guys please dont make it harder for people to go pirate and more of a pentalty of attacking players....dont make this game into EQ but strike a balance between eq and Shadowbane....dont not let these whining carebears(people who dont like pvp combat) turn you away from pvp! I for one like the way it is now. If you start nerfing the pvp people will leave.

I killed a positive security player last night in a 1.0 starting sector, 25k from a new player station. It was frightfully easy.
Not even shadowbane allows you to gank new players. Change is required for the health of the game. Right now, EVE allows more 'griefing' than shadowbane does.

LOL! Whining carebears? It sounds like you are the whiner here Deathdancer. It is not a matter of "carebearing" the game, but rather making it more realistic. Do you think you would have the same freedom to kill unprovoked in the real world as you do in Eve? Don't cry, b*tch, whine, and complain when the devs make it a slight bit harder to live your life as a pirate. If you don't enjoy the challenge, then you are not a true pirate, but "just another griefer (tm)."

Yeah, don't be like EQ! CCP doesn't want 500k subscribers! That would suck! BOOOOO!
Its easy to be a "pirate" when its basically just "baby punch" (think of how hard it is to punch a baby in a crib).
Let's see the real men, the real pirates sack up when its ACTUALLY just as hard to make it as a pirate as it is as any other profession.
I don't want it harder, just the same difficulty as anything else.

You can pvp all you want, in 0.0 zones... Its even easier there if you let the guy who you attack be under attack of npc's __________________________

It should be possible to kill/assasinate players in high security systems. (like you can go to the front of a police station, pull a gun and shoot somebody)
But there should be possibility that when you are escaping that system and you encounter police vessels, they could take you in custody. Police could use jamming / scrambling to prevent villain to escape.
Few hours of play time in Concord prison (no skills trained there) could lower crime.
And of course ticket of 100k-1000k isk.

you *can* go into a 'police station' in Eve and kill someone, just don't expect to escape.
Same as these griefers doing 'columbine' style runs through their old school systems. They can start killing people, but they should probably never get out alive.

Im not saying all people who go PvP are like this but my experiece of PvP is its usually very one sided.
90% of the time its a veteran player with a badass char jumping targets who have no chance of fighting back, it seems to be even better if the target has nowhere to run and there are no reprecussions.
In my opinion PvP should be alowed but as long as you stick to the security rated areas the reprecussions should be grave.
Lets say you attack a player in a 1.0 zone, you should imediately get locked out of all stations in that system and get a cascading effect in the neigboring ones.
Too much PvP in such zones you might even be locked out of the zones, the gates simply wont let you go in there.
As the security rating drops so should the punishment and in the 0.0 zones you should get no reprecussions.
This way I can chose to risk PvP or stay safe in the "protected areas"
Its actually rather realistic, why would a gate let through a crazed maniac in a planetkiller ship?
Besides veteran players who get their kicks by killing newbies DESERVE to get kicked out of the game.

Lets take a look at history, I read a study on MMO games and wish I could find the link to post hee.
- UO, almost whent under because of PVP In there early days they where PVP everywhere but the citys. This lead to a mentatlity of most players to go najked into the wild so that when you died you loas as little as possible. I rember going out to harvest wood with nothing but a loin cloth and a Axe. Got ganked more time than not, and for what? Wood? 90% they didn't even take the axe off me. UO did a study and found that for every 1 griefer they lost 10 paying customers.
- EQ, has half mill players (or there abouts) and doesn't allow unrestricted PVP. They have gotten a huge number of users. They have a 2 full PVP server and 20 non PVP servers. Which do you think people like? They are effectivly voteing with there $15 a month.
- DAOC, I consider this the best of both world and the corect way of doing PVP IMHO. They have extensive NON PVP areas that a player can work and build up there character before venturing into the RVR area. Once in the RVR area you can not comunicate with the Enemy. They for all intense and purposes VERY good NPC's, and as there is no peniltys for loseing in RVR and everything to gain it is popular. Still I know alot of people that are turned off of DAOC becuse of the PVP. They have a moderate Customer base, not as big as EQ but still growing where EQ is not.
- Shadow Bane. Great game, cool skill sets, neat idea of Guild vs Guild wars. Griefers are ruining it like they did UO. No one likes to spend hours of time working on there character, training skills, to have a group of people that you have no hope of killing come buy and take all you work away. The argument from those that like PVP is "If you don't like it play something else" well the players are again voteing with there $15 a mont and playing something else.
I didn' last the free month, joined a guild and we go our city up. we where working on walls when the uber guild got bane circles. they then proceded to go thru and wipe out every other guild that didn't have bane circles yet. They started with the next furest along guild and worked there way down the list.
I am not going to pay $15 a month to get beaten down every time I try to have a nite of fun game play.
Except for Shadow Bane I have played ecah of the above games for over a year. I believe for PVP to work there must be a area where PVP is not a viable option. this lets the player base build up to where they feel they have fighting chance. DAOC did this with there RVR realms. you need to be 15 to go to the first battle ground. and it is limmited to lv 15-20 this means you will always be fighting someong that is near your level of character and skill. The battle grounds progress to lv 35 where you are tossed into the main RVR. Many players go back to PVE untill they hit 45 and then head back out into the RVR. Like I said it is no fun to be playing and get One-shoted by somone 15 levels higher than you.
And the purpose of games is FUN. so in the end I like the way CPP is makeing the empire space. It is a safe area to work and build up, before venturing out into the unknown beyond. I would even support the implmentation of a reimbersment option that if you get killed in Empire space that you get everything you lost back when the pirate was killed.
I believe the typical griefer is the kind of person that like going out and killing others for the shear plesure of dominating another person. He is not in it for the challenge, he is in it for the suffering he inflicts on others. In real life these people are scorned, and disliked, the same as in game. but in games they are ruining the fun of others.
So in closing call me a carebear if you like but I like PVP when it is my choice to persue it and am aware of what I am risking. If I am trying to earn enought ISK for a new ship I don't want to be jumped by some nut job.
When I want to engage in PVP I will head out 0.0 space and go hunting, It won't be with my best ship or equipment. I will hold that back for dealing with the griefers. You cn make moe money with a cruiser sucking rocks in a 1.0 system than getting killed in PVP. so I am going to mine with my crusier and make many , many ISK case ISk are power in eve.

Well written Sarf.
I suggest that, before people argue for PvP, they take a look at the other MMORPGs that have come before Eve. Generally speaking, those that encourage unrestricted PvP, or even loosely-restricted PvP, tend to do poorly and lose customers. There's only so much humility people can take before they go back to playing Final Fantasy.
I'm not sure I like that tendency myself. But then, Eve is a little different then all of Sarf's examples, because when you lose a ship, particularly an uninsured one, it can take days to replace. Nevermind the skill loss.
If this game didn't have such enormous potential for imbalances on every single aspect of ship performance, and it didn't have issues with people who exploited the imbalances in the system who got to keep everything, this whole argument would be a non-issue.

Good post Sarf.
I do not draw my experience from those games I played the predecessors to this kind of games.
MUD (Multi User Dungeons), pure text based games. I would hate for this game with all its potential to become a haven for some of the -*deleted by Minimatar decency council*- that romed those games.
It would be good for the designers to take in the experience from those games aswell, pure PK (player killing) MUD's were never as successfull as the mixed. On the other hand the non PK MUD's werent all that successfull ither.
