The thing I learned late about lev 4's in my hyperion was to get the t2 drone skills up for the frigates. Cut missioning time in half. Also, use a webber and target painter, and ccc rigs.

I *might* have had a TS rep for some of the fights. But no crazy stuff like centus x-type or similar. I did make a very nice faction Hype right after I finished making those vids, and it lasted about a week. Got blobbed by a ton of Russians (24+) and it died. Had a nice little officer rep fit too. That's always how it goes when I fit nice ships lol. They die quick and early. The plain jane ones last forever.

So, this might also seem like a silly question, but how do you obtain a faction Battleship? Level 4 missions?

Like a Navy Mega? Loyalty Points, then purchase one in the LP store. So yes, with L4 missions. Or just do it the easy way and buy one off of contracts.

ive had 2 navy mega's! they rock! first one i bougth from loyalty points n lost couse i was stupid and flew in to a gatecamp... the other one i bougth at escrow. best way is spending ur loyalty points on stuff like large armor reppers/ hardners etc then sell em and just buy u a navy mega;P hehe 3 caldari xl shield boosters and u can afford a navy mega;)

Originally by: azamy Alright im going for a Hyperion. But I am curious, what kind of set up should I go for? How good of a combat ship is it? Can it hold its own in 0.0 combat?
As suggested, a MegaT or a Dominix will serve you better in low sec / null sec due to the cost but you won't be in a BS beforey you have about 5-6 million SP. I'd suggest getting in a Thorax with this setup:
[Thorax, Solo Rax] Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane I Damage Control II 1600mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Medium Armor Repairer II
'Langour' Drive Disruptor I J5 Prototype Warp Inhibitor I 10MN MicroWarpdrive I
Light Neutron Blaster II, Void S Light Neutron Blaster II, Void S Light Neutron Blaster II, Void S Light Neutron Blaster II, Void S Light Neutron Blaster II, Void S
[empty rig slot] [empty rig slot] [empty rig slot]
Hammerhead I x5
It's not very SP intensive and it's awesome. Burn to the enemy with MWD and throw web scram on when within range, unleash drones and blasters and use repper untill you hit 30% cap, then stop repping.

I Disagree with some prior posters' description of the Hyperion as a general purpose ship to use when you aren't specialized at anything. The Hyperion fits some very specific roles better than the two cheaper Gallente BS's and worse for all others. It has to either make good use of the 8th turret hardpoint by putting lots of damage mods in a gank setup, or make good use of the repair bonus with dual large repairers and auxilliary nano rigs.
My pirate Hyperion is fit as follows: High: 4x Ion Blaster II 4x Electron Blaster II Medium: MWD 24km Scrambler Web Hvy Cap Booster Sensor Booster Low: 2x LARII DCII 2x EANMII MFSII Rigs: 3x Auxilliary Nano
With this set up it tanks and tackles better than a Mega, but does significantly less damage with only 1 damage mod and fewer drone allowance. Performs the role of the heavy tackler better than a Myrmidon, but I still keep Myrmidons around because the improvement isn't always worth the liability a rigged Hyperion represents.

Edited by: Garmon on 19/03/2008 15:31:34 Hey arifel!
Anyway I'll throw in a gatecamping Hyperion setup, not for proper pvp
8 Neutron blaster II 4 sensor booster II 1 warp disruptor 1 LAR II, 1 DC II, 3 MFS II, 1 MFS/EANM 3 of those rigs that decreases locking time ( they dont have the stacking penalty with the sensor boosters ) 4 garde II
Locks frigates before they warp, insta kill haulers __________________________________ Garmonation - Rupture fun video

