Give ordinary freighters a mid-slot and implement a module called cargospace converter (make it expensive, in line with other specialist cap modules). It converts the freighters cargohold into a ship maintainence hangar. Option 2 would be a rigslot on the regular freighter (with 1 calibration point to prevent other rigs than specific ones) and a special rig for the purpose (if you need to make it more permanent).
I'd take specialst ships, like isotope haulers, stront haulers, ship haulers, mineralhaulers etc etc before interbus anyday... so signed.
There's only one sig that matters... and that's Radius. |

Edited by: James Lyrus on 18/04/2008 18:47:14 Would like to see this.
I typically have about 5 active ships on the go at once - a 'gang pvp' ship, a 'suicidal' pvp ship, a battleship (sometimes two, if I have sniper and close range), a PvE ship, a hauler, and a barge or two. Maybe a salvage destroyer, or some kind of supporting ships for my alt, too.
They're all either rigged, insured or both.
Doesn't have to have fighters, doesn't have to tank, it doesn't have to jump drive.
What I envisage is a 'tier 2 freighter', which is basically a tier 1 converted to ship maintenance bay. And a bit of corp hangar array, so I can hold cans with 'spare mods'. (would prefer tier 2 to tech 2, although the latter I suppose does mean no new model is needed.)
Doesn't even have to be accessible in space, although I think that would be nice, and not all that big a deal.
Just a way so I can move my collection of ships, and those of my corp, rigs insurance and all.
If only as far as lowsec, to slap 'em on a carrier. -- Crane needs more grid 249km locking? |

Tarrar: just from this topic you seem rather annoying and attention whoring, plus your grammar makes my eyes bleed.
I'm still signing though since I like the idea, I'll also toss in my two cents:
make it a smallish ship (maybe cruiser sized) but with powerful engines and a small body (imagine a Celestis with massive engines). Out the back would be a long narrow rod, (possibly approaching carrier length), on this rod are tethers that the ships link to, more advanced versions of the ship would have longer rods allowing more ships to tie up.
In order to link the ships to the tugboat you right click on them in the station and then press "tether" this only works if you have the tugboat and the rest of the time will say "sorry we can't do this cause no tugboat" Then on the tugboat it shows the ship attached to the rod. In order to fit a ship there has to be enough room on the rod, to do this each ship would be given a length that indicates how long it is at the longest point. this space is then subtracted from the total available space on the rod. meaning you might be able to fit 30 shuttles but only 3 batteships, or 7 ravens but only 3 hyperions, it all depends on length. |

I really like the idea. I would like a long ship like the Iteron V with docking ports, like those on BT Jumpships, along it's hull. bigger ships would need several ports to carried safely. They could come in to sizes one industrial sized for mission runners who just want to move to their next agent. And a freighter sized one for corps with a SMA. For skill requirements. I would say that the smaller one shouldn't take long to get. Maybe racial Industrial 3, Mechanic 4, Engineering 5 and Navigation 4.
Ships can only dock with an external port if they are not active (no pilot inside)and there cargo hold is empty. Also the docking can only be done at a station (Npc owned or POS). |

Towing a ship? In space? absurd idea! Warping with two ships connected by a chain. Imagine the forces involved when you accelerate up to 1400x the speed of light |

the main problem i see with this is the external docking, when you think about system resources if you are hauling 30 shuttles this way then the game would have to generate 30 shuttles on the rod behind you, this is just from a logistics standpoint, but i'm thinking that generating that many extra ships for a single player would have to start to tax the system. Also i'm wondering if they are tethered then will people be able to come and try to steal them since they are basically just floating about? |

Yes, because no players at all would complain about one race being able to fit far more of their own ships in a hauler compared to everyone else ... Have you been awake at all for the complaining about the battleships > 500k m3 (two Gallente, one Minmatar iirc), therefore keeping two of them from being put in a carrier?
I personally would love a hisec hauler for rigged ships, but it goes in the category of neat things CCP probably won't implement ... |

im sure if one dev read this topic they probly would like the idea and start crunching out a ship plan but the likelyness of that is very unlikely as i am yet to see a reply on any of the threads in this section or even a verification a single idea was even reviewed

I love this. It could simply be a tier 2 freighter which has little or no cargo space. Instead it has a gigantic ship maintenance bay.
Great idea.

devs usually dont post here... but the good ideas all get hotlinked to the appropriate people and they read.

after reading the first few of the OP posts i have come to this conclusion:
instead of making some useless ship, make a skill that teaches people such as this poor soul some GRAMMER... it isnt that difficult to use things such ',' and '.', it really isnt that much to ask for
