No offence but if 10M is pocket change...a thorax loss wouldnt hurt that much.
PS: It was entirely T1 as well
QFT. I previously said I had 10b, when in fact I only have 6.5b + ~1b in my mineral reserve ; earned by a variety of methods, including research agents, mining, level 4 missions, trading, salvage/rig construction.
As for people earning 10b a day trading in jita with 100m initial investment, I can't imagine how that's possible, so I think it's BS - or maybe I'm just crap at gouging the market.....
I have to say that earning isk is so easy compared to how it used to be. It took me months and months of playing to break 100m, back in 2003/2004.

If you have a friend who can do the mission for you, you just gang him when he's done it and he completes with "5 members or less" option - giving you a share of the LP, rewards and standings increase. This is a fast track to level up an alt.

Post #1380124815 by future uber-faction-fit CNR pilot #23101257 about needing more isk.
I rarely have over 100mil in my wallet at any given time and I've played almost 2 years now. Ratted to 350mil in a week, went and bought 2 recons and a HAC, now back to 100mil in my wallet and not shooting another NPC for a few months.
Who needs isk when you have a ship already? ------------

I hate to say it but mining in 0.0 is a good way to make a ton of isk. Billions and billions can be made in a weekend if you have 5 or 6 buddies.
Once you get all that isk a good way to spend it is on decent blueprint originals, then after you get a few of those the money train never stops.
People like to point out that the whole idea is to get a better time/isk ratio... Just remember that's time you spend online to isk.
If you wanna keep your character relatively pure (skill wise) then work on the marketing skills for a few months and place buy orders and sell orders. That however has a pretty sharp learning curve. So at first the returns are abysmal but after a few months of using LOTS of time to see what sells in your area the time/isk ratio decreases exponentially. Some tips about marketing.
Tech I and named items... -Always place small, 5-10 item, buy orders, if they don't return items in a week or two they never will. Plus you can always go back and buy more, you'll be competing with others so your price will change often. -Don't get stuck on the same items all the time. It's called diversifying and that's how real people do it in the real world. Helps mitigate risk. -Try to place sell orders in LARGE volume. If you can move the items to a regional sell point do it and sell as many of the same thing as possible in one order. Makes a better isk/order ratio. And buyers like being able to get however many they want at one time. -Leave sell orders alone. If you put it up on the market for a price that people once happily paid (as long as it's not a ship or techII) then more than likely it'll sell. Don't drop prices until the average item price goes down at least 15%. Or until someone is selling more volume than you for a lower price. -Finally, the real money is made is cheap ratted items. This "throw away" stuff for one character is good money for others. All those times you just sold quick to get rid of... There you have it. Though it doesn't do bad in low sec either.
Tech 2 items and ships... -Go to another region preferably deep in empire and try to find a station/system where people are manufacturing said item(s). -Place a reasonable buy orders at that station/system (in the largest quantities you can afford). You want the manufacturer to make money. -If the industry man bites you can take what you buy to a region on the edge of 0.0 and sell it. Lots and lots of it. Or better yet haul it up to a 0.0 station and sell it. -Most importantly SELL IT QUICK. Quantity is nice but generally the price goes down too quick in the tech II market to just sit on stock. You may find yourself selling in lonetrek one day and then selling the rest of your haul in tash-murkon a few days later. It can be more work the more stuff you have. But it's worth it. -Last, keep your manufacturer happy, bring him minerals and techII components so he won't move around. Maybe even chat with him to work out a trade agreement via contracts.
Tech II stuff is where the big bucks are at but you should start with named tech I loot to familiarize yourself with your market. Plus it's cheap. Returns are usually should be 100-200% but that only means you're making a few mil per sell order. In the techII world you might be selling for a return of 15-20% but you're making 20-30mil per order easy. Plus the market for them is more constant. Generally the price just goes down.
The biggest rule. People are lazy. Manufacturers don't wanna leave station, PvEers and PvPers want quick money on the loot they take, and everyone wants to buy everything they need as close to them as possible. Take advantage of that and you'll be rich in a month.
I could go on but I'll shut up now. *-------------------------* This is not a good sig. |

Great advice. I used to do this, mostly due to impatience. If I didn't sell it in a few hours (or days) and some guys posted orders beating mine, I'd follow the crowd down. Sometimes you have to play a longer game I guess.

