But you will be a cretin with a killmail after your 3 damage mod Raven melts whatever ship BS and lower wanders into your 30km 'short range' combat envelope.

Try hitting a frig or Inty with medium or large guns if he's going at an reasonable speed. Killing BCs in frigs is what I enjoy most :D

torps can hit as much as blasters/ac/pulse.
sig affects all weapons
mybe do some research before posting ?
edit: after being shot by 3 torp ravens 2 days ago.... i can say.. nerf torp damage :P my megathron poped like cruiser under fire :P ( i had plate fit.... but didnt feel like i had any more armor than whitout plates :P) ---------------------------------- This is Me, fighting stupidity one post at a time. Blasters, AC's and Pulse's can't hit everything. Franckly, they can only hit BS's, whereas Torps will allways hit everything. But the damage is crap. Yes, I can hit a frigate if its at 50km+ and I have long range lenses in my Pulses, combined with tracking computers and a bit of luck. But you can hit those same frigates at 5km, and probably deal an ok amount of damage if you use target painters and a web.
Or the short true answer, guns rock and missiles suck, go train guns.

I don't think 25+ km range can really be classified as short-range in the same way as blasters.

The whole missile system in eve stinks really bad. Noone seems to smell it tho.
honestly I havent seen a game yet which has done missiles in any way worse than in eve.
In fact destiny is to blame (physic engine) which cant do missiles right it seems.

it is wierd that one of the assumptions about missiles is that they will always attack from the tail end of the ship. i guess if the target ship is on approaching an approaching vector the missile waits for it to pass then chases it down. strangely all those thousands of years in the future the missile guidance software isn't up to the challenge of just hitting the target from the front. we've had missiles doing that for a generation or so now. then the ship would fly into the shock wave from the missile going off and take more damage rather than less. would inflict some respect on those weaselly little ship pilots

That's because real life missiles have image recognition and in-flight trajectory adjustment. Eve's missiles are a very basic, fast moving object, whose only job is to catch up to its target. I imagine that writing code for missiles to intercept player ships on approach would be something CCP would have to subcontract Lockheed Martin for, and that's... a little out of their budget ;)

Max range for regular torpedos without a ship range bonus is 20 km. 17 something should be easy to reach with average skills.
Max range for regular torpedos with the Raven's bonuses is 30 km. 25 something should be pretty easy to train up for.
With Javelins it's even longer ranges.
No matter how you look at it, it's a whole different kind of range than even battleship size neutrons with null ammo get. Yet they do similar DPS as blasters nowadays.
Yes, they don't do full damage against smaller or faster targets, but guns don't either unless transversal velocity is very low. Also, with missiles you only have to worry about the target. Your own ship can move in any direction and at any speed without it having any effect on your accuracy as long as you stay within range.

Now for 1 this is balenced out by missiles/torps suffering a reduction in damage inflicted depending on the target's speed Vs. the speed of the wake of the explosion.
For 2 this equally applies to missiles as well as turrets.
How about this: Hybrids (blasters and railguns)- Kinetic and thermal damage only. Lasers - EM and thermal damage only Autocannons and missiles/torpedoes - any damage type you like.
So you still sure that torpedoes have the worst hand in things?

No worry neither are guns or flight mechanics right either... You think it's normal to miss a 500m long battleship at point plank range with a large gun?
