Edited by: Ioci on 20/03/2008 15:36:10 Amarr ships are fine. It doesn't take any longer to be flying an Amarr command ship than it does to be flying a Caldari or Gallente one and the Damnation is as tough as they come. They are linear, like everything in Eve. I fly Amarr, have from day one for the most part. I can also fly Gallente and Caldari ships and I still prefer Amarr. What cripples them is the same thing that cripples all ships in Eve. They get ganked.
Any nooblet out there who hates on Amarr, go one on one. U will find they have what it takes. Now forget you know that because it will provide you no use in Eve.
Add On: What nihlanth said is true as well. Missions are going to be tough for Amarr but if you stick to Sansha and Bloods, you are fine. Go looking for the Gurrista? Your going to get hammered, bad. |

I've started with and flown a number of Amarr t1 ships, and the solution for me was to cross-train to other races. Whining about their lack of versatility does nothing to help complete a mission quickly.
It takes a lot of time to train up to the better Amarr t2 ships, until then the options available are making me a better pilot.
Amarrians who complain about their ships should just pipe down and revel in the fact they are Amarr, and just wake up in clone vats a little more often. No big deal, really.

Amarr are either extremely good or 'average', depending on how they're flown and where the SP is invested.
Unfortunately, all the whiners seem to want them to be the same damage/tank/capuse/solopwnability as Gallente and be able to select their damage as well as Caldari, whilst maintaining their superior range.
Abso v Astarte is now a sad fight to watch ...

I'm surprised that theres almost no whining about Amarr ships, personally I've only flown em a few times and they feel craptastic. I can't get used to the guns eating so much damn cap and being em/therm, the ship bonuses on "cap use of guns" makes me want to spit.

Originally by: Raketefrau My only remaining Amarr gripe is the one I had before this patch - the Amarr recons are based on NOS/Neut, which has been nerfed pretty drastically for several patches now.
All other races have recons with un-nerfed bonuses. Hell, even the Caldari recon ships have been re-boosted after jamming was nerfed, so why can't Amarr get the same kind of lovin'?
If you think the Curse is in any way broken, you're dead wrong.

Edited by: nihlanth on 20/03/2008 16:26:40 I have over 4.6m sp in gunnery (lasers), good engineering, a 5% eng implant and I love flying the Amarr BS's, and I havent even started flying the abbadon yet which is supposed to be one of the best battleships. Without my implant though, it would be almost impossible to fit my Apoc the way I want it to (megabeams, faction repper and AB).
The ships are pretty much fine now - but I havent flown the curse/pilgrim yet so I cant comment on those.
Prophecy needs another look though, because I dont see a reason to fly that over a harbinger in any situation.

Ha ha. You've only flew them a few times (without the necessary skills quite likely), so you have no realistic idea of their performance at all.
I'm quite sure I could jump in a Amarr ship with a few weeks of skill training and do a decent job at it. Personally, I'm tempted to get some skills to try out the Harbringer once Battlecruisers V finishes. I've been messing about with the Punisher, but I don't like the lack of mids that much though, even though it's a very nasty frigate tankwise.
My Amarr skills are all at 4/5 up to battlecruisers, including gunnery, fittings etc.
They just feel like pigs.
I'm uncomfortable with how fast they suck down cap, it feels like someone could just neut you and you'd be helpless, or you have to fly around with a half rack of nos and t2 minnie drones for exp damage, basically use it as a Vampire boat.
But if you're gonna fly a NOS boat, might as well go gallente and get better results.
Punisher is a good example of what's wrong.
Better yet, how bout that Amarr inty with 2 mid slots.
In short, they look real perdy and you could come up with all kinds of fits to make them good.
But you can use those fits on other race ships and get better results so why bother.

Yeah you're right, Amarr is fine, because the Prophecy makes good bait.

We recently got some new players to our corp and after a few weeks it has clearly shown where the Amarr ships problems are.
Our new applicants are mostly caldari and amarr, and while the Caldari are doing lvl 4 missions after a few weeks in small groups of drakes the new Amarrian players are either still struggling in lvl 2 or have allready died several times in lvl 3 missions with BCs. We are trying to educate them as good as possible about how to fly and fit Amarr ships but they seems to be in a massive disadvantage compared to the Caldari pilots.
Amarr T1 ships in use for missions obviously need more skillpoints, more know-how about missions (damagetype triggers etc) and much more insight about how eve works (tracking optimal etc) compared to especially Caldari T1 ships.
I guess the frustration from new players about this, is what is being noticed in the forum as "whining".

Unlike other classes such as Cald and Gal, you can't just jump right into Amarr and run out to do missions and PVP with low skills.
A newb in a raven with 2Mil SP can run missions just fine or grind belts with ease. A newb in a Domi with 2Mil SP can send in the drones and hold their own. A newb in a Geddon with 2Mil SP is going to be cannon fodder very soon.
On the other hand, break past that 10Mil SP barrier, level up support skills, get more PG, better cap control and mount some HPLIIs on a Harbinger and the tune changes. Same with a sniper Apoc with 8 modulated Tachs or many of the other mid range Amarr ships. If you have the support skills up, they are great. If you are flying Ravens fresh out of flight school and try to load up a harbinger for "fun" yeah...it's going to suck. If you are fresh off out of the station and flying Amarr, you are going to see your buddier with similar points pwning in other class ships and wish yours were the same...give it time....eventually, your SP will allow that to happen...not in all cases, Amarr still ahve some issues, but in the right ships...Amarr is a great class. Right. You can let a drake fly itself and punch F1 through F7 on occasion. In a harbinger, you have to be at the keyboard, balancing cap with repairs and DPS. If you are not on the ball, you are dead. Amarr is far less forgiving. However, once they get those othre support skills trained to 3 or 4, that because less and less and issue and eventually, they, like me can run lvl3s in a Harbinger and not even drop below 80% armor, all while killing the feild clean at 10K range with a MWD running most of the time. The Cald pilots meanwhile...will already be in Ravens. Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Kreul Intentions ([email protected])

Why do we whine? Please...
- Lasers are cool, EVERYONE likes big "pew pew laz0rs".
- Amarr ships are f'in ugly, in fact, they're almost as bad as the Minmatar ones.
So...
We want to shoot the cool lasers but we don't want to fly the butt ugly ships! Given that the ugly ships are the only ones with a bonus to the pretty pew pews, we see ourselves forced to cry a friggin river!
It really is that simple...

