Alright im going for a Hyperion. But I am curious, what kind of set up should I go for? How good of a combat ship is it? Can it hold its own in 0.0 combat?

Edited by: ThatCpp on 14/03/2008 08:06:33 The hyperion is a very versatile ship, I've used it in both 0.0 as well as low-sec, in PVP and PVE(although never tried ratting with it).
Its rather easy to fit one with both a good tank as well as good gank, and will still have room for tackling gear and MWD which are essential for small gang.
I fit my PVP hype with... 6x modal mega ion, 2x modal mega electron
Web, scram, Quad lif, Heavy cap booster II, Med cap booster II
2x LAR II, 2x EANM II, DCU II, Magstab II
Rigs: 2x Aux Nano, anti-EXP pump
The set-up puts out a considerable amount of damage and maintains a formidable tank. I recommend the hyperion to people who don't have exceptionally high SP as they haven't specialised in drones or gunnery yet, with specialised skills the other gallente ships are probably more effective for your isk. The hyperion is a fantastic battleship that is capable of performing well in most combat situations.

Pretty accurate description really. With skills you'll find you are able to fit a full rack of T2 guns and a T2 MWD but it's the same thing dressed up. A worthwhile ship, does ok in fleet though if you have excellent rail skills and absolutely neeeed a fleet BS take the week or 2 to train Caldari BS to 4 for the Rokh.
Sig removed due to being too freaking awsome. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Deckard Cain |

He's asking a question so he can plan ahead for his skill-training accordingly. He did not ask for sarcastic criticism. Rather than doing so, perhaps you might be more productive by answering his original question.

There are a lot of workable setups for any battleship, and yes the hyp can hold it's own rather well. The guy above posted cookie cutter dual rep, so I think it's fitting I hand you the cookie cutter hybrid tank.

Heavy ECM drones or Berserker II for drones (I like Berserker for a little damage type variation). 2 x aux nano pump, 1 x nanobot accel or 3 x trimark (my pick) or a mix for rigs.

TBH, the Hyp will be very expensive, and going lowsec / 0.0 will get you killed a few times. For PVE the Hyp is an absolute beast, but for PVP I *really* would suggest the MegaThron. You need the same skills, it was better tracking and a little bit less tank, but for starters it's HALF THE PRICE.
Then, when you're comfortable with the Mega, you'll probably buy a Navy Mega next, instead of the Hyp.
I did the same though : Went straight for the Hyp. A very expensive lesson.

Edited by: Sokratesz on 14/03/2008 13:43:27 I'd advice you to start off with a thorax cruiser and get used to the style of play that comes with blasters. Then after a month or 2 have a look at the battleships again.
*edit*
A question like 'can it hold it's own in 0.0 combat' makes me shiver. In Eve, ships are nothing but tools and you will lose them very often compared to how often 'characters' 'die' in other MMO's. Focusing on something very expensive at an early stage will lead to great dissapointment.

The Hyperion is a very good ship, I suggest you go for it as soon as possible. 3 Light neutron blaster I 3 Heavy neutron blaster I 2 small smartbomb 100mn afterburner, 10mn after burner, 1mn afterburner, stasis webifier, target painter 1 large armor repairer 1 medium armor repairer 1 small armor repairer 3 warp core stabs 5 Acolyte as drones
Basicaly, the light guns are a counter for small ships, heavy neutrons counter for heavier ship. I suggest you use the smartbombs when engaged with fast moving interceptors. 100mn afterburner is a counter for battleships, 10mn for cruisers and the 1mn for frigates, it's vital you use them when necessary, target painter is to paint the target so its harder for them to go invisible, and the stasis webifier is to slow down their propulsion. 1 large armor repairer for battleships, medium for cruisers and small for frigates, the 3 warp core stabbs are a counter for the warp disrupting ships. Versatility is something every ship in this game needs, I suggest you go to amamake aswell to do your npcing, yesterday we had a npcing group and we made 400m in an hour __________________________________

lol, nice. Anyway, a two week old character should not be in a battleship. Unless you want to lose it and start working on saving up isk from scratch again... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Dude your settup doesnt make sense.
You have a rep bonus and only 6 lows, and your trying to rep, have a plate tank, Damage (with blasters and mag stab and antimatter), and you have really low resistances with big holes all at the same time ? It doesnt work
With 2 plates and 3 rigs you are going to be very slow, so getting into web range is going to be bloody hard. With the small resistances your hp buffer is gonna drop like a stone to anything that does decent dps.
And for the guy who wants a battleship dont do this settup ^^ , if you want a plate tank , dominix or megathron are much better for it. Hyperion is a much better active tanker with 2 reps and resistances.

Hi, when you mean "b i t c h on heat", do you mean it tanks like the b itch is on heat, as in a dog, or do you mean when the Hyperion has put its armor tanking modules into heat? thx __________________________________

Good ambitious, see you in about 6-8 months in that hyp because that is how long it will take you to fly it half decently.
By then I am sure you will have a better handle of the game and know what it does, etc. If you want to know for training train: armor tanking, blasters, gunnery, and drones (drones can be last).

I don't see what's gank about it.
You have 2 Nos and not a single damage mod. Just a usual nossing ship. Just fyi, nos is not the answer to everything anymore, and you will die terribly with that setup to a mega who knows when to inject.

Edited by: Taguchi Hiroko on 14/03/2008 17:14:24 for PvP Hyp, plenty of setups here already. Blasters work great on Hyperion.
here's a PvE for ya, lv4, plexes, 0.0 rats are cakewalk in this one
8 X 350mm rail t2 3 X cap recharger t2 100mn ab t2 heavy cap injector t2 2 X EANM t2 DCU t2 2 X LAR t2 mag stab t2
rig it with 2 aux nano pump and 1 pg rig.
load it with t2 med and small drones for frig sized rats (no heavies needed)
you might need implants to fit it all, and maxed out fitting skills.
reps about 2800 per cycle with overall nearly 70% or more (lil less with explosive) resist, and with a med sec container u can hold up to 20 cap boost 800 and 2000 ammo (I use antimatter or spike, depends on range, remember to put a sensor boost t2 on mid while dropping one cap recharger t2 if you go for spike). Gallente PvE at its finest. Hyp is indeed a versatile ship. :)

Thanks for all the replies and builds guys. I understand that at the least it will be a few months perhaps before i pilot it. Right now i am using a Brutix while i train Navigation, high speed manoevering, after burner, electronics, propulsion jamming and warp drive operation. Until all those are trained up to a level of my liking i am not going to buy a Battleship, like someone stated before, I just want to have a goal to set, and hyp was it. Will be at least 2 months before you see me in it :p. The brutix i have is fitted with blasters, so I am getting used to that style as we speak. Again, thank you for all the positive comments. And Steve, Hopefully in a few months ill get the chance to pod kill you. : )

There's more to PVP than cookie cutter dual reps that melt under focused fire. Hybrid tanks are tried and true, with a lot of advantages I won't get into. But this is largely why I generally don't share setups on the eve-o forums. 8)
