout on your Megathron? It can't have been very well thought out if this guy managed to devastate your shields and armour in so little time. I certainly don't mean to sound like a know it all or anything like that, but I notice that you have only been playing since January, so I wonder whether you have the skills to fly a Megathron into less than 0.4 space and keep it in one piece should you encounter pirates (which is inevitable really). I'm not saying it 'serves you right', nobody likes to lose a ship, but 0.4 and below is pirate hunting ground, don't go there if you aren't prepared to fend off or escape from.
As for adding a bounty to this guy, he's got a 0.3 sec rating, so any bouty would have to be a personal agreement between the victim and anyone taking on the job.
When you get a new ship, think about the loadout before you go bounding off into lower sec space in search of rats.

i couldn't lock on him he was useing some type of jamming device? i have drones but only 4 light drones

Most people want battleships ASAP...I know I did. But thankfully it took me about 6 months to get the cash together to get one, so in the end I had skills and skill levels coming out of my arse by the time I was flying a Megathron. But if I could have got one straight away then no doubt I would have done. But its besides the point...what you need to do is just think about your loadout a bit more. This thread could all to easily descend into a big argument between people who advocate differing loadouts...but if you want to hunt in lower sec space, then its unlikely you will be kitted out to fight player pirates. So throw on a couple of warp core stabalisers. Harden your ship up with some shield hardeners and a booster. And throw on a MWD to get you to the gate in a hurry should you encounter gate campers. Of course herein lies the problem with getting a battleship early on, as your skills may not allow you the power or even just the basic skill req's to run all the equipment you need to keep your ship in one piece.
Unfortunately the 'you live and learn' is very relevant here!
P.S. Having just posted this reply and seen that you are feeling a bit bashed(!), don' feel like that. Its just friendly advice. If you don't feel your corp are able to advise you on a loadout to help you out in low sec space then convo me ingame. I'll be glad to give you some advice.