Originally by: azamy Thanks for all the replies and builds guys. I understand that at the least it will be a few months perhaps before i pilot it. Right now i am using a Brutix while i train Navigation, high speed manoevering, after burner, electronics, propulsion jamming and warp drive operation. Until all those are trained up to a level of my liking i am not going to buy a Battleship, like someone stated before, I just want to have a goal to set, and hyp was it. Will be at least 2 months before you see me in it :p. The brutix i have is fitted with blasters, so I am getting used to that style as we speak. Again, thank you for all the positive comments. And Steve, Hopefully in a few months ill get the chance to pod kill you. : )
well imo the hyperion is an aweful ship, many people use them but most the people who have replied have more sp than sense and a blindness to the fact they have spent several years of their lives getting to this stage (look who's talking : / ). but anyways, i assume you wont be doing any pvp for a long time and truthfully you wont do well lol. My flatmate went pvping when he was a noob and gets excited when he attacks somebody in a noob ship in lowsec, i recently saw his kills to deaths, he's still living it down.
anyways so I don't derail this thread any more:
hyperion is a harsher version of the megathron in terms of most things, it has a rep bonus but a weak capacitor, nowhere near enough grid and a gimped drone bay. the megathron is one of the most skill intensive BS in the game after the typhoon (phoon isn't really important here, you will understand soon enough).
For a start, as in in within the next few months, I would recommend flying a dominix, it will be much more forgiving to your level of skill points since it relies primarily on drones thus doesn't have a lot of the fitting problems a lot of newer people have since you shouldn't have many guns on it. Later on when you have better skills fitting guns on a dominix can make it even more awesome.
Also its worth pointing out that on a megathron depending on skills, maybe 30 - 40% of your damage can come from drones (yes this does mean a dominix can match a hyperion for damage easily [it just cant tank at the same time])
a good fitting for a dominix would be something along the lines of:
highs: (not really important) drone link augmenters 1 gun for agro (preferably a laser since it has no ammo usage) tractor beams salvagers (its generally acknowledged that you should have a 1 to 1 ratio or more tractor beams [here I would like to point out that this is not tyhe topic of the thread])
meds: 5 cap recharger II (cap recharge is where you want the best mods imo, cap recharge II make such a massive difference compared to their tech 1 varients) OR 4 cap recharge II 1 100mn Afterburner (use a LIF, they're very cheap) OR 3 cap recharge II 1 cap booster 1 100mn afterburner
lows: 2 large armour repairer 4 hardeners 1 capacitor power relay (again dont skimp on the cap, get a beta reactor control version or a tech 2)
drones: 5 ogres 5 hammerheads OR 5 hobgoblins It cant hurt to have spares here, I said use ogres because they do the most damage, but you will find out about damage types and the balance between doing more damage and the damage of the correct type (if indeed you haven't already)
rigs: (when you can afford it) depending on your choices with cap modules above will be a mix of capacitor control circuits (likely at least 1) and auxiliary nano pumps
For your first time around, take this to some level 3 missions, you shouldnt have much trouble, aproach level 4's cautiously, with low skillpoints many missions require a degree of tactical awareness. In level 4's http://eve-survival.org/missions/ will be your friend

