I have heard of the so-called "Goons" and have recently been introduced to their new calling, the "Jihad Swarm." Unfortunately for me, I learned of this first-hand on an alt whose name I need not reveal by losing a barge last week.
Now my first thoughts were of frustration, which quickly mushroomed into anger. "Who are these 'Goons' and who do they think they are? What kind of person suicides a 100M-ISK ship to a defenseless barge?" But of course, there is no greater evidence that they won than my repulsion.
So I step back and realize something as I read others' postings on the issue. If all of us were "high-sec lamers," we really wouldn't have much of a game. If everybody lived in empire, happily mining, manufacturing and selling their wares, prices would eventually drop to the pennies and the game would become pretty pointless.
Now I am not by any way condoning their actions, but I have to hand it to the Goons. What they are doing actually adds a welcome element of tension to the game, and encourages a different spin on Empire gameplay than the otherwise routine mining, docking, mining ad infinitum.
So in effect, dare I say it, the Goons are actually doing the game a service by providing a convoluted approach to an otherwise repeatative and monotonous evening playing EVE.

Wrong. Consider the raw minerals of EVE like the petroleum of America. Drive the price up, the economy goes down.

Perhaps, but all I'm saying if if nobody had to really work for anything the game would get very boring very quickly.
Just like if everyone was 100 per-cent safe in Empire, there would be no exhillerating threat of being ganked at any time without warning. You may as well be playing a one-player game if you want that sort of atmosphere.

I don't know why people make these nonsense posts. The only people who are excessively safe in Empire are years-old characters in NPC corps.
It is as simple as ticking "Ships destroyed in the last 24 hours" to see that 0.0 does not drive Empire. Empire is where both the bulk of the economy and combat is at.

your own analogy contradicts your argument. Imagine the market for petroleum if everybody in america filled up their tanks then never drove their car...
minerals are a consumable, just like petroleum. it is constantly extracted, processed, sold, and consumed.

minerals are a consumable, just like petroleum. it is constantly extracted, processed, sold, and consumed.
U.S. Petroleum drives the trucks and the aircraft that ship the products that drive our economy. As the price of gas goes up, the price of operating those vehicles goes up, and in order to keep making a profit, the companies charge more for the product they are carrying.
Now same thing with EVE, barges are the vehicles which mine our minerals and convert them into ships for sale on the open market. If the number of miners (or at least their percent productivity)goes down, the number of ships produced goes down, and due to supply and demand, the price of those ships goes up.
Not an exact analogy, I admit, however it proves my point. As the price of **** goes up past a certain point, less people buy it, and once we start seeing **** like 3mil ISK for a frigate, you'll know the economy is busted.

To say that newbies who mine in high sec to make some money impact the economy much is just flawed.
Macro miners, reprocessed goods and the *hardcore* miners who have 6 accounts and a command ship in their belt, those are the things that govern the economy.

That is true - though they are making quite a few enemies in the process. Not that this bothers them, of course.

I have to agree with the op, (and some other sub-topics created in reply) The way I see it, the Goons doing something that people consider an atrocity as good thing. It keeps the game fresh and interesting. I know for sure I'll be more careful with my industrial alts! From a business point of view (ccp) this potentially makes some good writing for cover stories, for the news section when you log in, down to potentially creating adverts in mags. Just imagine the possibilities in adverts they could have used with the whole BoB vs everyone else confict!
As for the guy who posted about economics. Sorry bud, you've got it slightly wrong. Granted, the supply and demand dictate the price range of products, but what you are forgetting, is that once the prices are so high, that supply is _greater_ than the demand, then prices _have_ to drop again otherwise produce won't sell. As for your rhetory using 3m frigates, only an idiot would buy a tech 1 frigate for that amount! (If you're following the property market in the UK just now, you'll find that prices are actually dropping slightly just in most area's for this reason.. Prices are too high, no one can a: afford them, or b: wants to pay over the odds for something)
On a side note to this subject, prices would not overly hinder some of the larger alliances, as they already have their own industrial backbone dedicated for supplying equipment for themselves.

Economy goes down? There is a MASSIVE abundance of isk in this game. God forbid instead of farming/hoarding isk, they make the carebears SPEND the isk, instead of watching the numbers in their wallet go up.

Better idea...... Stop being greedy for 15% more ore or ice and use the T1 ships until this blows over. Insurance will pay you back and you wont be putting the isk into the hands of the leet who hold the BPO's of the exhumers or top end inventors.
you will still probably lose a ship or two but it wont cost you much after the first insurance payout.
this way you get to keep the base isk and still work at making some...........

Would this work? .... Where there is a group of exhumers, get a few alt rookie ships and go and attack the group. This will spawn concord in the belt to insta own any suicide gankers that fail to one volly ships. Just an idea, not sure if it would make any difference tho.

The same kind of person who thinks that using a multi-billion isk ship to blow up NPC rats is the ****zle.
All folks who are rather slavishly dedicated to playing this game. It takes plenty of time to grind your sec status up to the point where you can blow the snot out of a group of miners..and then come back fifteen minutes later to do it again...and again.
Long enough that you probably have a huge stash of cash to spend on more ships to suicide on more miners.
The only difference between the two? One of them gets their kicks playing alone and counting their isk. The other gets their kicks out of playing with others and spending isk like water. I like option #2...helps support some folks' manufacturing habit. (Just another BS...just make another...I'll stop after this one *twitch*) --