Or, buy up all the undercutter's stock, and raise your own price by 50% (or more). Sometimes it pays to be ruthless. ------------------- "Kill a man one is a murderer; kill a million, a conqueror; kill them all, a God." -- Jean Rostand |

What you need to do (and it doesn't really matter that much how you do it) is to make the money you have in your wallet work for you rather than just have it sitting there. In other words, invest it and create profit. In some ways it's similar to investing in real life, the more risk you take the bigger the potential profit.
Trading is one way and if you start with small items (in volume) you can start with relatively little money. Profits will be low but you'll learn the game. You can go looking for cheap sell orders (buy-low-sell-high) or you can place cheap buy orders and sell them high. However most people are not patient enough and want to make profit NOW, rather than have it sit around for a week or so before it sells. However try to limit hauling as much as possible, after all, it takes lots of time and time is money. You will need the trading skills but they are easy to learn. But trading like this does entail some risks, prices might drop after all. You may even have to sit on some stock for a while until prices go up again. As you make more money you learn the trade game you can either move into more expensive items or increase volume. Oh and on a side note, be careful with investing heavily around patches, in case mods/ships are nerfed and prices change.
Another method is to invest in T1 production, which is relatively safe (profits are low but so is the risk). Mineral values change but they are relatively stable. Essentially more work, less profits but also much less risk.
If you have the right skills and enough financial means you can bankroll T2 invention and make money from that. Granted, T2 ships are not for the very new players, the skill demands are pretty high. But modules and such are not too difficult to train up for and if you pick the right ones you can make a nice profit. You could also try to team up with an older player that knows how it works and has the skills to come up with a joint venture idea.
Besides all this you can still easily run your missions. I spend about 40 minutes per day managing my T2 invention and production lines (I do use 2 characters), getting supplies etc. I produce several T2 ships per day and the profit ranges from 30 to 80 million ISK per day, just from the work in those 40 minutes. That's not counting whatever money during the rest of the time.
However don't think I have a big fat wallet, and that goes for many players. I usually have much less than a billion in the wallet, but I have billions tied up in invention, production runs, T1 BPC's I buy and parts, minerals and T2 materials. And that's not counting my ship collection in the hangar. But as I expand my efforts more money is added to my 'business' and the wallet doesn't really go up. Again just like real life, most capital is tied up in daily operations, stock and investments.
So do I have billions? Yes. Are they in cash and readily accessible? Hello no, they are tied up in my business ventures. If I ever do want to cash out, I simply stop inventing, finish building what I have (which will take a few weeks) and I will have billions in the wallet.
Any of these methods will work, but again the real trick is volume. Don't try to look for a single item that gives you a huge profit. Instead look to make 1 million profit off of 100 items. Oh and to get started, see how much money you can stand to lose or not use for a while. For example you might need 170 million as a reserve and to finance mission ammo, you could decide to invest the remaining 200. And you will start out small, but it will grow over time.
In essence, you're kind of running a business. And it always takes time for a business to be succesful and to make money.

You forgot to ask, not only 'how' but also in 'what timeframe'. I can make hundreds of millions a day ratting, less running level 4's, and making more on the market (but that require money invested, and risk involved of course, market fluctuation and people with the same idea).
Took me 3 months to get into my first battlecruiser. Now my alt started off making her first billion before she even had finished the 1-2 months spent training learning. Then again she started off with +3 implants and some money to play the trade game.
Level4 is solid stable income. Ratting is a bit faster if you got nice 0.0, with the chance of high valued loot. The timesink here is logistics. Trading earns you most money but takes sick amounts of time to get into for starters, at least if you are dedicated, and you need a buffer of cash to play with. You can of course spend very little time on it but then you make less and suddenly ratting and lv4-missions seems like a better choice. As for mining, production, anything industrial.. I have no clue.

Nope, the problem in the game is that those that are billionaires made their isk by monopolizing certain aspects of the game in a rather abusive manner.. it was pretty much an abuse of game mechanics.
A few years ago, before invention, certain players 'farmed' up research alts and completely HOGGED the BPO lottery.
I know for a fact ONE corporation in several lotteries was given amost every single high isk selling T2 BPO simply because of the massive amount of research points they had towards the lottery.
No player could compete with that. Worse yet, these player dominated and controlled the T2 market for a LONG time. You wanted a covert ops cloak? A T2 gun? You had to pay THEIR price because nobody else had the T2 BPO for it.
Result? these few players and corps became so insanely rich that by the time CCP plugged that game mechanic exploit the damage was too serious to be fixed. Some of those players arent in the game anymore, some simply switched their wealth to other characters, others became corporations and alliance owners.
The isk difference between players is just too big to have the game be enjoyable enough. There'd be a lot more pewpew if there wasnt such a huge penalty for losing a ship. Only those with billions in their wallet can afford to go pvp'ing every day with battleships or faction ships.. the rest have to much it in severely outperformed t1 ships and suffer for the loss of each one.. and its why pvp is such a rare occurence unless you in 0.0 and happen to be in a gank squad or in the receiving end of one: nobody wants to lose their ships except those with such insane amount of isk they dont care about losing it.
