we have a corp
and we give someone the money to buy a new ship, thought that was the way to do it
the person got the ship and resigned.
what is the best way to go about doing this so that it will not happen again ?

So hunt them down and destroy the ship that they stole! Word will spread not to **** with you.

Basically, there is no way. "Corporate" espionage is a "part of the game"
kill the bastard.

I'd definately agree with Turin. There's nothing you can do about it except kill him.

Sorry to hear that Deno..
Perhaps you might do what many other corps do in that we have a manditory 5 day probation period..
The potential member must be active in the corp at least 5 days before we consider investing in them..

I would even consider 5 days too short. Someone can buddy up to you for a week just to steal you blind. You can grant them access to non critical items to borrow until their recruit phase is complete. That will be a just reward to the recruits for hanging in there.

Deno; Put his name here on the Forum or put him out for a Bounty in the game, and we will take care of him!

Bounty is probably the best option, because if you go and kill him, you are going to take a security rating hit. Chances are though you are probably screwed, cuz he'll just transfer the ship to another character and delete the one you knew about.
The new hangar/corp security system is definitely an improvement, although its still too easy for someone to rob from a corp and get away with it.

I think that ships should also have serial numbers that you can search for and put out a bounty on. This would allow you to track any ship even if the using it changes. It would also allow you to track Corps ships used by several members etc.

you can still pay someone else to kil him for you though - just unofficial - not via the bounty system. It happens in real life all the time... :)

Get the money back (make sure you charge him interest as well)
Then kill him or put an 'unofficial' bounty on him regardless
That'll teach him for trying it on in the first place

I would suggest keeping the large purchases within the group of people who you trust.
Everyone has the ability to take what they have in their hangar/wallet and scurry off, and you can't do anything about it once it's in their possession, other than demand it back or destroy them. This is the way it's intended, from a design point of view.
There is a new security status system in place for corporations you may want to take advantage of; basically a set of different level corp hangars in which you can store equipment of differing levels of importance, only giving the people you trust access to the good stuff. --
