Have you ever seen a PvP battle in EvE where one side was winning and an event happened that caused the loosing side to shift the balance and win the engagement?
I am not really talking about calling for reinforcements, but I guess those stories would be cool to hear as well.

Does it count as a comeback if the enemy didn't know about it? :P
I was happily cruising around in my Drake, when I was engaged by a Harpy and an Enyo. I was kinda thrilled because it was long since my last fight, and in the inital confusion I forgot to activate my shield hardeners So, down go half my shields before I notice my error, and even if I managed to save before going below peak regen, I was going down, and I noticed that my damage would not be enough to down the Harpy before the doom...
Having a fairly expensive setup and rigs on it (This was around the time rigs got introduced), I wanted to see if I could save my poor ship, and politely asked in loacal: "Would a ransom be possible?" Obviously I thought my adversaries would have noticed their impending victory as well, but maybe they would want some hard cash instead of the glory?
Then suddenly, the Enyo warps away, leaving his Harpy mate all alone. WTF? Apparently, the Enyo thought they were losing, and in fear of his hide, he ran. Now the Harpy was all alone, and I could happily see my shields overpowering his dps. A few moments later, the Harpypilot answered my message, thinking I offered him a chance to pay for his own hide, and I was 15m richer

After a minute, the mail was able to tank the damage output of the abaddon and kill it easaly. It could have been a good battle but i dont know why the abaddon pilot just stop his reps and guns after a minute of firing lasers though.

I seem to remember that in the tourney in one of the fights, of the sides managed to kill a T1 frigate right off the bat, thus giving them points. The other team managed to hold and neither side was gaining on the other (thanks to logistics ships). The fight was about to time out when the losing side starting mixing up their targets to confuse the logistics ship. It worked and they managed to pop a couple support which led to them winning.

Yeah, I've had someone come back on me. I was in lowsec giving a Rokh fit for ganking a whirl. I actually had a NOS Dominix beaten bad enough he was trying to retreat. I hit the warp scrambler to stop him, and that extra load on my cap was enough to tip the balance in his favor. His NOS overwhelmed mine, and it was a slow slog down to nothing for me.

True Story:
My first solo kill came when I took my T1 fitted hurricane against a PA Ishtar. Confident in my superiority I locked him down and opened fire while I got pummeled by his T2 drones. But I wasn't prepared for the damage those drones could do, and as my armor tank inched towards hull I started to get worried, so I started typing up an offer of surrender and to negotiate a ransom.
I hit hull, 90%, 80%, 70%. I sent the offer. Just as I did, I saw he was going into hull too but I was certain his advantage over me had me beat. Then a moment later he exploded in a brilliant flash of light and his drones deactivated.
I had a Damage Control on, and he didn't. 50% resists FTW.
Epilogue, I scooped up his T2 drones and gave them back to him when I saw him in station. I felt a little guilty about offering to surrender just as I was popping his ship, and the gesture made me feel a bit better.

Third Alliance Tournament, I think it was, where Edge of Sanity fought Destiny.
It was a fairly drawn-out battle, and it had multiple comebacks from each side.
The fight ended with a single surviving Ishkur happily killing a fully fledged Blasterthron (yes, you're reading that right). And then it flew out of the arena with the Megathron below 10% hull.

Put a Myrm into less than 10% hull before a whole hord of remote repping alts had him back up to 100% armor and totally unbreakable.
Best i had was when i fought a Rax in my Caracal, i had dropped right ontop of him and was getting cut up pretty bad by the blaster DPS, but for some reason he had no MWD and i did, deep into armor i was out of his range and by the time he thought to release drones it was too late. A simple example but a good one i think.

Wast testing out my not-complete fitting on my CNR. Went into a belt (note this was right after the torp nerf) spent like 20 minutes staring and wondering why I couldn't do any damage. A vaga warped in on me and started taking me out w/ the help of the rats. After about 1/2 my shield going down I looked at my mods realized my last invul shield wasn't on. Threw it on and started pounding on him till he left.

