I was in Basgerin the other day looking at some places to mine when a pirate locks me and immediately says "20 mil and i'll let you Live." of course he caught me trying to make a few isks so i said "I dont have more then 3 mil on me right now because i helped a friend" then he says "Well, time is ticking" and he opened fire.
At this point i dropped my drones and realized...... THIS GUY SUCKS  I blew him up in about 2 minutes and then his brother in a brutix locked on me and then a drake. I killed the brutix so fast it wasnt even funny, and started on the drake also doing pretty bad when they asked ME to stop! For some reason i did though. I told them to release me from warp scrambler and I will warp to my safe spot which will stop me from firing. Then lo and behold i could warp and i was out.
Anyway i was telling my corp about it and they told me to post it on our killboards: http://etg.eve-city.com/killboard/
Then asked me if i looted the ships. Which i didnt because i thought i was toast and was just trying to get away.
Anyway, I came here to the forums reading about ransoms and stuff and decided to share my story. By the way i did have help but didnt realize it till afterwards, a local guy said that he didnt think it was fair to have 3 vs 1 and gave me a hand which i am greatful of.

The Brutix pilot was using Civilian mods, and appears to be mining?!?!?! I don't get that at all - haha.
Way to stand up and fight - I wouldn't call those pilots pirates, they're just...

The fact that they locked you and immediately asked for a ransom seems very telling to me... Real pirates get you down to structure (and in a hurry, from my experience) before attempting to extract a ransom.
Sounds like they were suffering from 'premature extrication', to me! (There's a cream for that.)

LOL That's right up there with one of the last times I lost to a 'rat. I'm new, so my clone is still 'cheap'. They asked me for '7mil or pod' after they killed my T1 stabber. I was laughing as my new clone was activated and replaced for 150k. I had no implants and nothing of worth on the Stabber; they were out some ammo and lsot time until some of my buddies bounced them badly and didn't offer ransom. 
Basic math, people. Basic math. If someone is going for ransom, don't pop their ship and defiantely don't ask for too much if you do.

You might of had implants/forgotten to update your clone, it does happen.

I almost fell out of my chair when I saw what thes guys had fitted. I must say thank you for the great entertainment though was rather funny actually. Oh and for the record I podded the drake pilot just to teach these guys a lesson. Thanks again Carrie, I had been sitting cloaked on top of them for 5 minutes before you showed up. I was waiting for a buddy in an Eagle who ended up getting DC'd as he jumped into system but I wonder if I should have just solo'd these guys they were pretty lame.

You know a term I haven't seen used in a while.... gankbears. That's what most "pirate corps" are comprised of... so in actuality there are not a huge amount of pirates

You should have ransomed them! Nice story and those pirates sounded like noobs who read a few pirate posts, thought to themselves that it would be easy money and went for the first target: you. Unforunately for them, you didn't panic and fought back and pwned them.

The quality hasnt dropped, but the amount may have.. I think its the pressure to not be pirate for money making situations.
I think with your pvp experience you had was a one off - similar happened to me few years back.
I dont think you have met some "quality" pirates yet :)

There have been few good pirates corps around that I've seen. But only a few, unfortunately people's ideas of what comprises a good pirate corp differ widely. I myself am not impressed by T2 pirate Ganksquads.

think the biggest reason and my personal reasons i left pirating, is
1) isk.....I didnt earn even close to as much isk as a pirat as I do in 0.0, even in a non carebear corp. as the corps get much richer, the members benefit from it also, in free corp bs , free corp caps ect.
2) goals.....I ran out of goals sitting at a low sec gate day out and in, ofc it was fun, but I didnt feel like I acived something.
3) structure and Organsation. even its many poor alliance around, atleast been In tri feels like been in a well oiled warmachine together with likeminded ppl who got a clue.
