Try mission running. Level 1 missions are quite fun in a frigate. Buy the highest-tier frigate available for your race (Rifter, Merlin, Punisher, Tristan) and find a PVE fit on this forum, and give it a try.
On the other hand you might want to try piracy ( ), or alliance warfare ( ). Investigate joining EVE-University, especially if you're interested in alliance play.

1. Drop every preconcieved notion of MMOs from this point out. You will thank yourself later as the tolls wont chew you out as much.
2. Never compare EvE to WoW, just dont do it.
3. EvE does not have classes in the classical sense, you can be anything you want provided you have the time and money to devote to the skills you need. You can train to be an fighter pilot who has decent industrial skills to build his own ships and ammo if you wanted, only limitation is the time and isk it takes to do it.
4. Because of the sheer level of customization, leveling and skills, you will be hard pressed to encounter another individual with exacting skills as you.

If you are talking about race then Caldari is likely the most popular choice, however race is purely a lore choice and has no bearing on who you work for. You can be a gallente and work for your races mortal enemy (the amarr or caldari) and no one will argue.

I think we are all middle class here. The elites have their own MMORPGs that filter out the riff-raff, and the poor have to work hard for a living.

This is a rediculous comment. Its unfortunate that some people who play EVE have this kind of attitude. Its important to have new players join the game, otherwise it will grow stagnant, dull and eventually die. This kind of attitude tends to scare other players off as they feel that there is an elitist community in EVE, and the amount of time and effort to become a part of that community is not worth it.
To the poster - as others have indicated above, there really is no class. EVE is great that way. You can specialize in a given area, like PVP, or Mining, or manufacturing, but you can do all of them if you choose, or focus in only one area. Also, there is no one way to get rich in EVE. Money is tough, and generally speaking there are trends. they key is to spot the trend and milk it for all its worth, and then save your cash for the next trend you see. At least, thats been my experience.

Ignore the trolls Jen Star, they are quite hungry these days and chew on anything .
If you intend to roleplay then I suggest reading the stories about each race and decide which you prefer. After that you will want to look at your attributes and the best is to read the guides in the skills forum. Attributes will make it easier following the path you want. In general, combat and ship related skills need high perception and willpower, science and ship support skills need high intelligence and memory while leadership and trade skills require charisma and willpower. As a new player you won't be making billions a month, you'll have to use your 5000 isk to start your career of choice. There are tons of ways to making isk, the most is reserved to intelligent players taking advantage of stupid people - yes that is the harsh pvp environment of EVE.
If you need help just drop me a mail, I can give you some tips or guide you to good corporations depending on what you want to do. --- Selling Rokh BPO ME 45

Caldari Achura. Best overall stats for most anything you want to do. Start out as a miner with the Osprey as you slowly skillup towards a mission running Drake then finally Raven. Once you get a nice fat wallet built up then make your way into the real isk in the game: Trading. Once your established then crosstrain for another races ships and join a 0.0 pvp corp and reap the rewards of your carebear beginings.

I read both of his posts. in the first he asked for tips on getting started in the game and the second was a correction to his request about the 'proper' way to name a charecter class in Eve.
So how was asking for advice being elitist? --------------------- Q: WTF! Why?! A: Because I can. --------------------- |

hes not?
was asking you a question not implying he was elitist :P
From his posts its clear he dosent know much about EvE and he likes games like WoW and expects others to follow the same guidelines, if thats what he EXPECTS hes in for a shock, sure he could end up enjoying it but likelihood is he wont.
But hey time will tell, if hes still playin in 3 months I owe you 10 mil k ;) Please resize signature to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint

Fury spec warrior is fun because you crit a lot, but I'm gonna make a white mage/summoner. Its a pain because you have to level the primary job up twice as many levels, but who cares right?

No this is your immediate assumption. Instead of giving someone the benefit of the doubt, or thinking that perhaps they dont know a lot about EVE, but are eager to learn, you immediately jumped to the worst possible conclusion in your mind and stated that they just shouldnt play. Thats why I called your post rediculous. Instead of adding to the community, or the game, your closing the door in someones face.
Edit: Argh trixy quote system