Happens all the time when ECM is involved.
Soon as a damage dealer becomes non-ecm'd battles can switch very fast as the melty melty begins.
Rather sad that its a random event and in no way to do with what a player did on the battlefield, just some server rolling a dice. --

I was running a mission in .4 and some pirate jumped into my mission area. I warped out cuz I was low on shields, and then I went back because I didnt want him to have all the salvage, and yea, I was bored.
Warped back in and he scrambeled me (we were both in Caracals except mine was fitted for PvE and his PvP) I thought he would have me since I couldnt do anything, so I just locked on him and started firing while he tried to jam me. After a few unlocks and relocks I was actually going into his armor while I was still 40% in shields with a mission cruiser shooting at me. Nonetheless I eventually broke into structure and the pansy ran away I was literally one more volley away from popping him =[.

Gonna take a shot in the dark on this one and say it was the Caracal team VS the drake team where it came down to looking like the Caracals had the fight in the bag only for the drake team to just hold on in the end and take on 3 or 4 of them solo. The sword can only strike one enemy at a time, but tactics can defeat ten thousand men at once. |

A few weeks ago I was in a Hurricane fighting a Harbinger. I was in an injected dual rep setup and he was fielding a rep+plate. He was winning and had me just dipping into structure before I'd rep back up when he suddenly stopped repairing. Turns out he was overheating his rep and didn't watch it closely enough; and it failed. I was eating at his armor, feeling like I was in a good position, when I ran out of cap charges (I had just gotten out of another fight before this one which ha burned most of my charges).
So there we were, me with no cap and him with no repairer, I had a higher percentage armor left but he had more HP than me. It was one of the most tense finishes I've seen to a fight.
He ended up winning at about 20% structure, but I didn't care about the loss of the BC at that point, the fight had been so fun.

I remember taking my vengeance out on a spin once, I got a phone call and warped to a planet at 100, next thing i know ive got a blinky red hurricane spitting out drones The drones get me down to about 2/3 structure before i knew it, I thought i was going to die, his drones just weren't popping fat enough, so i set my autopilot, and got ready to eject.
At about this time i notice hes pulling his drones in, and on the way out i got to pop 2 of em because they no longer had the transversal to avoid my lasers. He redeploys his drones after a quick shield rep, and I get lucky enough to pop 2 more on the way in. Without his drones he a no way of hitting me and the drone that he had on me couldn't break my tank. He tries for another few minutes to break my tank, and then begins to aligning and goes to scoop his drones and i end up popping the remainder of his drones.
After that i was able to throw a point on him and hold him there as i slowly ate away his tank, eventually I popped him Im glad I had my lasers on me that day, anything else would have probably ran out of ammo. (And now my vengeance is a missile boat, and completely useless to me)

I have seen it happen in fights, but it's fairly rare - tipping the balance generally mean the fight has to be fairly balanced in the first place.
And actually, events of this nature do tend to be fairly random - you know what's in your gang, so you usually have a fairly good idea of what's well matched, and your wildcard... you know about, so ... well, you weren't losing you were just baiting.
Seen some quite spectactular stunts pulled off by smartbombing battleships though. One guy I know had a special line in undocking, smartbombing all the tacklers, and warping off laughing.
The most obvious occurance is when the 'balance tip' involves an ambush of some kind - decloaking falcons, or hot dropping carriers can make a significant tilt in the balance of a fight.

i see battles go back and forth all the time, usually small skirmishes, and it usually has to do with ecm or dampers or web ranges.
for example, i attacked a hurricane with my deimos, a mauller and a vaga the other night. the cane has me webbed and is chewing up my deimos pretty bad so i slowly burn out of web range as my armor gets down to about 30%... i'm out and away to 30k or so, but my two buddies can't break his tank and now the hurricane is taking out our mauller. my ecm drones finally bite and the mauller is safe for a bit. i make another mwd run right at the hurricane and the three of us manage to pop him before he can kill any of us.

