Edited by: z0de on 01/03/2008 08:50:35 Edited by: z0de on 01/03/2008 08:44:39 I think the "zomg blinky, RUN!" is a fair response as blinky shows they're looking for a fight (most of the time) and very few people will run to a fight with no hope of winning.

you did the right thing to warp, they came looking for pvp, and were fitted for pvp, you came for pve and would probably have been equiped for pve.
ive had ravens run from my rifter and im not even flashy red, its probably just the idea that theres an other person near you, that might bring friends
in your case, it could just as well have been a bunch of t2 ships from profesional pirates, and staying to engage that on thier terms is pretty much suicide

the flashy red always provokes a responce be it run away or in my case out in 0.0 where everyone is a potential ganker and i can have a frendly warp past/beside me (no nuts or reds in system) and reflex makes me jump to target them. if it wasnt for teh fact i rarely show friends in my overview im sure i would have caused a few diplomatic incidents by now (accidents ofcorse )

Tough call but if you had PvE fitted ships - then it was the right decision. All your uber-passive tank would have given you and your gang mate was more time before you died; unless you had gang mates close by.
If you had a PvP fitted ships....then you wouldn't be in a two-drake gang for one thing but something like a Cerberus or Vulture without stabs and with some tackling gear (you don't want them pirates to run away either you know!).
Did the red flashiness scare you? Probably. The fact that you didn't even get a chance to assess the ships before you warped out meant that fleeing was instinctive. No shame in that. None whatsoever. You saved your ship but you should have kept an eye on local and on the scanner to inform you of a scan probe.
Still, you could have went 'aw screw it, more targets!!!' and went after RedBad and Co then I doubt you would have won. Mainly because they're pirates and they're good at what they do: which is to kill people. If the three ships couldn't kill you (very unlikely if it was Redbad, RealZonk and one other...Kane?) - then back-up would have been called in. They're pirates after all, not knights. Screw this fair play crap. They're after you, your mods and a ransom.
You did good - but please come back.

to many people see PvP combat in this game as a dirty word. at the heart of it everything you do in EVE is a form of PvP, even selling stuff on the market. People see a player that is gonna shoot them, and they run away. Why not just give it a go. Weather you win or loose, its gonna be exciting. I garentee you WILL enjoy it. Sure no one likes to be ganked, but that could have been a straight up fight.
Play the game. Dont shy from the game mechanics you are not used to. blow them up

Of course, the "correct" action is to dock up as soon as you see the scan probe, refit for pvp, and wait for them to come to you. ^^ FRPB Shares in Default |

ZOMG blinky waaaaaaaaaaaaarp!
I had a dude run from my Ibis the other day.
And I had a cyclone running from my rifter once. The funny thing was that he had a faction spawn on that belt, and I got it.

first...reading the OP...they had travel gear on then refit closer to the complex..maybe i read that wrong. Standard procedure.
Second..if a red flashy jumps in on you while your PVE fit...you run if you can ..fight and probably die if you cant.
Going back to that example of the solo red flashy rifter..why run? Hes a tackler. he probably has backup on the other side of that gate or in system aligned just waiting to warp once he gets tackle.
In this day of blobage..you have to assume any lone ship that flys towards you is either bait or lead tackle for a whole pile of hurting coming behind.
Course that goes the same in reverse..a lone battlecruiser sitting in a belt fighting npcs that doesnt try to run when your evil pirate warps in on top of him...probably has a web/scram fit and a nice group of mates one jump over just waiting for some fun.
If your not out looking for a fight...your best avoiding em ...because you can assume the flashy who took the time to scan you out..knows what your in..and has made sure he has the firepower to defeat it.
Assuming incompentence in your enemy only leads to more insurance payouts. --------------------------------------------------- Scordite -Who was it that said that flying minmatar is kinda like going down a flight of stairs on an office chair while firing an uzi? |

I've made people bail by warping in in a shuttle when flashy so yeah, I guess the blinking just scares them. -

The advice to run was all dead on. You made the right call I just wanted to make two points that seem to have been missed.
1. You were already tanking a spawn that was eating up most of your ability to tank, hence your "ubertank" is a moot point.
2. They have warp scramblers, you do not. Hence any fight can only be you losing. They will warp off and repair if you managed to severely damage one. Because of that you can not possibly win, to run away was the only viable option.
Just remember to o/ in local and thank them for the adrenaline.
