Edited by: Jakke Logan on 10/03/2008 22:51:35 Edited by: Jakke Logan on 10/03/2008 22:50:30 I am getting really sick and tired of the increasing use of advertising pop ups on the EVE client at launch. I object to them on my game client for the same reason why I use a browser (Firefox+Adblock) to prevent being assaulted by them on the web: I don't want anything obstructing what I want to do.
Your pop ups have to be clicked on (ie: looked at) in order to get to the client login. A client login for a service I am paying for every month. If CCP is truly in such dire financial straits that they need to spam me with crap on my client login, I'd rather they raise the subscription fee rather than resort to this sort of yes, scummy marketing. What is worse, CCP seems to be increasing their frequency, and no, not all of them are game related.
Advertise the stuff you want to push in non offensive ways please. I don't care if it's on the website, or even in the in game news, just as long as it's NOT interrupting what I am trying to do (ie: log into the game). I could live with them if they DID NOT require you to close them before being able to log in.
And please note: I make it a point to NOT buy anything pushed to me in offensive ways, and pop up ads on my game client rates about a 10/10 in offending me. So I will not be purchasing EON, or the Eve Strategic maps, stuff I might well have bought if I'd not been subjected to "captive marketing".
And another thing, unless it's truly system related please avoid system messages in game as much as possible. I and everyone else knew the alliance tourney was going on, no need to do something like INTERRUPT MY IN GAME PLAY to tell me what I already knew. Telling me that Jita has crashed= something I may not know of and may need to know. Telling me that a tourney is on that has only been hyped all over the news and website for months = something I ALREADY knew and didn't need to be interrupted for.
Any clever modders out there know a way to disable the ability of the client to produce a pop up?

I dont believe its allowed to edit the client.
I didnt even get the tourny popup ;_; Not that I would care if I did.
However one point that you raised, yes, I think there should be an option for people that suffer severe mental trauma from popups so that they can pay a little bit more in their subscription and never get any. ----

I don't like it when my eyeballs are forced to view some marketer's "copy", especially in a service I'm already paying for. Make the game free, then, yes, I have a reasonable expectation of seeing ads. But not a subscription funded game.
This is something that I'd expect of a truly slimeball outfit like SOE.. Not CCP.

I think they should add an option to the client settings to disable system messages (show them in log only) and to turn off client login popups.

They do make a solid game. I hate seeing it made to look bad by doing these sorts of cheezy things. Again, not even SOE stooped this low, and SOE is so low in the gutter they need the Hubble Space Telescope to look up and see it...
I already pay for 3 accounts, how much more money from me does CCP need?

The adverts I have seen have all been related to E-On, their own magazine, I seriously doubt that you have looked beyond your own irritation and seen that none of the ads are from something non CCP/EvE affiliated.
Hence they are not getting any extra revenue, so they can not really be getting any extra greed factor (more than a normal capitalistic company would).

Actually it is starting to get annoying.
If i'm going to have to see an advertisment everytime i log in, then there shouldnt be a 'this eve related add will only apear once' warning at the top.
I don't care if they're different adds, the fact some marketing clown decided to put that warning at the top of the screen is simply cheese.

Completely wrong. Half the time they don't even appear before I've logged in and they flash up just as it goes to the next stage. When they do show up before I've tried to log in I've not had to do anything but log in as per normal.
You CAN close it if you wish to but there is no requirement to do so.
Personally I don't find the ads at all intrusive, just a splash of pretty colours as I log in. Chill out a bit.

What's the big deal? Is this really a serious post?
If you don't like the ad, either log in or use your mouse, close the box, and log in.
Simple.
By the way, I've never had to close an ad to log in. I just log in while it's still up. That's even on a laptop with a small resolution.
Some of the ad content I've seen looks like interesting stuff, anyway. |

Edited by: Heyte on 11/03/2008 03:12:21 Of all the things to complain about, the laggy forums, the fact that you have to click back, back, and back again and then refresh to be able to refer to the thread you wanted to post on after logging in, lag, etc., you chose this? Seriously, man, wow.
First of all, why would you choose to complain about this? It's just a splash of pretty colours, and it's different each time (tv ads are ANNOYING, they're repetitive and they go by the same damn ad trends as every other commercial). Second of all, why in hell would you find this as something to complain about? I just don't understand it. There's a lot worse things in the world. You're willing to pay more money? Hey, how about you give that extra money to me, because I or someone else could sure as hell use it (ie., a single mother, foster child). Third of all... why? Ok, maybe you get the point.
But seriously, I mean wow. Just wow. I'm surprised that I haven't found you among those more likely to whine about how slow and repetitive the progression of this game can be or how painful it is to lose your spaceship.
So really. Just suck it up, or quit, it's that simple. Or do me a favour, refuse to buy febreeze, smarties (the singers are f***ing hell to my ears), or any other product that has a really annoying, very frequent jingle-style commercial on tv.
And finally, if you find ccp a 'slimeball outfit' then you haven't even taken a glimpse at the real world. Some companies are truly *******s. And no, I'm not only referring to employment policy or Enron.
