i picked up a 2 year old polo for six grand in december of last year .... its cheap as chips in comparison to other cars to run and it keeps its value reasonably well in comparison to other cars in its class ..i will definatly be thinking about getting another one at a later stage but prolly another polo with a bit of a bigger engine cos it stuggles a little on the motorways but is nippy a hell in town .i dont really need a bigger car as i only use mine for getting to work and back and my missus drives a civic gti ..but she never lets me drive it ..but on the whole if your a young driver then i would just go for a small car to keep your premiums down for the 1st couple of years ....my 2 bob

Never again will I buy a black car
You wash it, drive 2 miles on a dry day, park, look at it and it's like it was never cleaned __________________

Hmm.. 1969 Plymouth Sport Satellite, 69 Dodge Charger or a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS. Sure the fuel economy is dreadful, combined with the whole ú1.05 a litre deal in the UK, but you can't beat the fact the car you drive is actually made out of metal and not Crumple-tastic fibreglass and plastic composite. That and they sound, look and feel awesome.
Who would want to spend ú10,000 on a car designed to break anyway?
If you were being sensible then probably a new Volvo. They're famed for being safe as all hell, with decent performance and all the mod-cons most people come to expect in cars now. Air Conditioning, A stereo rivalling a cinema system, Electronic / Automatic everything, fly-by-wire accelerator, fly-by-wire brakes and fly-by-wire steering.. everything! You can't go wrong with a car that technically drives itself.

Not sure of pricing in the UK vs Australia, but have a look at the Honda Jazz. We've had one for about five years now and the thing just never breaks down (OK, my brother did manage to rip the engine off its mounting bolts, but that was totally not the car's fault).
Heaps of inside room for a largish-small car, my Dad and I are both big guys and we find it to be much roomier inside than sedans like the Falcon/Commodore (or whatever Ford/GM/Holden sell in Britain). Nice ride around town and on the highway, the CVT version makes for very smooth driving. ----------

You made the right decision. Saab 9-3 = Vauxhall Vectra under the skin...
Volvo S40... was built alongside Mitsubishi Charisma (same car basically)
A3's are a bit common I think...
I'll agree with the IS200 though.
