Edited by: Veng3ance on 14/03/2008 18:56:59 TBH that is probably the hardest Level 3 mission in the game, especially if you kill the wrong rats and trigger more.
Don't feel to bad, a few nice named fitting should get you through most level 3's no problem.

Edited by: Goa Vibe on 14/03/2008 19:56:23 with unfamiliar missions, and not having the best support skills you can prolly fit this :
RIGS ---- 3x purger rigs (~43mil)
HIGH ---- Malkuth Heavys 1xTractor (wont have an AB and be slow as a turtle, for snatching up those cargo cans that drop mission items.)
MID --- 2 LSEII or named Azeo or Rego - your low pwr grid skills prevent you from fitting 3 LSEII two passive resist amps two shield rechargers (or one, with an extra invuln or resist or painter)
LOW --- 4X shield power relay (swap out with BCU as you see fit to reduce your tank and increase your DPS)
if you know you arent going to be neut'd, use actives.
These dont have to be t2 but sure helps :)

So, what the crap... did I just get really unlucky with which mission I was handed, and what spawns I had? Or do I need to go nuts with T2 gear before I can actually complete one of these stupid missions without dying of old age in the process? I still made about 2m in bounties from what I could be bothered to kill, but still, I feel like I was doing better just blasting through the L2 missions.
Yes, you were unlucky. The Blockade is a really difficult mission, and I've never completed it alone.
Get someone to help you. It doesn't have to be some badass 11 year old player. I had help, the one time I flew The Blockade level 3, from a semi-noob player who flew a Caracal and did anti-frigate duty, while I flew my Drake and fought the cruisers. We had to warp out a couple of times, but we did it.
A couple of noobs each in a Drake should be able to do it.
As for other level 3 missions, I'm not saying that The Blockade is the hardest one, there may be others, but it is definitely very hard, and almost all other level 3 missions are a lot easier, so don't despair.

Originally by: Chuck Skull You were pretty unlucky there, blockade is one of the hardest L3's. You should always tailor your resists and damage dealing to the enemies you're facing(can usually be found in your journal next to the mission location), if you get it right your drake should be able to tank most L3's without breaking a sweat.
Isn't it the case that when flying some Caldari ships, damage dealing tailoring is a bit wasteful, since you get a +5% kinetic damage bonus per level? Or even +10% for the Kestrel?
I've always just used kinetic, which has worked fine for me (Caracal with Caldari Cruiser level 4, then level 5, then Drake with Battlecruisers level 4, then level 5), except in one mission that I flew last week with my wingman and a corp-mate, where we wanted to kill some battleships, so we tried doing EM damage, because my research suggsted that even with my +25% kin damage bonus, effective damage would be higher if I did EM. -- Salpad |

If you're sufficiently hard, and you bring a couple of friends, you can kill everyone in the last level of the 10/10 storyline.

A pity you have throw it away refusing the mission. You could have asked a friend to help you, it was probably worth it.
wrong.
No, he is correct. The bounties, when I did The Blockade level 3 with my wingman, were insane. Then on top of that came loot from maybe 50-60 wrecks.
The Blockade is definitely worth doing. -- Salpad |

If you have problems doing any, ANY, level 3 missions in a Drake you might want to hang out doing level 2s for a few more months or form a fleet with other noobie mission runners and share rewards.

I just got my fully T2 fitted drake besides rigs and launchers, i laugh at ALL lvl 3's atm. Trying to get standing to check out some 4's. But if i remember you dont have to kill all the ships in that mission? Just run to the accel gate? Idk if its the right mission, but i remember a mission where it payed well and all i had to do was run to a few gates. Dieing in lowsec is common..get over it. |

I have done it with a Typhoon. Stiff, but the perma-run dual rep tank did fine Then again in a Claymore.
Any BC other than a Myrmi or Drake, I wouldn't try. Just pop the tower and run.

Try: 7x Best launchers you can afford 1xTractor if possible
3x Large Regolith extenders (yes they are mildly expensive but well worth it!) 2x Rat primary hardeners (kinetic for guristas, etc) 1x Rat secondary hardener (thermal for guristas, etc)
2-3x BCS 1-2x SPR Swap out the BCS for the SPR when you have a mission that needs more tank (like blockade)
You should be able to one-volley destroyers, so take them out first, then unnamed frigs, then cruisers, then battle cruisers then named frigs then the trigger. Worked perfectly with almost no skills.

A drake can tank full pockets of lvl 4s, most anyway, it's you. Train up more skills work on fit learn the mission use the proper hards and ammo. It'll make a huge difference.

