Nonsense. I took my max level druid into the Gnome spawning grounds and after awhile they formed up a raid and killed me. It was great fun for all.

Wow is for the masses. It's a beautiful themepark for those who like to stand 3 hours in line on a nice summer's day, waiting to be entertained by an attraction or ride.
Eve is a niche game It's a beach on a rainy, windy spring morning, for those who like to be given a bucket and a shovel and get told "go play".

Originally by: Munen This is an incomplete post for my tastes but I have to admit Victor Forge (in the thread about why high sec stays out of 0.0) identified one of the major basic differences between these two games.
Quote: The end-game in Eve is 0.0 and lowsec pvp, endgame in WoW is PvE raiding. So why are are so many EvE-players Empire huggers and why are so many WoW players pvpers?
Answer is both the same, pve in EvE is casual friendly, pvp in WoW is casual friendly. PvP gear in WoW is refered to as "well-fare" epics by raiders. In EvE pvpers says that pve, such as mission running in high-sec, is too profitable.
However raiding in WoW since TBC has become very costly and not just in time, the result is that WoW is stagnating since casuals are getting bored since they will never experience a big part of that game, but those that stays are doing pvp. The result has among other thing lead to an influx of ex-WoW players to EvE.
In EvE it is the pvp that is costly and the most casual friendly part of the game is high-sec mission running or doing high-sec mining.
To cover the losses of ships and implants many of the low / 0.0 sec people have more than 1 account. But there are few losses in pve encounters of ships and you are not losing implants.
It is not about players being carebears. As has been pointed out by some posters, there are actually carebears in 0.0 sec as well.
It is about casual players. Trying to starve high-sec to force them out in low-sec to be targets, will result in casuals leaving the game.
The overwhelming majority of empire players are indeed not crippled by fear or ignorance, they are just casuals, that log in for 1-3 hours when they play and will never ever buy a second account.
What? I've been in 0.0/low sec/high sec wars all my eve career and I have only had one account the entire time. I usually only play a couple hours a day, and I consider myself casual. In the whole 1 3/4 years I've been playing, I only managed to get lvl 3 standings with one corp before I got too bored with the grinding.

Let me see EVE is space based mmo and WOW is planet based mmo.

Eh. Op is an obvious troll as you simply don't stroll into the Eve GD with this topic and expect anything but a mutual assured destruction nuclear meltdown. On the other hand I rather enjoy playing Wow for a month every few months. Drop a months sub and go level up a bit in easy mmo land. I've got one of those Dwarven Hunter guys with the musket at level 32! Woo! Gameplay wise though about the only thing Wow and Eve share is the pve. Both are equally mind numbing after a month. You have to quit Wow for a few months to regain any interest but with Eve you can simply switch over to one of the countless other profesions both CCP made or player made and get your game on for years and years on end. That the Difference between Wow and Eve.

i have played WoW and final fantasy XI. i cancelled my WoW account the first day of playing eve. I like the fact that when you die in eve you loose your items, and you can take the items of your enemies in eve. i kept my ffxi account because i still like talking to my in game aquantinces, and i look sexy in blue mage armor. Eve is by far the best online game i've played though. This is the hand that will blind your eyes and split your spine

I really like how SSgt Timmy friends would yell and scream if three people would roam around killing people. WoW is complete and total fail not even PvE is its credit. The game is a NS Zelda on training wheels.

While I agree with you through and through, I rather like that anthropologic aspect of the game; humankind venturing through the Eve gate and how the descendents of the humans that went through evolved into the different factions, with their own language, culture, societies and so on, after the Eve gate collapsed. I like that "touch of realism" as our own history go, mankind spread over the globe, developed different languages, cultures, religions and ways of thinking.
But indeed, Scottie will not beam you up no matter how hard or much you believe, because he is not real.

