I'm sure everyone has had a moment like this, a moment where you gain a sudden understanding, a moment where all the puzzle pieces fit together and make you go "wow!".
Can you remember the moment that made you go "wow!" and got you seriously hooked on Eve?
Was it your first pvp experience? Your first fully completed trade run? The first time you ran a blockade? the first time you looked at corp. chat and realised "These guys are my mates and I trust them"?

Must have been about two weeks after I started and got my shiny new rifter fuly equipped from the corp I started in. When in trouble fighting rats in a belt in sec space this mighty huuuuuge thorax with a corpmate in it came to the rescue it had 250mm rails on it!!!!! God, the fireworks...that kinda triggered the piracy thing in me as well...

For me it would be the first time i tried to make someone pay a toll for passing through a jumpgate...
And the hunt which resulted from him not paying.
Before i tried something new (pirating), i was doing mining, trading anything legit. I even lead a small time corporation for a few months. After a while i felt i had tried everything and the game burned me out, i got bored and quit...
After a while i came back and decided to swing thing around completely and just hold up the first person i came across. It was something new that made me want to play again. A whole new universe opened up to me and now i find myself fighting on the other side of the fence...
Funny how that works...
Thats why i know that you can never judge anything untill you have tried everything, something more people in EVE should do imho.
Originally by: cashman It's time for Eris to get a clue. CCP should make a statement about this.
It's the exact same things as what Zombie did, you may not attack in "safe-areas" (empire/within sentry range) without loosing your ship.

After about a month of playing, someone told me about the square thing in the upper left corner, that lists all the stations and asteroidbelts. What a great moment that was.

When I was a little n00b in an Imicus mining and an Exqueror came in and started mining right where I was. I checked out the stats of the ship and owning one of those was my goal in life (til I learned better).
That and when my other character was flying his Tristan around protecting the miners of 'his' system from the NPC pirates. I kinda felt like I was doing something in the universe.

Edited by: Tibor Ferenc on 17/04/2004 16:45:25 Just after I started piracy back in the Federation of Assasin days when Vegeta lured a Mega and Zyd filled indy (with a worth of 30mill i belive) to a cul-de-sac system and we all layed into it with our frigs. I still have the guys name "Savek Tuili" or somthing like that.
That night as I went to bed I almost felt guilty thinking how long he must of mined for in a frig to get that much. The feeling did'nt last long

the Passari battle of m0o + Spectral Armada + SPVD VS. Cornexant, when at the end the forces of evil made the first battleship kill in EVE. (Scorpion, 1 of the 2 in Cornexant, probably one of the 20 in game.)

I was hooked pretty much from day 1.
But when I went on my corp organised a hunt and I took my first foray into 0.0 looking for some pvp action, that's when my Eve experience really opened up!
The satisfaction of taking on a gate camper and having him sprint off. The thrill of the chase as we all followed him to finish the job. The fear as we realise he's teamed up with his bigger mates to take us on. Then the exhileration of getting your first kill and podding the guy for good measure
I may have been a carebear miner once, but i'm cured of that now

First time was when our corp claimed a system in beta.. went something like
"get out of our system" "no" "now you die.."
and he died! _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

Edited by: Mitchello on 17/04/2004 17:54:10 Mining in a frigate with the all mighty Rifter defending me from PC and NPCs and sadly at that time the rifter was bad ass...accept for the m0o who had cruisers and would kick concords ass :D fun times
that was fun, gritty and everyone on the same page. I got double shivers when i made my first full set of everything for my very first battleship months and months ago. THe guns and ammo and mods and drones...I LUV building junk and using it...cuz I'm a freak...

The very first time I shot around with missiles. I was so amazed that I shot missiles at everything I could find, roids, other people in the belt I was in. When I warped to the next gate I saw a freighter there, locked him, slapped him around with my missiles and sticked my pogo outta the window - just to have it grilled by the sentry guns.
30 minutes later I had a new Kestrel again and proceeded spamming, this time npc rats.

Hell yes, my goal was to own a Vexor from day one. I thought I'd never get there... Oh my. (I have only owned a Vexor on TQ for a few days though, hunted some NPCs then I sold it... Months after I got my battleship).
On topic, from the moment I got a beta mail in my inbox, to be honest.

The time I went "wow" was when InfinCorp discovered the huge Omber rock in EC-P8R. We brought out all 2 of our blackbirds and multiple frigates and killed the NPCs while we mined it. THat thing must ahve been the size of a modern rock of scordite. Good times ... -----------------------------------------------

well i was about 2 hours old. And not playing since beta i forgot about the Sec Status aspect. Well i gated into HED-GP to see a really cool ship (raven) 6 seconds later I awake in my newb sector and I fell in love with that ship.
BTW that raven was a m0o...yeah they got me addicted to the game from that moment on

Sadly and ironically, it was when I first went to a school of applied knowledge station and looked at all the skills for sale and thought "omg I have to be able to do all that stuff!".
Similar moment a few weeks after getting back into the game (I played beta but missed the first 5 weeks or so of retail due to a planetside addiction) when a mate in a Megathron came to show off to my thne corp as we were all mining in Moa's. I had the predictable reaction when that thing appeared next to my Moa and triggered it's tactical shields... "WTF is THAT and WTF are THEY!". Never went on to fly a Mega though!

When I witnessed the power of a corp mining together with a dedicated hauler in an augoror. Back in beta.
I've always been a teamplayer, wether in FPS or football (soccer) and this appealed to me greatly.

Still waiting myself, today I journeyed to the eve gate, sure there were some wow moments (I were annoyed I couldn't reach the gate, even with afterburners, and have my ship torn apart, tho), of particular note was the first hollow asteroid I've ever seen, as well as the first metal ring structure I've seen .
Yesterday I started r & d for the first time, hasn't been very eventfull.
So, I'm still waiting, the things I've tried so far have been, mining (eugh...), npc hunting, TRADING! (its slow, but okayish, especially considering I found a really good trade route between two stations in one system, I milked it dry, still, it wasn't worth anywhere near as much as some people claim to make in a day) and agent missions (which make me travel far too much ).
Never tried pvp, so maybe its still to come, I expect it is.

I was very bored of mining and left the game for 4 months - came back and found that my corp had turned into a semi pirate corp - the first time I went into a proper battle (4 of us v about 12 of them) my heart was going like a train and the adrenaline was flowing so much. I have never experienced anything like it in a game before or since....

When I learned about all the map settings and thought, wow, I can see all that and never have to undock, hey, I can even send an alt out there for what little exploring there's left to do.
I've been hooked on blue pills ever since.

The first time undocked with my self-mined Navitas from the federal Navy assembly station in Scolluzer. That was beta, when getting your first real ship was an struggle. Gawd that ship looked good. Spend hours just flying around and looking at the ship. There and then I decided to grow old in EVE. Never stopped playing since..

Back in Beta 4 when I first started, the first time I looked at the map and saw all the choke points and cul-de-sacs and what-not that the 'stellar topograghy' makes. I thought "damn, this could be like a kick ass wargame" +++
It's called "low security space" for a reason. |

Flying around Obe one night, my CEO got all excited and told me to go check out this cruiser at a stargate! All the blinking lights had him mesmerized!
Needless to say, it was Gauss of m0o and he quickly killed my CEO's poor rifter. I was quite hooked then.
Good times will always be remembered. Sleep well, old friends. |