Edited by: PaddyPaddy Nihildarnik on 14/02/2008 23:50:21 I remember one time during the reconquest of the North by the Coalition I lead a roaming gang of around 10 pilots out on an extended roam through branch and into Dekky. After around 40 jumps and a few ratter ganks we came into one of Sparta's systems (cant remember the name now). We were heavily outnumbered and with all exit points camped out we began the safespot hopping game. After around an hour or so of near misses and mucho boredom, the gang began to thin as people began logging out for bed etc. Myself and a corpy were both left in drakes and he too eventually called it a night, logging off eve and chatting for a bit on ts. I didnt want to get stranded deep in hostile space in a tugboat so I decided to see what would happen. Local count remained high.
After a legitimate ctd I thought, ill log back in just to see if local has dropped. I warped back into my safe to find a welcoming committee of a tempest, 2 cruisers (thorax and a rupture I think) and around 4 frigs including an af. I let my buddy know I was a goner on ts but I figured Id go down swinging. Started with the cruisers and managed to pop the thorax and the rupture warped off in structure (didnt have a point). Tank was slowly creeping down to around 50% as I started on the frigs. For the life of me I dont know why they didnt warp out but I got 2 of the frigs and eventually the AF warped out in structure. The last frig bailed and suddenly it was just me and the tempest.
By this stage my corpy was frantically logging back in trying to ***** a killmail. Local exploded and it was time to get out while I could. I entered warp just as another wave of BC/BS arrived. Probably one of my most fun/memorable fights in eve. 3 km without a scram and fight probably lasted a good 5min. Good times.
Peace WithinSo if the theory of relativity is true, shouldn't i arrive at my destination before i warped in the first place? Neon GhostYou do, but this is compensated for by lag |

Lost my Drake when fighting alongside an Absolution vs a Myrmidon, Hurricane and Megathron about 50km off a gate in lowsec, killing the Myrm just as I was going down and the Hurri was killed by the Abso about 20 seconds after I popped.
At this point there was just 1 Absolution vs a T2 Neutron-fit Plated Blasterthron. Odds didn't look good as the abso was taking massive hits, seemingly unable to tank the DPS - but as the Abso was nearing structure, the Megas web and several guns disengaged - it was out of Cap. The mega DID manage to re-engage them but by that point the Abso had regained masses of HP and was in a close orbit, pummeling the Mega and, with the aid of gate sentries, popping it.
Still, another Mega popped out of warp a few seconds after that and prompty took care of the Abso, but it was a good fight (and recorded too)

Was fighting an astarte while I was in my pilgrim. I was tanking his damage pretty well, since he was missing me (pre-TD nerf). He let loose some ECM drones, and got lucky. I was able to target one in between the jams though, and sent my drones to attack them. Then I got jammed again ><
As luck would have it, my drones actually kept on his drones . I had just entered into structure, when I got another lock on the astarte. I double TD'd him, set a good orbit out of web range. As he entered to approx 20% structure, he warped off.
In the excitement, I forgot to put a point on him

best comeback was I think the 1st alliance tournament (or was it the second I forgot).
It was BoB vs someone else.
It came down to 1 BoB Eagle vs 1 Deimos and 1 Ishkur.
The eagle seemed to be losing until the deimos either bumped into the eagle or went outside blaster range. It was so close that the single act of going out of range for a few seconds was enough for the eagle to get the upper hand.
That was epic.

That one tourney fight with a MC Mega vs a nos-Tempest. Mega gets the Tempest to deep hull, then caps out. Tempest reps a bit, Mega pops a cap booster, shoots Tempest to even lower hull, caps out. Repeat until Mega's cap boosters run out and it dies, Tempest has just a sliver of hull left. -- Gradient forum |

Hm, from something most recent.
Had a brutix vs hurricane fight, me in brutix. Both non-rigged, I had only AM ammo left and Cane pilot was smart enough to hover at the edge of a web range and pound me with Barrage. Being more mobile in the first place, he could keep the distance easily.
When I was deep into structure(around 60% or so), he thought the he won the fight already and went point-blank. Well.. overloaded blasters made me the one who was looting that time.. with 7% structure left iirc.
Oh, another one worth remembering. A friend of mine in a pimped crow got*****y while fighting retribution in a belt(come on, it's retribution lol ). Yeah, you guessed it right, he whacked into the roid

The BoB vs IAC fight I would guess
aye BoB vs IAC in that tourney sticks out for me -
A CTD took out our Logistics ship and TWD / myself quickly died with no remote reps. Kookman was heal/0'd by GMs when he managed to get back in and we were down to two ships.
It really looked like we were going to get bbq'd, as the other team had almost a full complement remaining. They were sure of it and I think every bob member was resigned to us losing and consolation / congratulation on gettign that far was given on ts / irc.
But slowly Dbp (vulture) and Kayo (Navy Raven) amazingly started to pull it back. We didn't dare hope for a draw never mind a win, but surely enough Tyraxx's Absolution went down then the enemy CNR, clinching an easy points win in the final minutes.
Bob's TS went mental :)
There's a similar story from a previous tourny, with Alasse Cuthalion pulling off a heroic 3 to 1 outnumbered victory in just an eagle.