I'd put it this way: All MMOs are designed to make you an addict, eliminate your personal life and suck the will to live straight out of your brain.
Out of all MMOs I find Eve to be the least deprimental in that regard because of the nature of the skill training and the fact that the entire game is player driven.
If you quit after three years you'll still have that eye-opening moment of "Oh no, I've wasted three years", but at least in that time you may have actually changed the gameworld and left a mark. Be that politically and/or economically. If you leave one of the dozens of generic fantasy pve MMOs like Warcraft; After your buddies forget you there's no way to tell you were ever there in the first place ;)
That's right. Eve is that deep.

Not even going to read the previous posts. Why do people compare this game to that one and vice versa. I don't play and don't plan on playing WoW Does that mean I should compare it to UO? Ok, both have pvp and pve zones. UO has horses, llamas and dragons..sure you could probably figure out a way to compare those animals to the types of ships in EVE. UO has house. EVE has POS. Both games have campers, gankers and whiners. Or how about I compare it to City of Heroes. CoH has pvp only zones, EVE is a pvp zone. CoH has more character slots and servers and doesn't have the 10 hour wait to delete a toon. EVE has the ability to transfer ISK between your characters while to do the same in CoH requires a trusted friend, a 2nd account and/or a 2nd computer.... I'm to high from Percocet and zero sleep to continue but I think I got my post across.

Played WoW for 2 years.
Apart from many other reasons, eve is better because it doesn't have the stupid "Bind on Equip" and ever WORSE "Bind on Pickup" items. WoW sucks for that, if for nothing else (and there are plenty of other things).
Sorry if someone has mentioned BOE and BOP items elsewhere - I only skimmed the responses.

Edited by: Lrd Byron on 07/03/2008 08:01:48 played WoW for a little over 2 years, been playing Eve for about a month and a half. Wow can be a fun game but it gets stale. Guild politics are obnoxious and I found raiding to be among the g@yer things this world has to offer. Since there is a limited number of raid slots and some people presumably desire to raid guild relation devolves into a never ending steam of accusations and resentment from people who think they are getting the short end of the stick. The developers have their head completely up their ass (though it seems like people have the same general opinion of this games devs). The one thing I liked about WoW was PvP, but even this could get old as the only real point to it was to get better gear so you could be better at PvP. Not to mention it was incredibly restrictedin where when and how it took place. There was fun to be had but Blizzard was dead set on dictating exactly how you had it.
Plus you pretty much had to be level 70 with good gear to even start playing the game. In eve it seems like even newbs can accomplish some things if you get a handful of them together. In WoW a decked out level 70 PvPer could solo half a severs worth of newbies.

I would say that it is not entire true... sure if I as a lvl 10 try to hit a lvl 70 I probably would not do much damage at all However one in a noobship would not kill a guy in a battleship either would he ? not without help. I remember while playing wow (still do that but) that me and a friend both where bloodelf paladins, I was at lvl 42 and my friend at lvl 62 and we both killed a Epic-geared druid lvl 70.... ofcourse my friend did the damage while I did the healing. In a another fight I had with my paladin I killed solo a lvl 60 mage while I was at lvl 52 ... mainly because I got the first blow I could keep him close to me so I could do the damage.
At the moment while I play WoW I right now level a Hunter (different server than my paladin) and I at times does engage into pvp with other players, not this battlegroundstuff but world pvp ... I run around areas where I know horde is at and kill them or get killed all depends I do not attack grey players those I don't get any honor killing ... well might do that not yet anyway ... ---------------------------------------------- "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I felt as a child, I thought as a child: now that I am become a man, I have put away childish things." 1 cor. |

WoW is imo a very good game. I myself played it for about 2 years, quit a couple of months after the burning crusade expansion.
Don't get me wrong I enjoyed every minute of WoW and its a fun game. But the thing is you need to devote you life to it, in order to gain anything. Endgame becomes boring and time consuming. EVE you can play as much or as little as you like and their is no endgame as such. Also as others have said EVE is very much a thinking mans game, which I like.
Although sometimes I wonder if the community is more 'mature'. Older maybe, but from the constant flames on these board it makes me wonder.
