You can make up to about 30 million / hour at most I believe, it's up to you to decide if that is profitable or not.

Mining is not that cut and dry.
You have to haul, refine & sell everything. Prices vary by region.
Miners actually spend more time moving and selling minerals then actually mining the belts. This is why a vast majority of posts stating mining amount per hour are correct in theory but wrong in practice. In the end the actual profit is a lot smaller when based on the amount of time consumed.

alt account hauler? same isk/hour. although the values posted in many places are asuming perfect conditions, where you can switch your lasers on and have no downtime for an hour (like no roids popping, no hauling)
Edit: mining is still profitable, but not as much as other methods of earning money

Yes, but you would say that if you have 2 accounts, you would have to divide profits by two accounts, which you are paying real life money for. But anyway, it's just a game, just enjoy, pay not that much attention to isk or you might be feeling it's a 2nd job.
I have played another game, Entropia Online, where you could actually exchange stuff into real life cash and it was like a giant casino for me. Shooting a weapon just made you lose money, and you didn't get loot most of the time (after all, if everybody won, they would be broke). It became unbereable to me. Every time I got hit and my armor quality decreased, every time I wasted 1 unit of ammo or shot and my weapon quality would go down, I actually felt I was losing real life money. I just couldn't play it anymore.
I guess I did not respond to the OP. Sorry! _______________________________________________ The ShadowMaster -

Yes, of course it's still profitable, and will probably always be.
A lot of people say that running level 4 missions is better, and in some optimal cases it is, however they do not take several factors into consideration.
One would obviously be that if you are "miner specced", you can jump right into the world of mining (be it through a corp or solo) and start making some nice profit right "out of the box". While with missions you have to dedicate quite a lot of time (especially if you do not have any social skills) to even obtain the good ones.
The other two factors are risk and effort. Mining bears no risk whatsoever UNLESS you do it AFK. It also requires little to no effort or concentration, when compared to high level missions and low sec. ratting.
Most (key word right there) miners will know how to avoid the very few dangers available to them in high security space (like suicide ganking for example), but when it comes to high level missions or low sec. ratting, there is no way to avoid the risk.
You are forced to fight, and you must do it well (skill factor) if you want to make it more profitable than anything else. With that said, not everyone knows how to fit a ship properly, or how to scan a system effectively or even engage an enemy from the right angle. A couple of mistakes or a single moment of distraction can make your precious Battlecruiser go BOOM, and that's something to consider when speaking of profit.
In short, if you like mining and think you have the potential to be good at it, don't let others "force" you into the world of mission running, salvaging and low sec ratting. I assure you mining is still a valid option to make some serious isk...

Mining the rare roids out in 0.0 will net you more (if you can do it consistently) then mission running will ever do. I used to AFK mine out in the drone regions with one char tanking the belt and another hauling. Was making a killing shipping the high-ends back to empire for no fee.
Mission runners in 0.5+ don't make that much compared to even crappy 0.0 belt ratters to be honest. ---

You look a awful lot like a alt aswell sir. I see alot non constructive posting on youre hand, are you really that bored? And there is no outragous number to made while mining. Per hulk i would say aprox 9 mil isk per hour if you mine mixed minerals.

Mining is always profitable. At the end of your mining op your wallet will be bigger than it was before. Mining however is not the most profitable activity in Eve. That would be trading, level 4 missions and 0.0 ratting. Its basically up to you to figure out your comfort level of interaction with the game vs how much you want to make. If your full of energy and are itching to blow things up then missions and ratting will probably fit your style. If you would rather watch tv and chat with friends then mining is an excellent choice.
The real question is what are you planning on doing with the isk you make. That will determine what level of isk per hour you need to attain and maintain. --------------------- Q: WTF! Why?! A: Because I can. --------------------- |

The money is not the mining itself, its what you do when you refine it. Basically ship and module production is where the money is at, and that requires the mins that you mine. So the cheaper you produce your goods, the more isk you make. Typically you'll see producers only buying high end materials. They mine a bunch of trit, sell it off to afford the high end stuff.

I believe the OP asked if it was profitable. Yes?
You mine the ore. You refine the ore, or not. You sell the minerals (or ore). You make ISK.
Is that not a profit? You start with 16 million ISK and after mining for an hour or so you have something more than 16 million, you have turned a profit.
To answer the OP, Yes.
As far as those two ores go, yeah, get a calculator ya bum.

Actually, no. Mining is NOT profitable. Mining is NEVER profitable, by definition. Mining is WORK, mining is not a bussiness. Because it's work, you can't make a profit, you can only collect wages.
Nah, just kidding you, in EVE, it is a bussiness, since you have to buy your own gear. In other words, if you manage to mine and sell stuff for more ISK than your equipment has cost before somebody *cough* blows it up, you're making a profit. But, unless you do it out in 0.0 (risky) it's going to take a good while... and highsec ain't that safe anymore (thanks, Goons, and I don't mean this in a sarcastic way) so it's not that "profitable" to mine there either.
The most profitable (and safe) mining would be in deep 0.0, as member of a larger alliance, with alliance escorts and haulers around you.

My alt mines ore. He refines them into minerals. He builds a ship. He uses the ship to rat. When the ship dies, he collects insurance and builds another one.
Mining isn't profitable, what follows it, is.

The problem with being a mining drone for a mojor alliance is that after they take their cut for the 'war effort' and all that you could have made more isk mining in high sec by keeping it all to yourself. --------------------- Q: WTF! Why?! A: Because I can. --------------------- |

Mining 5 Astrogeo 5 Barge 5 Exhumer 5
No. Mining sucks. I've prolly spent a few hundred hours of my life mining, and quite frankly it sucks.
In 0.0 mining still sucks. You need a second account to tank for you, and a third account to haul for you, and a fourth account to justify the third account (1 hauler can handle 2 miners, sometimes 3).
So basically you're sitting there with 4 accounts to make 50 mil an hour.
The 50 mil does not include time spent doing logistics to haul the minerals to market or anything, it does not include paying someone to jump your minerals out.
When you come down to it, in 0.0 you make like 30 mil an hour for 4 accounts.
With 1 acct you can rat in the belts and make 25-30m an hour and have less risk of getting killed, because at least in a ratting ship you can fight back.
So no.
Mining is not a valid profession IMO.

Where you ofcourse need to invest a few hundreds of mills in equipment, to have more than 2 accounts, or pay a large ammount if isk for a tanker and/or hauler.

One could make a point that mining is profitable and fun if your Corporation does it as a group and uses what you mine to build ships and other things with it for members.

It is possible to be too objective about these things. Eve is a player run economy, and as such, what is profitable today, becomes unprofitable tomorrow. As people find out the most profitable money making scheme, word spreads and people gravitate towards it, making competition higher, and driving profits down.
Mining is at the bottom of the production pipe, but it is imperative to all production.
It isn't profitable at the moment, because of the deflation of the last half year or so, but the feeling is that the next quarter or so will see 'low to mid level inflation'. We are already starting to see this in the rise in price of the most important mining commodity - Tritanium.
For an in depth discussion of why mining is set to become profitable again, read this link (and always keep an eye on Dev blogs)

I don't see how mining would become profitable in the near future. ISK influx from rat bounties is constant , so are mission rewards. Drone ratting produces minerals much like mining also , and mission loot is typically reprocessed - if no one were mining there would still be a significant production of minerals.
But farmers will always mine , and sell their BS below cost anyway. There is no good way to drive mineral prices up , without a trade cartel of like minded miners.