Don't know if this is a comeback really, but I was getting owned by a Myrm on Sisi...
... but it turned out he had no DCU.
He popped me, but my last volley of cruises popped him just as I exploded!
Does this happen a lot?
Good stories btw.

I do remember one or three situation within few weeks while I was in YW on my alt blasthron with ion and dual rep, not neutron/passive tank.
First one was when i was roaming about in Cloud Ring as I was about to jump, i notice a big local spike as in from 1 to 15+, it was x-trading t2 frig gang with mixture of interceptor/AF, and i was alone, 10 minutes away from any help.
So i approach the gang (it was 2 gates in system, obivous they were coming into my direction), then i wait for them to warp to gate, to check on their gang. When i had good knowledge of what ships they had, I knew there 2 choice here, jump and get killed or stay and fight to death on gate. Enemy had few aggressors firing on me to push me to jump, so I decided to go all out while they on gate.
They were taken by surpised and in result, I manage to kill few interceptors that was waiting to jump and some AF, I believe half of their gang lost their ships before they realise that i was fighting, It was basically a slaughter, afterware, they had to retreat because they lack dps to break my tank and i can hold out long enough to jump and run.
Second was same again on blasthron on alt, was roaming the F7C-XZH pipe, I land into a gate camp, sabre, eris, stilleto, manticore, pilgrim and claw. It wasnt looking good and i didnt pay attention to local as i warp into bubble, I noticed eris was webbing me, so i was in web range too, and set all my drones and gun on eris, pop it goes, then i MWD to gate, hopeful to get out, as they pounding on my tank, I noticed Pilgrim was stationary, I decide to MWD to him and see if i can catch him, mind u, it was pre-nos nerf, so pilgrim was killing my cap, then He was surpised as i MWD to him and he died in 30 sec as to my surpise how fast it went down with my 5x orge II and blasthron tear it apart.
I MWD back to gate then tank it out while using my cap recharge, regulate caps to and manage my reps, then claw and stilleto was deaggressing in case i was jumping, both were in web range, then pop goes stilleto but claw got away in time, with hostile sabre, claw and manticore still pounding, they stop realising they cannot win, drop out and i was left with 3 800 cap booster and half armour HP with barely any caps.
Basically, I was damn surpised that i survived both encounter, not only got lucky with enemy incomplements in combat, but that I was sheer outnumbers and won the both fights.
So i call it good comeback regarding the situation of falling into ambush and ganks squad

I'm in my Drake and I find an Arby and a Drake sitting outside a station. I dock and undock, and find that their Drake is on the undock ramp, but the Arby is 20 km away, sitting still. Ok, so I can easily kill the Arby, then tank the sentries and MWD back to dock range, or just warp off - after all, surely I'm the only Drake pilot within 10 jumps with MWD and full tackle.
So I MWD up to the Arby and waste him with 500 DPS of HAM fire. Whilst looting the wreck, I notice that the enemy Drake has engaged me. Ok, useless heavy missiles incoming, easily tankable until I can dock... hang on... Terror Rage HAMs...? Ouch these hurt! Ok, time to warp off. Hmm, I'm scrammed... ok, let's burn back to the station then... *******s, webbed as well! What the hell is another PVP Drake doing here?
By now I'm at about 33% shields on my buffer tank, taking HAM-gank-Drake and sentry fire. My options appear to be limited to die, or shoot a bit then die anyway. Fortunately I'd already reloaded to EM and Thermal HAMs, so I deploy drones to draw sentry fire and engage! But his tank promptly collapses and he enters armour just after I do. A few volleys later, we enter structure at about the same time. By now I think I can kill him, but even if I do, the sentries will pop me straight afterwards. So I align for a belt and start hammering warp, if only to get my pod out.
We both get to low structure. Even if he pops, I won't instawarp as I'll have to accelerate up from webbed speed. As I'm hammering warp, a massive lag spike hits and I know that one, or very possibly both, of us is dead... The lag clears and I find myself sitting in a belt at 21% structure!
So the decisive event was me activating my Damage Control.