Are you actually dissing the Crusader? I mean, I can't fly interceptors worth a damn (I have the skillpoints, but I suck at flying things going faster than 3km/s), but I've seen them used in a lot of battles and in a battle with a Crusader vs another Inty or frigate my money is on the crusader.
IMHO things are quite peachy after the patch. Amarr now have battleships for every purpose (except solo pvp, but IMHO you're not supposed to solo in battleships) The Harbinger matches up well against other battlecruisers (and pretty much anything except battleships/commandships). The interceptors are nice. The HACs kick ass. etc...
There are how ever a few problems.
Omen&Maller feels like boats that you run level 2 missions in and then happily forget. They're not utter crap, but they're certainly not at the same level as the Thorax/Vexor/Rupture/Stabber/Caracal. The pilgrim. Compared to the Rapier and Falcon the pilgrim is just Meh. The curse is good, but it's insane how much difference the NOS/Neut range bonus does. I've been trying to find a decent Pilgrim fit on the test server, but if feels like what ever you're trying to do with its preformance over the Arbitrator/Anathema (depending on what you're trying to do with it) just isn't worth the price. Also, depending on how you look at it the Prophecy isn't all that, but then that goes for all the T1 BCs except the Brutix.
Overall the problem with Amarr can be described as "There are three good ships with medium lasers. The Zealot, the Harbinger and the Absolution." However, post-patch I really don't feel like I'm playing at a disadvantage anymore, 20%-ish more damage against omni-tanks is definitely noticable. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. As someone who flys mostly Amarr ships, I can say there is generally nothing wrong with most of them. Few things that are wrong are: The fitting requirements on some of the lasers (tachs, med beams etc) Our tech 1 frigs are pretty poor (punisher not so bad though) Tech 1 cruisers poor exept for Arbi. Pilgrim sucks
But God chose lasers as his tool of vengeance and destruction upon the heretics, and by gods will those heretics will burn under the wrath of EM damage. ....

Locator agent, go! You think I'm kidding.
Amarr ships are f'in gorgeous, with the possible (arguable) exception of the Harbinger, which makes up for it with damage out the arse.
I do wish Amarr ships got significantly more cap than they do now though. Even with the ship use bonus (I've said it before; halving laser cap use and giving us other bonuses would be pimp) they take an awful lot of cap... Making a decent fit with cap rechargers / CPRs is lol for PVP, the fittings on cap batteries (which are good on cruiser + below ships) are b0rked, and we have tiiiiny cargoholds for cap charges. Also we need a middle-teir medium pulse laser (FMPs are loldamage and HPL are lolfitting)
On the other hand, laser tracking is good, damage is pretty good, and we have (imho) the best resists on both tech1 and tech2 ships (although plugging the thermal hole IS mandatory due to everyone throwing thermal at us). __________________________________

i think its becasue amarrians are crappy pilots, you need to be caldari to fly ships effective.

no serioulsy, amarr needs high sp. you need a few lvl 5's to really be able to appreciate their ships. -------- Boost Amarr and I will conquer the Universe - you been warned |

IMHO the harbinger looks awesome. Like a spaceship version of a M-24 Hind Gunship.
But then considering that I think that the Apoc looks like a gargantuan shrimp I might not be the most reliable judge of aesthetics.
P.S: The sexiest ship in EVE is the Arbitrator (and it's T2 variants). Anyone that disses the Arbi deserves to be shot, podded and then podded again with only a basic clone. ______________________________________________ -You can never earn my respect, only lose it. I totally agree that Amarr-problems have been over-drawn radically in some respect.
However, the resist change was needed imho (nobody ever considered using EM ammo really :-P Now it is at least an option).
The only Amarrian ship which I still consider radically underpowered is the Omen :-/ It is the only (turret-based) dps t-1 cruiser Amarr have after all so it should be at least reasonably competitive.
All other amarr ships are fine imho (yes, even the maller and prophecy) -

There you have the only real problem with amarr ships (not that I wouldn't love explosive crystals) if the just had a real bonus then they'd be absolulely fine, I fly almost exclusively amarr and I have no complaints other than that .

Most of the people whining are completely incompetent pilots who are new to Amarr, and find out about the race's reputation and go to further it when it's no longer applicable.

With the boost, the Apoc is one of the most awesome BS in game. Harbinger has been the best or 2nd best Tier-2 BC since the introduction. Zealot is good, Sacrilege is very good. Absolution/Devoter/Guardian are good. Amarr recons suck! T1 below the Tier-2 BC suck for all races including Amarr! The rest of Amarr ships are about average (some worse, some better), which is good enough.
All races have ships that star, and some that don't. Amarr is no different.
Sounds good to me. I've personally seen tons of Amarr ships that I would like to pilot, if I wasn't so neck-deep in Gallente/Caldari skills already. Although I still prefer Gallente/Caldari for PvE, I honestly don't see anything wrong with Amarr in any other scenario. ---