Vostok has it right. I'm a relatively new player (3 months), and I've been flying a Dominix for a little over 6 weeks now. It is definitely the way to get your foot in the door with L4s. I've spent the last month training skills that overlap between the Domi and the Hyperion. Originally I was going to use a Mega as my next step, but I can't fit one that was cap stable, had a high defense, and could put out a reasonable amount of damage. The Hyperion fits all those requirements, so I went with it instead.
Dominix High: 1x Medium NOS 4x Dual 2500 Prototype Railguns, Antimatter L/Iron L 1x Drone Link Augmentor
Med: 5x Cap Recharger II
Lows: 4x Rat specific Hardeners 2x LAR II 1x EANM II or DC II
Drones: Mission specific (10x large, 10x med, 5x small)
Rigs: 3x CCC
Notes: I'm almost cap stable here. I need the NOS to even it out if I'm using Antimatter, but that will change once I get Energy Systems Operations 4. Alternatively, just use 3 guns. I can afk the vast majority of missions with this.
Hyperion High: 8x 350mm Prototype Railgun I AM L/Iridium L
Med: 5x CR II
Low: 4x Rat specific Hardener 1x LAR II 1x EANM II or DC II
Drones: mission specific (4 heavies OR 10 mediums)
Rigs: 1x CCC 2x Aux Nano Pump
Notes: I'm still tweaking this one. It isn't as forgiving as my Domi, but with implants I can rep 1.1k armor every 12 seconds or so. The sheer amount of armor (10k) and shields (7.5k) and hull (10k) make this a beast. I'm working on gunnery skills so that I can target/snipe from further out, and drone skills so that I can use them past the initial 45km limit. Also, if you're acting as fire support for someone else, swapping out all the lows for MagStab IIs will increase your DPS by 50% (in my case, from 300 to 450). Not bad for a 3 month old char :)
To the OP: Keep in mind that this game is open-ended, so don't be in a rush to hit BSes. There is a LOT more to do, and LOT of ways to make money. Also, while you're on the way up, train 1 rank of destroyers + 3 ranks of salvaging + 3 ranks of science so that you can use a destroyer as a salvager. |

I love the altposter who acts like he has been at 20m+ SP his whole life and never had a trial account and glanced in awe at a Raven or a Dominix...
The most satisfying part of EVE was hopping into my raven six months after I saw one for the first time on my way to do Worlds Collide in my Merlin. I swear that feeling is up there with graduating from school or any other major accomplishment in life.
Quit being *******s.

Personally, for PvE, I would rank the Gallente BS as: Dominix (easiest, preferable), Hyperion (reasonable, be cautious), Megathron (hard to fit, it wants to be both the Hyp and the Domi at the same time. Use for PvP!)
Once you have good skills you'll find that Hyp sucks for missions. 350s quite frankly have **** range, and you don't need all the tank a Hyp gives you in 80% of the missions. IF you do one where you need the tank, THEN use the Hyp or just a cheap dual rep Domi - no one forces you to stick to the same ship for all missions. You can fit a cap stable 3 hardener 1 rep tank on a Mega with 7x 425 IIs + ABII with a tracking comp on, FYI - which is enough for about all missions where you don't get dumped into huge initial aggro, if you don't make stupid mistakes.
31km vs 41km optimal with a TC2/antimatter and range script is a rather huge difference. You can't fit 8 425s + LAR without fitting mods on a Hyp, half/half 425s/350s work, but then you have to mix ammo. Plus it's hard to get cap stable with 1 LAR / 2 mag stab / 3 hardener tank, while having 2 mids for TC/AB - not to mention 350s with 1 TC2 with tracking script track worse on a Hyp than 425s with the same TC do on a Mega.
And last but not least .. Hyp does have slightly higher gun dps even when mixing guns to fit, but Mega can easily use 4 sentry drones / 5 lights to have superior/same dps (depending on dmg type) in drone control range (54-57 km, realistically, which should be vs nearly everything).
But, yeah, for low SP Domi is the way. You'll need those drone skills to get everything out of your Mega later, anyway. |

I hear you man. I rember first and second day i played i saw the Megathron and Raven compared to puny me and i said to myself i will get in that as fast as i can. 2 1/2 months i am in one then i lose it : P. but it was out of my system. But yeah go for the domiit is an awesome ship not good on looks but it will more than compensate for bad skill. noted i never used one but i am going to since i was strong caldari but want to go with my race. so going to get in one while i train hot gun skills for my hyperion which i already have. but on quick fit i ran some set ups with no guns in high for domi just using drones and i had sligthly more dps than my raven. that what i felt like and i have over a mill sp in missiles.so the domi will love you the best.

Yes, the Hyperion is a fine ship that can survive in 0.0.
Focus a lot on training skills in "Mechanic", in order to take advantage of it's armor tanking bonuses. A properly fit Hyperion has a very nice tank.