Just train up ur skills and use what Goa Vibe indicated in T2 (absent the invulnerability field) and use 3 large shield extender II's once u r able... I don't use the rechargers but use more passive amps and in lows I do use a DCU damage control II to get higher resists... The Blockade is simple if u follow the survival guide info and if u r using a passive tanked drake.. The hardest L3 mission is the multi-part New Frontiers--especially part 5 of 7 which has multiple neut towers... has to be done just right...and a passive tanked ship has much better chance and so drake is the right choice...
The 10 part lvl 3 storyline is pretty easy in a raven (but not for a Drake unless u have help and choose to blitz) and I killed every bs in it--go back and kill the one in the meeting as it drops a hardwire implant (u pass it by first and go to next room--kill everything there and then come back to first room and kill the bs)...The 10 bs's in the last room r also easy if u kill each group separately and use proper ammo (kinetic) and maintain proper distance--again attn to survival guide info is a requirement (I had the Blood Raider version)Can't remember what it's called Killer Strike or something like that

A common problem is that new players think that a ship in itself can handle the mission. For example, caracal for level 2, drake for level 3 and raven for level 4.
For me and other high SP players that is no problem. In fact, I can do level 4 in an assault frigate (check this video), but for new players with only a few million SP, even a raven can have problems with level 3 missions.
For level 3 missions, you should probably get to level 4 in all relevant skills, especially for the ship itself, damage skills and tanking skills. And do level 2 while you train. For level 4, you should get a lot of skills to 5 to get t2, and use some faction stuff when you can afford it.

Well, I wasn't assuming that the ship would do the mission for me - I expected it would be a bit tricky, but not THAT much like hard work.
Anyway, I've got my shield upgrade skills to 4 now so I'm using T2 extenders/hardeners, and I'm working on getting my drone skills up (as they were previously nonexistent) and taking a break with another character for a bit for a bit of variety. Probably go back to the L2 missions for a while and see how completely I can overkill them while I work on the rest of my fitting skills and stuff - still not too happy about the rigs, though, there's something that definitely doesn't sit well with me about spending more than the ship cost on fitting it out with permanent non-interchangeable items...

well it sounds like your doing just fine. those cruisers are a surprise when you first bump into them as they will be the hardest tanking rat you will meet until you start on lvl4 missions. if you take a peak at a heavy assault ship on the market you will see that they get some massive bonuses to their resistances. thats why they are so hard to kill.
when you get that mission again and work out the triggers you could try saving those dire guys for last. I did that in my retribution (good tank, relatively low damage) on the lvl3 serpentis blockade. because i was able to easily tank their damage i decided it was easier to kill the battle cruisers, destroyers and other softer targets. when the whole mission was cleared out i then focused on the HAC's (short for heavy assault cruiser before they changed it to "ship", cos HAS sounds silly). at this point you could warp out and swap some low slots out for more damage mods to speed things up, i swapped to my lesser tanking brutix with blasters, and that ripped them up nice and fast. Because sometimes you just have to go back to your roots: [2005.02.20 01:08:03] (combat) Your Civilian Light Electron Blaster perfectly strikes Serpentis Smuggler, wrecking for 20.3 damage. |

Lvl 3 Blockade is the only blockade to feature:
1. Trigger spawns that ARE NOT the biggest/most bounty of the wave.
2. Multiple trigger-ship spawns. As in, the Trigger Ship is a Gistii Destroyer, and the wave gives you several of the exact same ship, bounty and all, with one being the trigger.
3. Plenty of t2 NPC's to shoot at, cruiser and frigate class.
Thus, typical "shoot the easier ones first, less guns on me" tactic doesn't work as well. And it's impossible to know which of the multiple trigger ships is the actual trigger. Patience and lots of ammo will see you through.
If the t2 ships are giving you trouble, train your missle/drone skills up to kill them better. That's really the only solution.

First spawn, leave the destroyer alone, kill the stasis tower last. Second spawn, a BC rat called assasin or assaulter is the trigger. Third spawn, same as before. Fourth spawn, same again. Last spawn, killing the Assasin or Assaulter or sometimes even a Death Dealer ends the mission.
I attempted it in a T1 fitted drake, was somewhat hard and had a m8 come in and help me with logistics after I popped too many triggers.
These days, I use:
7 Malkuths 1 Tractor
2 LSE II 2 SR II 1 Kin Hardener 1 Therm Hardener
3 SPR II 1 BCS II
3 CDFP I Rigs
And I always laugh at that mission, pop all triggers, then watch the fireworks :D

That way you get the second wave spawning before you did any damage to the first.
